Chapter 788

However, the smirk at the corner of his mouth only deepened.

Hull scooped her up effortlessly and strode straight toward the bathroom, her legs wrapped around his waist. As they went, he leaned in, voice low and teasing right by her ear: "So, you like that?"

There was no mistaking the meaning in his tone.

    Susanna: "...

Her cheeks flushed a bright, telltale red.

How had she not realized before? The guy always looked so put-together, all cool

and aloof on the outside, like some untouchable saint.

In reality, he was a total tease-a wolf in sheep''s clothing.

And when he talked dirty, he was the king of innuendo.

"I''ll shower by myself. Go on, get out," she insisted as soon as they got inside, not letting him get anywhere near her.

Hull raised an eyebrow. "Still got the energy to wash up? Guess I didn''t try hard enough."

    Susanna: "!!!"

Before she could even gasp, he pulled her back for round two right there in the shower.

This time, Susanna actually passed out.

    Morning sunlight streamed in.

It cast a golden glow over the row of wooden beach houses lining the sand. The sea sparkled under the light, so calm it seemed to settle your soul.

Under the striped awning, Hull looked like he was in the best mood in months.

He sipped from his mug-ck coffee, strong and listened as Ss filled him in onst night''s drama: Brett had been loudly swearing he was going to see Ronald.

Hull just shrugged. "Let him go."

Ss, seeing how totally unbothered Hull was, finally rxed. "Are we really just after what he''s offering?"

Hull''s smile turned sly, nothing like the one he wore earlier. "We''re after more than just that, you know."

"You think the Old Man knows?" Ss asked, meaning, if Brett was heading to Ronald, maybe they should give the boss a heads-up.

Hull just chuckled. "He won''t see him."

    Ss: "..."

So Brett had stomped off in a furyst night, but if Ronald refused to meet, he''d

be back, tail between his legs, soon enough.

Susanna had been put through the wringer.

She slept like the dead, not waking until nearly nine in the morning.

    Hull brought in

breakfast scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and a ss of fresh orange juice but she was still half-asleep, buried under the covers.

He set the tray down quietly, nning to leave her be.

But just as he turned to go, he heard her mumble, still lost in a dream: "Meanie... so mean..."

Hull nced back, an amused glint in his eyes.

Just then, Susanna rolled over-and with a thud, toppled right off the bed.

Hull tried to catch her, but he was too far away.

Susannanded on the floor with a soft "oof," sitting up, dazed. “Ouch... that hurt..."

She''d bonked her head on the nightstand, wincing in pain.

Hull strode over in two steps and scooped her up off the carpet.

His usual cool tone was edged with just a hint of fond exasperation: "How do you even fall out of bed while sleeping?"

    Honestly, he was amazed.

Though,e to think of it, even back at theke house, she''d always been a restless sleeper-always ending up on the floor.

Susanna, still pouting and holding her sore forehead, gave him a look full of usation. "You''re mean to me."

Her big, watery eyes were ridiculously pitiful.

Her head still ached, but the shock had finally chased away her sleepiness.

Hull sat her down on the sofa.

Her pajama top had fallen open, revealing a lot more than just her sleep-flushed skin. Her early-morning glow was... distracting.

    Hull swallowed, Adam''s apple bobbing.

Susanna caught the heat in his gaze and followed it down, then squeaked and clutched her shirt closed.

    "You-you perv!"

Hull just smirked. "You undressed yourself this time."

    Susanna spluttered, "I did not!"

God, there was no arguing with him.

He looked like an angel who''d fallen

to earth, but once he''d tasted the forbidden fruit, he showed no mercy-and she was definitely paying the price for it.

His needs were... considerable. And if they weren''t always a perfect match, well-best not to think. about it. Her poor body couldn''t take much

    more.  take
