《Serpent Sarcophagus》 Chapter 1 The Dream About a Black Serpent Chapter 1 The Dream About a ck Serpent On the day of my birth, my parents were digging our ancestral grave in our old vige to move it somewhere else. When the sarcophagus was open, they found a ck serpent lying inside. It was about the width of a bowl, wearing a ck cover on its head and a pale skin indicating it almost finished shedding. Given its ck color and pale skin, the geomancy master told my father that the serpent was going to turn into a flood dragon. But then my father grabbed the serpent, hoping to take it home and make medical liquor out of it. Unfortunately, that beast bit my father though it was weak after shedding. Bursting with anger, he killed it immediately. When my mother heard of the news, she hurried to find him some medication in the mountains. On the way over a hill, she stumbled over a snake the size of a belt, which triggered a premature delivery. When I was born, all snakes circled around the house with their heads erected halfway and they were hissing towards my mother. The noise was like an angry snarl, or ording to someone, they were paying their respect. Witnessing this abnormal scene, the geomancy master who was helping us move our ancestral grave fled away immediately, not even charging us a thing. He even moved out of our town because he didn¡¯t want to be involved in troubles. A tempest hit us that night. A sh of lightning stuck the new spot where we had chosen for burying our ancestors, and the body of the serpent killed by my father disappeared as well. What followed was my father¡¯sa for over three days, and he was talking gibberish. My grandma had to seek the favor of a famous Channeler who lived nearby. After the Channeler channeled the Spirit (an activity when the psychic channeled the dead spirit from the eternal realm so that the living couldmunicate with their deceased ancestors), she ruled out my father as the center of the problem. She said it was because of something from me. Then, she gave my grandma a snake-headed jade and had her give me it after I came of age. Then they sucked the poison out of my father¡¯s body with sticky rice. My father woke up that night. But that Channeler was not so lucky. On her way back home, she was bitten by snakes to death. The cause of her death was not snake poison, but the extreme pain from the bites. There were rumors in the vige that my father had been revenged after he killed that serpent which was about to turn into a flood dragon. They also said that it was a bad omen when I was marked by snakes since my birth. My father never cared about any of these stories. However, we had to move to the town because my mother was gued by health problems due to the premature delivery. My father still dealt with the snake liquor business. A serpent had been haunting my dreams for as long as I could remember. It was a giant snake with ck scales covered all over its body. That serpent was always in my dreams no matter what I had dreamed of. It just stared at me with that silent look, whether it was hanging, its head held high, or just coiling up. What was even more bizarre was that every next morning after my dream, there would always be snakes coiling up in front of our door. Sometimes there were just a few and sometimes there were awful lots of snakes. But they would all end up being my father¡¯s material to make liquor. For so many times had I told my parents about my dreams, and so many times had they disyed impatience while yelling at me, ¡°Aurora, dreaming of snake is a good thing for a girl. It either means you will make a fortune recently, or you will deliver a boy in the future. Either way, it is nothing bad. Don¡¯t make a fuss about it.¡± However, images of that serpent in my dream were getting clearer as I grew. Sometimes when I woke up in the middle of the night, I could almost feel its presence. When I moved my fingers in bed, I could almost touch the cold, rough scales. Maybe because I had dreamed of it so many times that I had grown ustomed to it so I was not scared by it. Sometimes in my sleep, I would drop a few words with that serpent. Words like, what do you want? What are you doing? Why do you keep showing up in my dream? But that serpent spared no answer for me and just stared at me silently. On the night of my 18th birthday, the serpent no longer stared at me from a distance. Instead, it crawled slowly toward me. I wanted to escape by instinct, but I couldn¡¯t move an inch in my sleep. And that serpent found itself near me. I was terrified and sweating as I was trying to wake up. ¡°What¡¯s on your mind? You looked scared.¡± The ck serpent crawled to my feet and gradually assumed the shape of a man wearing a ck robe. His face was chiseled, his eyes as dark and shiny as the stars in the sky, his thin lips slightly pursed. I froze at the sight of this face. He was lying beside me as if his body was soft and boneless, with his eyes staring at me, ¡°Ask John Dragon (my father) to move all his snake liquor out tomorrow! The serpent ising! You cannot leave a single snake at home!¡± His tone was steady and fast. The way that he spoke seemed to suggest some of his concerns. He looked around and said, ¡°You Mustn¡¯t leave a single one at home!¡± Then he transformed into the ck serpent again with sadness shing across his eyes, ¡°Aurora, I can¡¯t protect you out there, you have to be careful!¡± When that ck serpent moved away, I suddenly woke up from my dream. The house was awfully quiet. I stared at the ceiling, not daring to turn my head around. I moved my fingers towards the direction where I had spotted the serpent in my dream. I felt relieved when I realized it was just my nket. My father was snoring terribly in the next room. I went downstairs to fetch some water with sweat all over my face. We lived in a three-story building constructed by my parents. The first floor was used as the shop, the second floor saved for us to live in. And the third floor was rented to a family of four who ran some small business in town. The water dispenser was ced at the corner of the stairs. I was still thinking about what had happened in my sleep! The ck serpent changed into a human form and told me that I must ask my father to throw all the snake liquor tomorrow. It seemed that something wasing, and he was so afraid of itsing. I just grabbed the ss and started to drink, without even turning the light on because I was too thirsty. The water dispenser was growling with water. There seemed to be other voices in the shop. And it sounded like someone was tapping on the ss, to give it a tremor with a snap. I held the ss of water, and was thinking about what the ck serpent had said in my dream. My body was shaking because of fear. With the ss still in my hand, and I didn¡¯t know what was pusing me, but I was walking toward the shelf where my father used to keep his products. There were two big shelves up against the wall in the shop. In them were bottles of liquor made of N?velDrama.Org ? content. various kinds of snakes, all soaked in alcohol with various crude drugs. Those snakes, which usually lied at the bottom, seemed to havee back to life with the light illuminating the amber liquor. The spotted, variously colored snakes swam slowly near the bottle. Some of them even hit the ss with their tails, making a sound of purling. I was so frightened that I held my ss even more tightly. In that same moment, all snakes turned their body around and raised their head, forcing their way to the bottle sses. Their eyes slowly opened and red at me through the sses while their tails were beating it in a rather odd pattern. The green light was flickering in the eyes of those snakes. I felt my head spinning due to the light. The sounds of beating the bottle sses gathered together, and they all turned to a different voice of the hiss, as if they were calling my name repeatedly, ¡°Aurora, Aurora.¡± I thought about running. But their green eyes stared at me when I turned around, as if I was surrounded by walls made of those bottles of snake liquor, and each of them stared at me creepily, hissing. It seemed a voice was roaring in my head, and everything seemed so swirling. Then the man in a ck robe suddenly appeared next to me. The ck robe with wide sleeves stretched out, covering my head, ¡°Don¡¯t look at it.¡± After that, I fainted, and then a sprinkle of light sprang into my eyes, and I heard water sshed all over. The ck-robed man still stood beside me. His body was shaky, his face wan, and his thin lips, though looked nice, went pale. He said to me in a solemn tone, ¡°You have to send all the snakes away by tomorrow! Remember that you mustn¡¯t keep any of them in this house. I can onlye out once, and I can¡¯t¡¡± Before his words were finished, his shape gradually faded before he disappearedpletely. The shop seemed to have be awfully quiet. On the two shelves, all the snakes in the snake bottles seemed dead, with their body turning upside down, and their bellies up, floating in the amber liquor. Snake liquor was best with live snakes. My father was always most proud of his snake liquor, for, in every bottle of his snake liquor, the snakes were alive. But now, all of them were deceased. Holding the water ss, I quickly ran upstairs. I woke my father up while he was sleeping, snoring terribly. ¡°Aurora, what the fuss is about? Don¡¯t you have to go to school tomorrow?!¡± My dad was a little angry when he mumbled to me, ¡°If your mother doesn¡¯t get enough sleep and loses the mahjong game tomorrow, see if you will get away from a good whip!¡± ¡°Snakes are all dead,¡± I yelled. But still, I concealed the story with the ck snake, ¡°I went downstairs to get some water, and then I saw that the snakes soaked in the liquor have turned their bellies up.¡± My dad became sober immediately, and he couldn¡¯t mind if he would wake my mother or not. In a hurry, he went downstairs without wearing his shoes, and then downstairs came my dad''s frustrated voice. Fears were lingering in my mind about the snake liquor. I saw my dad around the corner, ¡°Let¡¯s just throw them away before anyone knows.¡± ¡°You know nothing. These are money!¡± My dad was so angry that he was pulling his hair and waved at me, ¡°Okay, fine. Now you stay away from this and go sleep! I will deal with it!¡± ¡°If people find out that our snake liquor is made of a dead snake, it will ruin our brand! Let''s dispose of them all today, shall we? ¡°Thinking of the word of that ck snake, I still didn''t give up. My dad nodded impatiently because he valued his brand of this live snake liquor most. At noon, I called my mother from school especially, and my dad seemed to be at her side, promoting his snake liquor to customers. My mother seemed to be ying cards on her mobile phone, while she said impatiently, ¡°It''s sold out. Your father has been doing this business for years, selling dozens of bottles of snake liquor is just a doddle to him! There are even not enough of them for old customers!¡± At dinner, I made a deliberate excuse that I forgot to bring a book when I actually took a taxi back home to check the matter out. I felt a certain admiration for my dad after I was certain that all the liquor on the shelves was gone. My dad picked me up after the evening lessons. He told me proudly, ¡°Your dad has sold out all the snake liquor today. We¡¯ve gained a great sum of money. We will go traveling after you havepleted your college entrance exam. Get it done nicely! And earn your father some honor!¡± Seeing that there was no more bottle of snake liquor on the shelves in the shop, I sighed with great relief. It seemed that my mother might have collected all the money today and went to y mahjong. After sending me home, my father went out to feast with his friends. I was alone at home. After a shower, I returned to my room, thinking of dreaming about that ck snake again. I must insist on asking him for an exnation. Then I seemed to hear a sound of water sshing on the third floor before I bolted the door. It sounded like the snake tails tapping on ss bottles thest night. Chapter 2 They Are in Hot Pursuit Chapter 2 They Are in Hot Pursuit Listening to the crackling upstairs, I went up uneasily with something upying my mind, and I knocked on the door. It was David, the renter¡¯s son who opened the door. The moment the door was open, a smell of alcohol spread out. Instantaneously, I sensed something ominous. David looked at me with his drunk eyes, ¡°Oh, Aurora, what do you want?¡± There was something wrong with his eyes. I tried to look away in order to gain some sight of the inside. ¡°Are you drinking the snake liquor?¡± ¡°Sure, why don¡¯t youe to join us for a cup or two? Your father was selling it cheap today. Drink some, won¡¯t you?¡± David smirked and looked down my neck. I was ufortable with the way he looked at me. I took a shower just now, so I grasped the bath towel on me and said, ¡°my father just told me that the snake died in the bottle. Maybe I can offer you the double price to buy it back, all right?¡± The sound of the snake''s tail against the ss was even louder when I stood at his door. I didn¡¯t know whether it was an illusion. ¡°But it isn''t dead! See, it''s quite alive!¡± David grinned, pulled the door open, and stretched out his hand to pull me. ¡°Come on in and have a drink.¡± The door opened, I saw a big ss bottle on the tea table in the living room, which was exactly the kind of my father''s snake liquor. Inside, a thick snake was swimming slowly with its eyes open. David''s father, Fletcher Russell, seemed to be very happy, holding his chopsticks and poking at the ss to keep the snake swimming. But no matter how the snake swam, its head was always facing me. Lights in the living room were reflected on the ss, making the snake¡¯s eyes flickering with the light of what seems to be hatred that was cast on me. I was scared. So, I took a step back and swallowed air, ¡°I will double the offer, please let me buy it back!¡± ¡°I won¡¯t sell! Look, they''re alive, they''re all alive!¡± As David spoke, it seemed as if his tongue had grown too big and kept sticking it out, and his wide tongue seemed to have split at the front. With his tongue stuck out, his head was slowly stretching forward. Though his shoulder did not move, his neck was able to lean forward in a weird way. In the misted eyes of his, the pupil seemed to be shrinking. The smirk on his face became eerier and eerier, with malicious attempts hidden inside. I turned my head to observe that snake soaked in the liquor. It snapped the bottle more fiercely with its tails when it kept swimming inside the liquor flicking its tongue, as if it had been annoyed by Fletcher¡¯s constant poking. Across the distance from where I was standing, there shouldn¡¯t be any sound noticeable to the ear. But strangely, I heard a hissing voice calling, ¡°Aurora, Aurora.¡± I flinched away for I was apparently frightened. Regardless of this bottle of snake liquor, I hurried downstairs. ¡°All alive, all alive, Aurora, Hey, hey, hey...¡± David wasughing oddly behind me. Staying at home proved to be a challenge after I got downstairs, so I packed up my clothes for N?velDrama.Org ? content. tomorrow, took my schoolbag, and called my father, saying that I had some difficulties with my homework and would go to Pearl Chang''s home to spend the night. ¡°Go, I will pick you up tomorrow morning, sending you and Pearl to school together.¡± My dad was over there drinking with his friends and bragging. And he said loudly, ¡°Listen! This is my daughter, see what a good girl she is! I never need to worry about her grade. My only daughter as she is, she is greater than most of the boys.¡± After hanging up the phone, I went directly downstairs and took a motorcycle to Pearl Chang''s home. When I was waiting for the bus, I felt vague that something was watching me from upstairs. Turning around, I spotted David standing on the balcony of the third floor, stripped to the waist. His body bent over the bar that was shielding the balcony. His upper body was leaning down, a pose that made him easy to fall off even just by small negligence. The motorbike driver followed my gaze, and he shouted immediately upward, ¡°Hey, bro, mind if you fall down!¡± David recoiled instantly with a quick reaction. After I was away, David was still standing on the balcony, looking at me, the dim light of the road reflected in his eyes, like a faint green light. On the motorcycle, I phoned Pearl, who was on good terms with me. She was waiting for me at the front door. Pearl''s father was a Taoist priest who lived at home. He built a small Taoist temple in the town. He usually made money by conducting religious rites for people. And he would also host some dharma activities on the first and fifteenth of the lunar calendar. Her home sat on the upper story of the Taoist temple. Upon my entrance into the temple, I heard a rustle in the grass nearby, and the ornamental green nts bent to both sides. ¡°Maybe just some wild cats.¡± Pearl took a look and pulled me in. As soon as I stepped into the temple, Master Chang, while having an evening study, shouted at me in a low voice, ¡°Aurora!¡± Being startled by him, I flinched. He, however, immediately grabbed that one liter of rice from the incense table, then ssh towards me. It was stinging when the cold grain of rice hit my face straight. I shuddered. ¡°Dad!¡± Pearl Chang cried out loud. After the shuddering, I felt a great burden had been relieved. Earlier, the ride was ufortable as if I had worn several heavy coats on the way over here, and now they were stripped off as the rice hit me. ¡°Aurora.¡± Master Chang came over with a brazier and looked at my back. ¡°Is something wrong with your house? Why are so many of those snakes following you?¡± Following his eyes to my back, I saw the rice spilling all over the ground, but in the middle of it, a few thin snake-shaped lines were swimming from my heels to the outside, as if something on my body were flying away through the rice line back to somewhere. ¡°Your house¡¡± Master Chang shook his head, burning some paper in the brazier, ¡°you jump to cross the burning fire first!¡± When I stepped over the fire, the paper that was burning inside suddenly rolled up with a crackle, I seemed to have heard a hissing sound. Some of the paper even curled around me while still burning, sizzling. Only after I crossed the brazier that the paper slowly turned to ashes. Master Chang squinted at me and said, ¡°All right, the problem is fixed. You can sleep with my daughter tonight.¡± ¡°Thank you, Master Chang!¡± I was slightly relieved to hear that it was all over. Pearl realized something as well. She looked at Master Chang and asked, ¡°Dad, is everything okay with Aurora?¡± ¡°I will stay up down here tonight. You girls go to sleep.¡± Master Chang frowned seriously and looked at me, as if he was about to say something, but then nothing. I didn¡¯t dare to think much, so I went upstairs with Pearl. There was always either a peach-wood sword hanging on the wall, or some other evil-proof articles ced in her house, which made me felt quite relieved. Pearl was the only one who knew about the ck snake in my dream. As a Taoist priest¡¯s daughter, she never doubted it. I told her what had happenedst night. Sheforted me, ¡°The ck snake is still protecting you. Your father sold all the snake liquor, but there¡¯s one left in your house which was bought by your renter. Anyway, you have nothing to worry about! My father will protect you!¡± After finishing our homework, we crowded into her bed to sleep. Pearl fell into a deep sleep not long after lying on the bed. My head was stuffed with all kinds of bizarre stuff, like that soaked snake was hissing towards me. When it finally came to the small hours, I fell asleep tiredly. The ck snake immediately crawled over. This time it directly took the form of a human and looked at me. He appeared weak. ¡°Aurora, he''s very angry now. You must go back to your house as soon as possible and find the ck Mamba Bracelet. Then you must dig out the Sarcophagus of your ancestor which hatched the serpent, find the serpent''s body and ce it under the sun for at least seven days.¡± It seemed that he was looking around for something while talking to me, ¡°He''sing.¡± Then it turned into a ck snake again, quickly coiled around me, keeping me in the middle for protection. ¡°You can rest tonight, I will guard you. Tomorrow you must go back to fetch the ck mamba jade!¡± I actually obeyed his word. I didn¡¯t know whether it was because I had grown familiar with him through those years, or it was for the fact that I was really tired. Seemingly something was growling in my ears while I was dreaming. By close examination, there was the sound of hissing as well. Early in the morning, I was awakened by the rm. Pearl was searching for a toothbrush for me. A whileter, Master Chang knocked on the door, ¡°Aurora.¡± It was merely after one night, and Master Chang¡¯s life force seemed to have been drained, with a peach-wood sword in his hand. He looked at me through the upper door and said, ¡°I can''t control this beast. Go home and ask your father if he has ever offended any powerful snake! I did my bestst night. You must do something about it as soon as possible.¡± Once he finished his sentence, Master Chang fell straightly to the ground. Pearl supported him up. She found a lot of snake-bite wounds on his body, and there was a strangling mark on his hand as well. ¡°Let¡¯s get to the hospital.¡± I couldn¡¯t think much but to call the ambnce in a hurry. When Pearl and I assisted Master Chang down the stairs, we saw many snake corpses lying on the ground in disarray. Pearl looked at me solemnly, and said, ¡°Aurora, my dad really tried his best. You should go now! Go back to your home and get it fixed your own way!¡± The ambnce arrived shortly afterward for it was in the early hour of the day. The paramedics were startled to see the dead snakes lying on the ground. Pearl and I put Master Chang into the ambnce. When I was about to call my father, he called first. His voice sounded so serious. ¡°Aurora, I can''t go pick you up. Something bad happened at home. Upstairs, David''s wife suddenly died. You go to school with Pearl and stay at her house for a few days.¡± Chapter 3 I Am Stowy Chapter 3 I Am Stowy The ambnce drove away. Looking at those snakes lying on the ground, I was a bit disconcerted after hearing my father¡¯s words that I had to stay in Pearl¡¯s ce for a few days. Seeing the snake bodies on the ground, the cleaner hurriedly pped her hands together, turned towards the small Taoist temple of Chang¡¯s and murmured something. But her eyes were staring at me with curiosity. It wasn¡¯t appropriate for me to stay there for long either. So, I took a taxi back, and applied for a leave of absence from my homeroom teacher. When I got home, the door was still cordoned off, my mom and dad were standing in front of the door in pajamas. Surrounded by a swarm of people, my dad was giving a statement to the cops while my mom aside kept exining the details. Aunt Luth, who owned a noodles shop next door, giggled when she saw me, ¡°Aurora, you were not homest night, weren¡¯t you? It''s a good thing you didn''t sleep at home. Tut, David''s wife, who lived upstairs, got entangled with the snake from your father''s snake liquor.¡± ¡°What does it mean, entangled with a snake?¡± Hearing about her mentioning the snake liquor, I didn¡¯t feel good about it. I kept thinking about David¡¯s abnormal lookst night. A kind of strange and curious expression emerged on Aunt Luth¡¯s face. Her eyes seemed to have been squeezed together like she was going to say something but didn¡¯t dare to. A few idlers who liked to wander off the streets were among the crowds. One of them said, ¡°It means being shagged by the snake. I heard that the snake was still inside her private parts when Fletcher found it this morning. Fletcher pulled the snake out. Shame! That was her father-inw!¡± ¡°It is really unusual! We all heard that living snakes entangle people, but who would think that this snake, which was soaked in liquor, could do that as well!¡± With a strange expression on her face, Aunt Luth said, ¡°That David¡¯s behavior was also abnormal. His wife died, but he straightly ran off with the snake. Well, now everyone suspects that he did it on purpose.¡± ¡°And the snake escaped?¡± I just felt chilly. Aunt Luth got encouraged at once and was ready to borate more. My mother realized I was back, when she saw me in the crowd. She snapped at Aunt Luth, ¡°Don¡¯t tell the kid such a horrible thing!¡± Aunt Luth smiled apologetically, calling the crowds to eat noodles at her shop. My mother quickly pulled me aside, ¡°Why do youe back? The ce is going to be ill-boding as someone died here! You should keep away from such things that will bring bad luck, for you will have the college entrance exam soon. You can live in Master Chang¡¯s ce. Ask him to draw an Amulet for you to get rid of your bad luck.¡± She took out her phone. ¡°I will transfer some money to you, you can live in Pearl¡¯s home for a few days, buy them some fruits, small gifts and such. y smart! Help them do some chores. Wash your own clothes! Don''t be aszy as you are at home, yes?¡± She was quite generous this time and gave me one thousand. Then she waved at the motorcycle driver who was there observing the scene and asked him to send me to school, ¡°Go to school first. I will pick up you and Pearl in the evening and fetch you some clothes.¡± ¡°Mom,¡± I grasped my mother''s hand tightly, asked in a low voice, ¡°Is there a snake-shaped jade in our family?¡± My mother froze at my words, and she threw me a heavy nce, ¡°how do you know?¡± ¡°Last night outside Master Chang''s house, there were a lot of snakes. Master Chang got bitten and was sent to the hospital. The snakes were following me.¡± I gripped my mother''s hand. And I said quietly, ¡°The ck snake in my dream showed up. He told me that I had to get the ck mamba jade bracelet and find the sarcophagus where the snake body was hidden.¡± My mother was shaking, and her eyes seemed to be popping out. ¡°I heard a woman died in your house upstairs, and was killed by a snake in a nasty way, yes?¡± The motorcycle driver came near and asked curiously. ¡°Go away!¡± My mother''s face fell, as she shouted at him, ¡°Show some respect for the deceased!¡± For the moment, there was no way for me to enter our apartment. Mother took me to the nearby milk- tea shop, whose owner was in the crowds watching the bustle. There was no one in that shop. Just before my mother was about to say something, Fletcher''s wife entered the shop, who was shouting and demanding my family to pay for their daughter-inw¡¯s life. ¡°Go home to ask your grandma. She knows much more about this matter than everyone! I and your father wille back after we make this thing done.¡± My mother protected me while cleaning a path to send me out. She pushed me to the intersection, ¡°Take a taxi back. Don''t worry about the money, I will transfer some more to youter.¡± There was a car parked just outside. The driver ran some unlicensed taxi business by sending people between the town and the nearby viges, and he was acquainted with my father as well. My mother asked him to send me back. Sitting in the car, I saw Fletcher¡¯s wife shouting, rushing to my mother, but only to be kicked to the ground by my mother. Dominik Miller, the taxi driver, nced back in the rearview mirror and said, ¡°Are you the daughter of the Snake Liquor Dragon?¡± Snake Liquor Dragon was my father''s nickname. That was just what everyone called him. I confirmed it. Dominik smiled light-heartedly, ¡°Your father is in real trouble this time. This David is really...¡± Dominik¡¯s business ran all over the town, bringing him many acquaintances, and also, if not all, many sources of the story. Yesterday my father put the snake liquor on sale. Everyone in the town knew my father''s name. When they heard it was on sale, many came to buy it. No ident happened, except for the Russells. ording to Fletcher, David was particrly drunk after drinking the snake liquorst night and had been walking along the balcony¡¯s edge, lowering his head down as if searching for something. Mr. and Mrs. Russell¡¯s room was just above my ceiling. The father and the son had been drinking till early morning. David was too drunk to stand upright. He carried the bottle into his room, saying that he wanted to have some fun with his wife. ¡°Fletcher was standing outside their room, listening to the couple''s moaning. It was said to be very passionate. Guess what? When he got up in the morning, he found David''s wife lying naked on the ground, and the snake''s tail still wiggling between her legs.¡± Dominik said while smacking his mouth. ¡°Fletcher was bold! He dared to pull the snake out himself. As soon as that snake was pulled out, he heard David give a weird cry. David snatched the snake and ran away. I guess he went out somewhere to kill the snake. s, David really pushed too hard this time!¡± Dominik looked at me from the rearview mirror, snickering. ¡°Does a youngdy like you know how women y with snakes?¡± Inside my mind was the image of David¡¯s tongue split into half and flicked out as if it was the tongue of a snake. I couldn¡¯t be bothered to answer Dominik¡¯s revolting question. He, however, kept talking to himself, while driving his car at a high speed. Soon we left the town and headed to the vige. Our vige was quite remote. It took more than an hour to drive from the town to our vige, including driving across a long mountain road. Dominik pulled the car over in the middle of the mountain road, a deste ce. He suddenly turned toward me, ¡°Little dragondy, I have to go pee, do you want to answer the call of nature too?¡± I took a look around. The road was just as wide as two cars put together; and the roadside weeds had overgrown, which made me feel unsafe. I shook my head and rejected, ¡°Please be quick!¡± ¡°Okay! You are quite vignt!¡± he smirked at me, then humming a song on his walk to the nearby woods. For fear of something unexpected, I shut the door and rolled up the windows. From N?velDrama.Org. As I closed the door, a faint voice rang in my ears, saying, ¡°He''sing.¡± I was a little curious about where that voice was from until hearing the strangeugh of that taxi driver from the woods. Then he slowly walked toward the woods, as if something had attracted him, with both of his hands pulling his pants slightly open. And right beside the tree where he had passed, David, with the snake that was once soaked in the bottle wrapped around his neck, stepped out from behind that big tree. His head moved slowly and simultaneously along with the snake''s head-neck. The green light was gleaming in the shade of the trees. The snake raised its head slowly, hissing and flicking out his tongue. David followed the snake, opening his mouth and sticking out his tongue, hissing. Even from far away in the car, when I looked at the person and the snake flicking their tongues, I could hear a voice calling my name in my head, ¡°Aurora, Aurora......¡± Dominik had walked inside the woods. I patted the window, calling him back. But it seemed that he heard nothing as he did not attempt to walk outside. Instead, the snake on David¡¯s neck crawled towards me. That inner voice in my head started to shout, ¡°Escape. Go back and find the bracelet.¡± I looked at the car keys and then the taxi driver. Having made up my mind, I swiftly climbed to the driver¡¯s seat. What my dad taught me about driving shed across my head. Firstly, I needed to start the engine. Then I should step on the clutch, put it into gear, release the brake, finally press the elerator and drive away. David threw himself at the front of the car just when I started the car. Hey there, with his mouth wide open and his forked tongue stuck out, hissing bizarrely at me. And that snake wrapped around his neck, came at me with its pointy teeth, as if it could prate the ss andnd on my face. I was too scared to hold the steering wheel. I couldn''t even make a sound. I was trying to find the windscreen wiper button by clicking on the control panel randomly. Just at that moment, a shadow shed beside me, which was followed by a powerful jet of water that swept across the front windshield, sweeping both the snake and David off. I turned to look at my side. A man wearing ck was sitting next to me. It was a handsome but pale face, whose owner seemed to be out of breath, his pink lips slightly parted, ¡°Aurora, go back to take the bracelet first! Quick!¡± ¡°Who are you?¡± It was a rather horrible experience, considering it was the first time that I ever drove a car. My palms and forehead were all sweaty. That man in ck nced at me and asked in a low voice, ¡°I am Stowy Drac. Don¡¯t you remember me, Aurora?¡± Chapter 4 The Black Mamba Bracelet Chapter 4 The ck Mamba Bracelet Stowy''s voice was low and sad, as if he felt wounded. ¡°I remember you.¡± I was driving with the steering wheel going full. ¡°You are the ck serpent in my dream.¡± ¡°Ah...¡± Stowy gave a self-mocking smile. I heard something wrong with his voice, but I couldn¡¯t spare the time to care about that. I nced over my shoulder in the rearview mirror. David, who had just been swept away by the water, got up again, stood behind the car, and stretched out his hands toward my car. The snake coiled around David''s hands. Its head was pointing at the car and its tongue was flicking out. The hiss too, I didn¡¯t notice when the voice that was calling my name had resumed. And in the nearby woods, there seemed to be something moving. Even the sound of the wind hustling through the tree appeared to be calling me, ¡°Aurora, Aurora!¡± ¡°Never look back and never look into any snake¡¯s eyes.¡± Stowy''s heavy voice sounded so serious. Being my first time driving, the car traveled on the mountain road in a zigzagging course. In this chaotic situation, how could there be any time for me to look back? When we suddenly passed the edge of a cliff, several snakes fell straight from the half-sloping tree onto the windshield. The snakes hovered, snarling at me through the ss. As Stowy waved his hand, rushing out was a current of water, and all those snakes were washed away. All along the road would asionally spring out one or two snakes, but they were washed away by Stowy¡¯s magic finger so that I could drove while sweating. The milestone tablet in front came into my sight just as the car was about to enter the vige. I heaved a long sigh of relief. But due to a moment of carelessness, the car ran straight into the stone tablet and stopped. ¡°Go into the vige and find your grandmother.¡± Stowy¡¯s shape faded as he turned toward me, ¡°Go get the bracelet. Remember to ce a drop of your blood on it. You must dig out the sarcophagus and expose it under the sun! Quickly!¡± He then disappeared, I hurried off, picking up the bag on the back. At one corner, a ragged man walked toward me. His hair and beard stuck together. It was hard for anyone to recognize his facial expression with his face so dirty. He stooped with two hands lingering in the air and giggled at me. This man was called Mr. Han who had some mental issues and often wandered around in the vige, begging for food whenever someone was hosting an event. I quickly took out a box of cookies from my backpack and handed it to him before I entered. But Mr. Han stopped me. As he pulled open the biscuit box, he grinned at me in an unfathomable fashion, ¡°You can''t go in! A snake is following you. So big and has no body. Scary. You mustn¡¯t go in there!¡± ¡°No snake!¡± I thought he was talking about Stowy. I turned back, but there was no sign of him. Then Mr. Han pointed at the shadow behind me while eating the biscuit and giggling. Then he moved closer to me, seemed to be whispering something. He said mysteriously, ¡°I tell you, it¡¯s the serpent that your father killed. It has no body, but it will take its vengeance on you. It''sing for you...¡± N?velDrama.Org ? content. I followed his gaze. It was just about ten o ''clock in the morning, and the sunshine was just in good tuning, which cast a long shadow of me. But it was not the shadow of a man at all, but more like the shadow of a slithering serpent. My clothes were already wet, but my sweat made it even wetter! I found a bottle of drinks in my bag and threw it to Mr. Han. Then I took the opportunity to run into the vige when he was picking it up. ¡°Aurora, you can''t go into the vige. Ha Ha! The ghost serpent is hunting you and your family. Ha, Ha...¡± Mr. Han still shouted at the back, but he did not attempt to go after me. To my home I went in such a hurry that I was barely able to catch my breath. Grandma was feeding the chicken when she saw me. The chicken gathered around her feet immediately ran off to the pen, fluttering their wings. Grandma looked at me while holding the food bowl. She noticed the serpent-shaped shadow on the ground as well. She blinked and said to me in a low voice as if nothing was unexpected. ¡°Aurora, stand here still and wait. I will be back in a while.¡± I stood outside the door, looking at my grandma, a little fluttered. I had no idea what my grandma was up to. Before long, grandma walked out with a big white goose. She threw the goose fiercely at my shadow. It was already exasperating enough for the goose to be caught. The short-tempered beast only became more irritated after it was thrown into the air. It fluttered its wing a couple of times, then a loud honk came out of its elongated neck. This goose is not a people-friendly animal. Whenever I saw this big white goose, I couldn¡¯t help but fear it. My father said several times that it should be brought down and cooked, but that idea was often discouraged by my grandma¡¯s scolding back. Instinctively, I tried to evade it, but my grandma instructed, ¡°Don''t move!¡± I froze and looked at my grandmother in bewilderment. The big white goose fell into my shadow, with its feet stomping on the ground a couple of times. After finding the right direction, as expected, it extended the long neck and two big wings, and charged towards me. ¡°Aurora, don''t move.¡± Inside my head, Stowy¡¯s voice warned me as well. It¡¯s really painful to be bitten by a goose. Like one bite was not enough, it had to bite more here and there with that sharp beak. After being bitten several times, I was confused but also afraid. After a while, Grandma came out with a te of food to distract the big white goose away. Then she looked at my shadow and said to me, ¡°It''s all right now. Come in.¡± Following my grandmother''s stare, I saw the serpent-like shadow behind me was gone. Everything had returned normal. I sighed a heavy relief. Got rid of the trouble so easily, how unexpected! Then I asked my grandma, ¡°is the ck Mamba Bracelet still in our house?¡± Grandma added some water to the te to feed the goose and looked at me with a light sigh, ¡°It has started! I''ve had this goose for ten years. It¡¯s best if we don¡¯t need to use it. I didn¡¯t expect to have used it as soon as you turned eighteen.!¡± ¡°Grandma, what¡¯s the meaning of all these? Was it true that there was a serpent guarding the sarcophagus when I was born?¡± I held my grandmother''s hand, confused. My grandmother took me inside and opened a wooden crate adorned with copper nails. It was my grandmother¡¯s dowry. From the crate, she took out a carefully carved box which was the size of a palm in which there was something wrapped by white fabric. ¡°Many years ago, Mrs. Quebec had told us, that this bracelet can protect your safety. but if we give it to you, it may¡¡ ¡°Grandma looked dreadfully worried, but she still chose to hand me that ck Mamba Bracelet. She said, ¡°It¡¯s the sin made by ancestors of our house.¡± As she said this, her eyes were brimmed with tears. She grasped my hand and sighed, ¡°s! Aurora, theymitted the sin themselves, but they didn''t pay for it, and now it fell on you! Karma shall punish them! Why should my sweet granddaughter suffer the consequences?¡± I looked at grandma, puzzled, ¡°What on Earth is going on?¡± Grandma waved at me, ¡°All the way back, haven''t had breakfast, right? Eat breakfast first! After breakfast, we will go to Mrs. Quebec¡¯s ce and see thete Quebec¡¯s apprentice, who¡¯s also a renowned Channeler around the neighbor. ¡°But Stowy said that I have to go and locate the serpent sarcophagus.¡± I stood up with that white fabric. Grandma shook her head and said, ¡°It¡¯s gone, hit by lightning!¡± She went into the kitchen, apparently in no mood to unveil that memory. ¡°First, drop your blood on the bracelet!¡± Stowy reminded me in my head. Slowly unfolding that piece of white fabric, I found a serpentine jade inside as dark as the ink. The carving was so meticulous that even the scales were vividly visible. Though made out of ck jade, the snake''s eyes, half-open, seemed so crystal that they can shine in the night. It looked just like the ck snake in my dream. As I gazed upon it, the half-closed eyes suddenly openedpletely. In astonishment, I almost dropped the bracelet. Stowy¡¯s voice ceased, as if he was deep in thought about the jade-made bracelet. The white goose shouted. I found a sewing needle of grandma¡¯s, using it to prick my finger, and then squeezed some blood on the bracelet. The red fell on the ck bracelet. The blood seemed to havee to life and quickly spread out along the carved scales. In a blink of an eye, the whole body was covered in red. As I stared, the light suddenly got dimmer, and I felt something cold and soft on my lips. I raised my head in surprise, only to see Stowy¡¯s handsome face before my eyes, close to my lips. His lips moved, like a sigh, or in soliloquize, ¡°Finally! Aurora, I get to kiss you.¡± Chapter 5 Channeling the Spirit Chapter 5 Channeling the Spirit No one would expect a kiss after I did the blood thing. At that moment, my mind went nk, and I kept blinking uncontrobly, Should I just p him, or be grateful and say nothing? I didn¡¯t know! After all, the ghost serpent was real, and people had been killed for it. Compared to losing one¡¯s life, some small harassment seemed unworthy to mention. Seeing that my thoughts had recovered, Stowy closed his eyes, and his lips were pressed together as if he was savoring a memory or trying to hide something, but there was still sadness in his eyes, ¡°This is just one of the ways to unlock the magic of the bracelet. I didn''t tell you about it, because I was afraid that you might... well, find it uneptable.¡± If I knew, I would never have agreed! ¡°Aurora,¡± In the kitchen grandma called, ¡°lunch is ready¡± I turned to look at Stowy and wanted to ask him if he would like to dine with us together. After all, I still need his help. ¡°I don¡¯t need to eat.¡± Stowy disappeared right away. Holding the bracelet in my hand, I didn¡¯t know what I ought to do with it. But it suddenly came alive, with its snake body stretching slowly and crawling along my palm. I was naturally afraid of snakes. Now one in my hand, I almost threw it away. ¡°Fear not!¡± Stowy''s voice rang again. It was from the snake¡¯s mouth. The ck snake raised its head and turned back into the bracelet around my wrist again, ¡°Eat! After lunch, I will take you to see Mrs. Quebec¡¯s apprentice......¡± Grandma called again. When she saw me staring at the bracelet, a frightened expression showed on her face, like she was unwell. ¡°Grandma? I waved the snake-shaped bracelet at her, and said, ¡°is there anything wrong with the bracelet?¡± ¡°Nothing, everything is exactly where it¡¯s supposed to be. It¡¯s the right way! That''s the way it is...¡± Grandma¡¯s voice faded, but her eyes were still staring straight at the bracelet, as though she could do nothing to help So far, I failed to find out what my grandma knew exactly. Though I wished to inquire more, I suddenly couldn¡¯t open my mouth seeing my grandma''s distraught look. Content is ? 2024 N?velDrama.Org. After lunch, grandma brought with her some joss paper and candles. She also packed a liter of rice, along with four justid eggs from the henhouse. The chickens no longer screamed and ran away when I approached them, but they still dared note near me. Before going out, my grandma asked me to hold the big white goose, ¡°Goose can scare the snakes off. Hold it and don''t let go, lest you get to be targeted by the snake on the road!¡± Grandma seemed to be prepared for the whole thing, which made me feel even more confused. Mrs. Quebec lived in the vige next to us, so grandma and I must leave the vige. At the entrance, Mr. Han was enjoying the sunbath with his belly full. He giggled when he saw us, ¡°The Lady of House Dragon was entangled with a snake. So she bes a snake¡¯s wife and delivered a babe. Her name should be Dragon, but her child is a serpent? How strange! How strange!¡± ¡°Shut your filthy mouth!¡± My grandmother growled at him and pulled me away. Mr. Han was still singing to himself. Although he couldn¡¯t speak clearly, he did sing this children¡¯s rhyme very clearly. Confused, I asked my grandma, ¡°what does he mean by his singing? Delivered a serpent baby, but the surname is Dragon?¡± I learned what entangling with a snake means this morning, but what about delivering a baby serpent? ¡°Leave it.¡± Grandma grabbed me and pointed to the car. ¡°Is that the car you drove back?¡± Grandma¡¯s finger poke at my forehead while I was about to nod. ¡°Are you out of your mind! You are too young to drive! What if you hit someone, or you died in an ident? If you got caught, you could go to jail for that!¡± When grandma disciplined a child, it was often an intense and unpleasant experience. I urged her to move, and then called my mother, nning to ask her to inform Dominik to pick up the car. But nobody answered the phone. I called my dad, and it was the same. I thought grandma and I would walk to the next vige, but she stopped a motorcycle and asked the driver to take us there. She even arranged for someone to check the car to see if there were any repairs needed. If so, she would cover the expense. Honesty is amon quality in my grandmother''s generation. Thete Mrs. Quebec was the one who used the rice to extract snake venom out of my father¡¯s body and then was bitten to death by snakes on her way home. ¡°Her apprentice is her niece, also a Quebec. Now we all call her Mrs. Quebec as well. You should address her politely as Aunt Quebec.¡± Grandma made the point clear to me before we went in. When we got there, Channeler Quebec was helping others channel the spirit before that seeker was kicked out halfway. A middle-aged woman in a blue cloth walked out, whose hair was tied up with a wooden hair stick. A liter of rice was sshed in front of the door. Her face turned green when she chided, ¡°There¡¯s mold on the rice, and the eggs have gone bad. What have you done? Don¡¯t you really know? And you dare ask me!¡± That seeker was an olddy, whose didn¡¯t look happy after being thrown rice by that middle-aged woman. She pointed at that middle-aged woman and said, ¡°Who knows if you¡¯re trying to cheat me out of my money! The rice is freshly bought this year. It was alright when I fetched it from the container. But it was molded when it came into your hand! Maybe you did something about it! ¡° ¡°You know exactly whether I am behind this.¡± The middle-aged woman pointed to the turned egg ¡°only dark people have dark eggs! See it yourself!¡± As she was spoking, arge piece of meat was thrown out, along with a stic bag of incense candles and joss paper. ¡°Take your things and go away!¡± Seeing it was over, grandma pushed me forward, ¡°this is Aunt Quebec.¡± The old woman wanted to say something more, but was deterred by Aunt Quebec¡¯s hard stare. ¡°If you don''t want the entire vige to know what dirty work you did, I suggest you get lost right away!¡± ¡°Bah!¡± The old woman picked up the meat and the bag of joss paper and candles, pointed at Aunt Quebec, and said, ¡°You are the wicked one. You will be bitten to death by snakes like your aunt sooner orter!¡± Hearing that, my grandmother froze and pulled me to one side. Mrs. Quebec grunted indifferently and turned to look at us. After that old woman walked away, Mrs. Quebec said to us, ¡°You heard it. When my aunt died, we had sworn that we will never channel spirit for the Dragon family again! ¡° ¡°Channeler Quebec,¡± Grandma lifted up my wrist, pointing at the snake-shaped bracelet and said, ¡°She has worn the bracelet on her wrist!¡± Mrs. Quebec looked at the bracelet, and her expression became unfathomable. ¡°You are Aurora Dragon?¡± I nodded hurriedly, didn¡¯t expect her to know my name. She tutted, ¡°Do you know how you were born?¡± When I was a child, I often heard people in the vige talking about it every time I went there. They said that I was a snakedy. Seeing me nod, Aunt Quebec said, ¡°Why do you ask me to perform the channeling magic since you already know who you are!¡± ¡°Your aunt gave us this bracelet!¡± Grandma pulled me forward and looked at Aunt Quebec, ¡°Our two families were united once, and...¡± ¡°All right!¡± Hearing that, Mrs. Quebec suddenly interrupted grandma''s words. ¡°I can channel the spirit for you, but you can¡¯t go in. Just do it out here!¡± The olddy before us was driven out. When it came to us, we couldn¡¯t even be allowed to walk into her door. I was a little ufortable about it, but grandma seemed to be very pleased. She took the rice and the eggs out. ncing at me, Aunt Quebec moved out a long table and put an incense table on it. She picked up two eggs and buried them in the rice, then lit the incense sticks and threw two zafus on the ground. Grandma pulled me down on my knees on the zafu, and then she began to murmur something. Aunt Quebec squatted aside to burn some paper while ncing at me from time to time. But the fire that burned the paper gradually died off. Mrs. Quebec tried to burn it again. This time the fire was put off as soon as it touched the brazier. She entered the room particrly to fetch another pile of paper, but the results were the same. Though it was burning at first, the fire distinguished as soon as it touched the brazier. Aunt Quebec started to wear a long face. She gritted her teeth and took a ming coal ball from the stove and put it in the brazier. Even in this way, the paper, though obviously dry, was just like the wet paper and cannot be caught by fire when thrown into the burning brazier. Mrs. Quebec''s forehead slowly sweated, turning her head to look at me, and then looked up at the incense on the incense burner, seemingly havinge to a realization. She got up and took out the eggs buried in the rice and put them on the table. She looked at my grandmother and said, ¡°You see, it¡¯s not that I don¡¯t want to help. The Paper does not burn because of the snake¡¯s breath underneath. The Eggs buried in the rice were also contaminated by snakes.¡± She said, then threw the two eggs at the ground. I clearly remembered that the eggs were from the henhouse, but what lied within the cracked eggs were two baby snakes still with their eyes closed! Once the egg was broken, the snakes wriggled a few times in the egg liquid and then stopped moving and died. My grandmother was so scared that she pulled me two steps back and looked at Aunt Quebec. ¡°But the Quebec family and the Dragon family were......¡± Aunt Qin''s face darkened. ¡°I don''t want to follow in my aunt¡¯s footsteps and be bitten to death. Why don¡¯t you go back to have a look? Maybe something has happened in your home?¡± ¡°As for the past of our two families, it can wait until you find that serpent sarcophagus.¡± Aunt Quebec looked at the two dead snakes on the ground and stared at the other eggs that grandma had brought. ¡°Open these two as well.¡± Grandma brought four eggs in total, so now there were still two remained. After hearing Quebec¡¯s words, she threw them directly at the ground without a second thought. Inside each of the two eggs was a small baby snake just like the former two. My grandma was so scared that she kept sweating. She grabbed my arm and was ready to go home. ¡°Tell her to find the serpent sarcophagus. She knows it!¡± Stowy suddenly talked. ¡°The bracelet had helped save the Quebec family before. Now it¡¯s time for them to return the favor!¡± I looked at Auntie Quebec. Before I said anything, she spoke first, ¡°You need to leave now! Something happened in your home.¡± She sounded impatient like she was driving us away. Then she pulled the door and was going to shut it. I felt something cold crawling on my wrist, and then the bracelet fell. ¡°How dare you, Quebec, to drove your Lord away?¡± The Mamba bracelet fell to the ground with a loud noise, and it turned to a human. Mrs. Quebec, who was going to shut the door, trembled when she saw Stowy. She knelt. ¡°Lord Drac, I dare not! I dare not!¡± Chapter 6 Driven Away from the Village Chapter 6 Driven Away from the Vige When Mrs. Quebec saw Stowy, her feeling seemed to be a mixture of both fear and respect. She was trembling all over as she knelt, but she dared not move even a muscle. Stowy¡¯s low-pitched voice sounded again, ¡°I have been protecting the Quebec family for many years. Are you going to disregard my help?¡± ¡°Forgive me, my lord. I dare not, I dare not!¡± Mrs. Quebec''s voice trembled. ¡°Do what you¡¯re supposed to do!¡± Stowy turned into the bracelet again and wrapped himself around my wrist. Not until Stowy disappeared did Mrs. Quebec get up. Her blue coat seemed to be thoroughly soaked. She stared at me, while holding the door like she was going to fall. From N?velDrama.Org. Her eyes were piercing as if she can see right through me. It made me panic. I was soon pulled aside by my grandma, who pointed ahead, asking me to step forward. ¡°Now, you should return and get ready. Tomorrow we will look for that sarcophagus.¡± Mrs. Quebec said while holding the door. She was overstressed. ¡°And Aurora, remember to hold the white goose tight on your way back. And be careful!¡± The big white goose had its feet pricked and was put down. Realizing the seriousness of the matter, I hurriedly held the goose up. ¡°Mr. Han, the one who guarded your vige, offer him something nice and better ask him to watch the door for your house tonight! Otherwise, I am afraid you won¡¯tst through the night.¡± Mrs. Quebec stared at the ck bracelet on my hand and said coldly, ¡°Even with lord Drac to protect you, you can¡¯t defeat that ghost serpent!¡± Listening to her faint voice, I felt a chill inside. With her promise to help us locate the sarcophagus, my grandmother was pleased, and she returned home with me. On the road back, grandma told me, ¡°Quebec took over the channeling business after her aunt died. But her ill temper and constantly driving people out had earned her a bad reputation. Few people knew this business now. Now, even fewer people are willing toe to her door. I had to say I was impressed that she had the strength to pull the old woman out. Nowadays, many motorcycles were running across the nearby viges. My grandmother and I took one to get home. Grandma also told me that every vige has a guardian, which is usually the person who had guard the vige with his or her life to atone the sins. This person was usually very kind in heart and could guard the vige against disasters, but may look dumb because his soul was not whole. Mr. Han was the one who was guarding our vige. Thinking of Mrs. Quebec''s words, grandma stopped the motor at the vige entrance. She tried to coax Mr. Han to our house for dinner and to stay overnight. ¡°I won¡¯t go. Snakes are in your house!¡± Mr. Han sat on the stone tablet that was knocked down by me earlier, and shook his head, ¡°A lot of them! I won¡¯t go.¡± ¡°There¡¯s no snake,¡± Grandma exined impatiently. I looked at Mr. Han, while the thoughts of the snake babies in the eggs, and the incident with David¡¯s wife struck me. I pulled at my grandma¡¯s sleeve and said, ¡°Leave it.¡± ¡°Shush.¡± Grandma went to pull Mr. Han. I stopped her quickly. ¡°Never mind. Whatever might happen, we can deal with it. Why drag others along? ¡° Mr. Han was actually quite nice. He would always do his best to help whoever was hosting an event. Vigers often bullied him and gave him all sorts of dirty works but only let him eat the leftovers. And he was okay with it. Mrs. Quebec said he can protect me against the disaster. But the ident that happened in David Russell¡¯s house made me realized that we were letting Mr. Han die for me. ¡°Aurora, don''t pull me!¡± Grandma tried to grab Mr. Han again, coaxing him, ¡°I will cook a chicken, big rooster, very fat! And you can have the whole chicken! And drinks too, beer, wine, I will give you whatever you want.¡± ¡°Granny!¡± Seeing grandma beguiled him like tricking a child, I shouted seriously, ¡°Don¡¯t do this, okay?¡± I pushed Mr. Han away, ¡°There¡¯re snakes in my house, and I have one on my body too! If you ever Mr. Han looked at me and giggled, stretching out his dirty hand, pointed at my grandma. ¡°Fascinating, your granddaughter is fascinating!¡± Grandma stared at me, with tears in her eyes, before she swung her hands fiercely and went home. Mr. Han was still there, giggling, ¡°Fascinating! Fascinating!¡± I looked at him, taking out all the cash from the bag and gave it to him, and then I cruelly said to him, ¡°If you dare toe to my house, I will beat the hell out of you. Got it?¡± Mr. Han ran toward the vige shop with the money whileughing. Holding the goose in my hand, I hurried forward to catch up with grandma. She looked at me with a reddish nose and tearful eyes. ¡°Who do you think I do this for? Am I the evil olddy? Who do you think I do it for? Do you want me to see you die in front of me? I can¡¯t do that! ¡° ¡°Granny!¡± I tried to pull her, but Grandma pushed me away and strode home. I ran behind her with the goose in my arms. Halfway back home, Aunt Luth, our neighbor came to us hurriedly. ¡°Granny Dragon, I am looking for you. Your chickens and ducks are all dead. Go home quickly and check it! There are a lot of snakes in your house. Could it be that your son came back to collect the snakes but left the cage open?¡± ¡°Thest time when I saw so many snakes were at your granddaughter Aurora¡¯s birth!¡± Aunt Luth said hastily before she noticed me. Then she looked at me for a moment and said with slight embarrassment. ¡°You¡¯re back?¡± Grandma sucked her nose and nodded toward aunt Luth. Then she ran quickly toward home. ¡°Thank you, Aunt Luth.¡± I hurried to catch up. Just when I ran off a few steps, I heard Aunt Luth in the back snap, ¡°Eww. No wonder so many snakes, the snakedy is back. Bah!¡± The moment I turned towards her, she smiled at me awkwardly. When we arrived home, the yard is full of dead chickens, and various colors of snakes were crawling among the dead chickens. Grandma was so angry that she grasped the big white goose out of my arms and threw it into the yard. ¡°It took its revenge here while I am gone.¡± Stowy¡¯s voice was in my ear. Hearing the hiss from the bracelet on my wrist, all the snakes fled immediately. The big white goose pped its wings and ran after the snakes. With her entire body shaking out of anger, grandma checked the chicken pens, then went back to the pond to check the ducks in the bamboo fence, the pigsty, and the rabbit house. All, without exception, were killed by snakes. Grandma''s body seemed to have stooped even lower when she turned to me, and then picked up the shovel silently to carry the dead animals to the backyard. I helped dig a pit with the hoe. Watching grandma putting the dead animals one by one into the pit, I just felt sad. I tried to speak to her, but her mouth was tightly shut, clearly out of anger. We buried the dead chickens, ducks, and rabbits. There were two dead pigs in the pigsty, which grandma and I could not move. She called my Uncle Peter for help. ¡°Grandma.¡± I refilled the pit and tried tofort grandma. She held me in her arms and cried bitterly. ¡°Aurora, I was not a good person! I want to have Mr. Han die for you. But if I could die for you myself, I will certainly do it!¡± ¡°My Aurora, my sweet granddaughter, how did it fall on you?¡± Grandma hugged me, with tears falling on both of her cheeks. Finally, all day¡¯s bad mood was let out. I hugged grandma as well. ¡°It doesn¡¯t matter, we do have Stowy, don¡¯t we? He will protect me.¡± The ck bracelet on the wrist heard this, stirred. I seemed to have heard Stowy¡¯s deepugh. Uncle Peter was meticulous. When he came, he even brought along a few others from our n. All of them were covered with the smell of alcohol. They sprinkled sulfur over my house before they entered. Grandma led them to the pigsty to drag the pigs out. When they came to the backyard and saw me, none of them had given me a friendly face. Uncle let some of the men fill the pit, and said to me, ¡°Aurora,e here.¡± Grandma was looking at the two pigs with pitiful eyes. They were raised before the next spring festival arrived, which had been growing for more than six months in the pigsty and be as heavy as over fifty kilos. The pigs died rather miserably, with their stomachs bit through. My uncle took the advantage of my grandmother''s absence and took me to the front yard, ¡°You have seen what happened to your family. You know what will happen when youe back to the vige again. Go away before it is toote! And leave the vige at once!¡± I look at him, surprised. Looking sullen, he lit a cigarette. ¡°This is not my idea. The men I brought here all agree that it¡¯s right to get you out of the vige.¡± ¡°All you know was that when you were born, snakes worshipped you at the side of the road. But what you didn¡¯t know is that the vige was flooded with snakes that year, and a lot of chickens and ducks were killed, the pigs too.¡± Uncle Peter blew a smoke ring, and said to me in a solemn voice, ¡°Just say goodbye to your grandma and I will send you out of the vige by motorcycle. Alright?¡± Chapter 7 Moving The Grave To Marry The Snake Chapter 7 Moving The Grave To Marry The Snake I thought that if anything happened in my home, I would just take my time and figure it out, but I didn''t expect that I would be a curse to the vige. In light of what happened to David''s family, and those chickens that died in my grandma''s house, I realized that the ghost snake was really chasing me pretty hard and that it wasn''t sensible for me to stay in the vige. ¡°Uncle Peter, do you know how I have offended those snakes?¡± I really didn¡¯t understand why that ghost snake was chasing me. Uncle Peter took a deep toke and said, ¡°It''s because your father killed that serpent in the Sarcophagus, so when you were born, you were targeted by the snake.¡± When he said this, he was sucking hard on his cigarette, and the smoke choked me so that I took a step back. As soon as I moved, Uncle Peter''s cigarette suddenly went out with a ¡°sizzle¡±. He was curious, turned the cigarette upside down and looked at it, and took out the lighter to lit it again, but couldn''t light it up. He had to throw this one away and take out another one. But all the cigarettes were wet. The ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist twitched and Stowy whispered in my ear, ¡°He''s lying. That serpent in the Sarcophagus was killed, but how did it get in there in the first ce? Why did they want to move the graves?¡± Seeing that the cigarette could not be smoked, Uncle Peter looked at me and said, ¡°Just pack up. I''ll send you away now.¡± ¡°Can I leave on a dayter? I''m going to find the Serpent Sarcophagus tomorrow,¡± Uncle Peter was in too much of a hurry to drive me away. Although Grandma asked him to help, he brought so many people at once who all drank realgar wine and carried sulfur, which made me feel that Uncle Peter actually came prepared. ¡°What Serpent Sarcophagus? The Sarcophagus containing the snake was struck by lightning on the night you were born, so there was not even a grain of dust left. There is no Serpent Sarcophagus!¡± Uncle Peter was a little pissed and threw all the wet cigarettes in his hand to the ground. He looked at me and said, ¡°Aren''t you going to have the college entrance exam? You can¡¯t be so superstitious after your parents spend so much money sending you to a school to learn knowledge. Hurry up and go!¡± Saying that, he reached out to pull me. But before he touched me, his hand seemed to be stabbed by something, and he winced in pain. I knew it was Stowy who did it. I stared at Uncle Peter and was going to ask about the story of moving graves in the past when I heard screamsing from the backyard. I was afraid that something happened to my grandma, so I ran to the backyard. Then I saw the guys from my n were panicking and pounding heavily on the ground with their hoes and shovels. One after another those thicker-than-arm snakes slithered backward from the pit where the dead pig was buried. They crawled and hissed with their heads held high. As soon as I came in, all the snakes immediately turned their heads and hissed at me with their tongues out. The sound was so concurrent, as if someone was mumbling, ¡°Aurora, you can''t escape. You can''t escape.¡± This time, I wasn''t the only one who could hear it. Everyone in the yard heard it. All these people from my n were looking at me with fear. The tools they held in their hands were shaking, but none of them dared to go forward to hit the snakes at this time. Stowy snorted and directly led the ck Mamba bracelet to climb on the back of my hand. Then, ck Mamba raised its head and let out a low growl. All the snakes that were hissing with their heads held high immediately fell to the ground and crumpled. ¡°What are you looking at? Kill them and bury them.¡± Uncle Peter was the first to react. He grabbed a shovel and pped it hard against the head of a snake, and smashed it directly. The others then followed suit, smashed the heads of all the snakes and threw them into the pit of dead pigs to bury them. Uncle Peter borrowed a cigarette to smoke. But no matter whom he borrowed from, the cigarettes he got were all wet. He looked at me with resentment, ¡°Damn it. As you can see, those snakes crawled out from the bellies of the dead pigs. They are aimed at you. If you don¡¯t leave, your grandma will probably die, and the vigers will suffer. Do you want to put the whole vige in danger?¡± Grandma was helping to bury the snakes. I looked at her, thinking of Mrs. Quebec''s words, and knew this would not work. I had to say to Uncle Peter, ¡°I''m not going to the town. You can take me to find Mrs. Quebec.¡± ¡°As you wish. As long as you don''t go into the vige.¡± Uncle Peter winked at me, signaled one of his men to go talk to my grandma, and headed straight out the door. There was nothing for me to pack. Because I came back to find the ck Mamba Jade, and it had now be the ck Mamba Bracelet in my hand, so there was nothing more. When I left, I didn''t take the big white goose with me either. With Stowy around, I could just let this big white goose watch the house for grandma. Uncle Peter drove me in a small car. When we passed the vige entrance, I noticed that the car I took from Dominik was gone, and I guessed that Dominik had driven it back. Mr. Han was leaning against the monument with a bottle of beer in his hand. He looked at me through the car window and giggled, ¡°Go away, go away.¡± I got a little chill in my heart and took out my cell phone to call my parents, but I still couldn''t get through. I tried calling Aunt Luth at the store, and she immediately replied, ¡°David is missing, and your parents are helping to find him. Their phones are probably out of battery. Your mother told you not toe back for a while. The Russell¡¯s are still trying to make you pay for their daughter-inw¡¯s death by marrying David.¡± At the thought of David''s weirdness, I told Aunt Luth to tell my parents not to look for me yet, and if something did happen at home, and if they came back, they should go straight back to the vige. Not long after I hung up the phone, grandma called and asked where I had been. I had to lie and say that Mrs. Quebec was afraid that I was not safe at home, so she asked me to spend the night at her ce. Grandma obviously knew something and said worriedly, ¡°Don''t listen to Uncle Peter''s nonsense. The vigers owe you this. They can¡¯t just kick you out because of the snakes! Youe back. I''d like to see who dares to kick you out. The whole vige owes you, Aurora!¡± ¡°It was really Mrs. Quebec who asked me to spend the night at her house.¡± I listened to my grandma''s words and felt puzzled. What did grandma mean with ¡°the whole vige owes me¡±? But it seemed like someone on the other end of the phone was calling for grandma, so she hurriedly dropped a few words before hanging up, ¡°If something happens, juste back! Aurora, don''t be afraid!¡± Uncle Peter obviously didn''t intend to let me talk to my grandma for long, and just turned up the car music. He drove fast, but only to take me to the intersection, ¡°You should be here with Mrs. Quebec. Just don''t go back to the vige anyway. I''ll have someone watching at the entrance to the vige, and Mr. Han won''t let you in too. By the way, don''t look for the so-called sarcophagus. You won''t find it.¡± I just closed the car door and ignored Uncle Peter. Seeing me return, Mrs. Quebec also froze for a moment. But when she saw the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist, she just nodded and sneered, ¡°You''re kicked out of Dragoir Vige, aren¡¯t you? You can sleep here for tonight.¡± Here at Mrs. Quebec¡¯s ce, Stowy came right out. He didn''t say anything and just rummaged through Mrs. Quebec''s house. From N?velDrama.Org. Mrs. Quebec was obviously afraid of him. Stowy was doing something very rude, but she didn''t dare to stop him, and just nced at him from time to time. When she was making my bed, she looked at Stowy as if she was about to say something. When the bed was made, Mrs. Quebec went to make dinner. I had to say that her family was quite poor, and the food was not very good. She didn''t seem to be in good health either. She was cooking with briquettes, and when she was cooking, she would choke and cough every now and then, and every time she would cough so hard that she almost passed out. Finally, I couldn''t stand it anymore and helped her with the cooking. She didn''t talk much, and her face was gloomy, and she went to wash the dishes after dinner, which baffled me. Stowy, however, found several thick-bound books from nowhere, ¡°Take a look.¡± Those books were all handwritten, which was the equivalent of notes or something like that. Some of the handwriting was blurred, and some were already moistened, so it was hard to read. ¡°It''s good for you to take a look.¡± Stowy opened a book, and said to me, ¡°That ghost snake is very sinister. You should rely on yourself than anyone else.¡± I flipped through it for a while. It was actually noted about channeling the Spirit, which recorded who came to channel the Spirit in which year and month, what happened, what was taken, and how it turned out. I read it as a storybook and found it quite interesting. Stowy was also flipping through another one, and when he saw certain parts, he marked it by folding the page. Mrs. Quebec finished washing the dishes. She was shaking when she saw me flipping through the notes. But when she saw Stowy on the side, she had to take a deep breath and said, ¡°The Quebec family is not going to channel the Spirit anymore. Your lordship, why do you have to dig these notes out...¡± ¡°Aurora''sst name is not Quebec,¡± Stowy handed me the folded page and looked at Mrs. Quebec, ¡°You teach Aurora how to channel the Spirit and how to tell fortune by reading the incense sticks.¡± ¡°Your lordship!¡± Mrs. Quebec¡¯s face went pale. Then she turned her head to stare at me and said, ¡°These are the Dragon family''s own sins. The ghost snake was dead, and we can''t deal with it. As long as Aurora marries that ghost snake, everything is solved. Your lordship, why do you bother?¡± ¡°Marry that ghost snake?¡± My eyes moved between Mrs. Quebec and Stowy. ¡°You mean get entangled with the snake? But didn''t you say that the snake was dead? How can I marry it?¡± Like David''s wife? Stowy snorted and looked at Mrs. Quebec. ¡°Your lordship, you don''t have to look at me like that. I''m dying.¡± Mrs. Quebec, however, suddenly looked at me fearlessly and said in a deep voice, ¡°It¡¯s inevitable to entangle with the snake. This is the promise your Dragon family made.¡± ¡°In fact, the real solution is to bury you with the ghost snake in the Serpent Sarcophagus when they move the grave.¡± Mrs. Quebec''s voice was hoarse. ¡°What do you think the Dragon family has been moving their graves for? Generation after generation, it''s to bury a woman of the Dragon family inside!¡± Chapter 8 Doesn’t Have His Snake Body Anymore Chapter 8 Doesn¡¯t Have His Snake Body Anymore I didn¡¯t know that the reason behind moving the grave would be so cruel. I looked at Stowy puzzledly. Stowy looked down and didn¡¯t deny it. This meant that it was true. ¡°We the Quebec family know what your lordship is after. It¡¯s been so many years. I¡¯m thest Quebec standing. Everyone else in my family has died. We don¡¯t owe your lordship anything anymore,¡± said Mrs. Quebec emotionally. She started coughing so badly that she had trouble breathing. She left after saying that. Stowy sighed. He then looked up and stared at me. He couldn¡¯t suppress the emotions flickering in his dark eyes, which seemed to have been veiled at the same time. ¡°Why did you stop moving the grave after I was born? Was it because my dad killed that snake, or because the Serpent Sarcophagus got hit by lightning?¡± I stared back at Stowy. ¡°You need to ask your family about this.¡± Stowy sighed and disappeared. I looked at the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist. My heart became heavy. I continued to check out the notes of spirit channeling. Some stuff was written down sloppily, some in detail. It depended on Mrs. Quebec¡¯s mood at that time. I couldn¡¯t take it anymore after reading for a while. I messaged Pearl and asked about her father. She replied saying that it was snake poison, and he was still unconscious. Her replies were cold, but she was probably not in a good mood. It wasn¡¯t the right time for me to ask much so I tried tofort her a bit, promising that I¡¯d ask my parents to go visit them after I was done with my business here. I sent the message, but Pearl didn¡¯t reply to me this time. I felt anxious. I wonder how David was doing. I wonder if Dominik managed to drive back safely. Mrs. Quebec washed her bedsheets with starch. It was stiff and smelled weird. I tossed and turned in bed and couldn¡¯t fall asleep. I tried to call my parents, but the call still didn¡¯t get through. Then, I chose to call Aunt Luth to ask about the situation. Suddenly, light shone through the window, and I could hear the sound of a car engine from outside. The car stopped in front of Mrs. Quebec¡¯s house. Mrs. Quebec who was in the room next to mine stood up and opened the door. I quickly stood up as well. As I was walking towards the entrance, Stowy suddenly said, ¡°Don¡¯t go, it¡¯s that snake.¡± Someone knocked on the door violently and was yelling about something. I knew that Mrs. Quebec was by the entrance and hence I ran up to her, ¡°Don¡¯t open the door.¡± Mrs. Quebec gave me an odd look, but she withdrew her hand that was about to open the door. She walked towards the window and looked outside. Dominik¡¯s car was parked outside. Several people were standing in front of the car. David, Dominik, Fletcher and his wife. I couldn¡¯t believe that Fletcher and his family were enchanted by the snake. I was surprised, but I quickly grabbed the bracelet on my wrist and asked Stowy who was in there, ¡°Can you get them out of the spell?¡± A snake wrapped around Fletcher¡¯s neck. Its head slightly tilted as it flicked its tongue out. Stowy didn¡¯t reply. Mrs. Quebec on the other hand nced at the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist, ¡°Do you really think that Lord Drac can do anything? He¡¯s in this state in the first ce because of¡¡± Before she could finish her sentence, the ck Mamba Bracelet on my hand jerked. The snakehead pointed towards Mrs. Quebec. She swallowed the words she was about to say and red at me in disdain, ¡°Everyone in the Dragon family is utterly devoid of conscience!¡± What she said was a little bit too much. I was about to say something, but then David walked up to us. He said in a scratchy voice, ¡°Aurora,e out, or else I¡¯ll kill them. You cannot run away. You are mine.¡± His voice was cold and eerie, like a real snake. I shivered just by hearing his voice. David snickered after talking. Dominik and Fletcher were also under a spell. They reached out their hands and pushed Fletcher¡¯s wife against the front of the car. I didn¡¯t understand what was going on. Mrs. Quebec cursed under her breathe, ¡°Goddamn! Evildoers!¡± ¡°Hold them off a bit, I¡¯ll go get something,¡± said Mrs. Quebec as she rushed into her room. I listened to her, turned around, and walked towards David. The snake that was around his neck was on his mother¡¯s leg now. It was crawling into the trousers through one of the legs. The scene before my eyes reminded me of how David¡¯s wife died. Something broke out my mind. I quickly opened the door and rushed towards them, ¡°I¡¯m here!¡± Stowy sounded like he sighed again. But this time, he didn¡¯t stop me. ¡°Aurora¡¡± David turned his head around andughed bizarrely at me. The snake on his neck held its head up. Its eyes stared at the bracelet on my wrist. ¡°Stowy, you¡¯ve lost your body, and yet you still want to protect her?¡± ¡°You¡¯ve been hiding in her dreams for 18 years, and you still try to keep her safe?¡± What came out of the snake¡¯s mouth was a human voice. ¡°Don¡¯t move, wait for Mrs. Quebec.¡± Stowy ignored the snake. He whispered, ¡°Once Mrs. Quebec gets that item, throw the bracelet at David and I will handle the snake.¡± Stowy had a n in mind. I watched David and the snake quietly. Something rustled around the house. Something wasn¡¯t right. When we looked out of the window, David was standing in front of the car. So, who was the one that knocked on the door? I quickly looked back and noticed that a King cobra was under the eaves hanging upside down. It was slithering down to the ground. I turned around. The King Cobra opened its mouth and hissed. It arched its body and leaped at me. Luckily when it was about to attack me, a strong gush of water hit it and blew it away. I quickly took several steps backward and went close the door. But when I reached out my hand, I touched something cold. My heart clenched. Without looking, I swung my hand away. A snake as wide as an opening of a cup got thrown onto the car. ¡°Mrs. Quebec! Mrs. Quebec!¡± I didn¡¯t even dare to close the door and ran into the house. In Mrs. Quebec¡¯s room, a python was entwining itself tightly around her. She had lost consciousness. Stowy grunted and the python was frightened. It quickly ran out of the window. I hurried to Mrs. Quebec. Her lips were ck and her eyes bloodshot. ¡°Here.¡± Stowy came out from the bracelet and grabbed the silver-ringed snake from Mrs. Quebec¡¯s sleeves. Stowy crushed the snake and it died. By the window, one thing slithered out after another. Two snakes struggled to sneak out of the nket, but they died after briefly exposing themselves. Stowy, who was standing next to me, wobbled. He then returned to the ck Mamba Bracelet. It took me a while to finally realize that he was the guy who was killing all the snakes in the house. I quickly checked on Mrs. Quebec and saw two dark holes on her wrist. Immediately I grabbed a rope from the side and tied her arm to stop the poison in her body from spreading. I then took out my phone and wanted to make a call. A hissing sound came from outside, ¡°Aurora.¡± David was already at the door entrance. The snake on his neck stared at me andughed, ¡°You are mine. Find the Serpent Sarcophagus and marry me. Otherwise, they will all die! Die!¡± I looked at the snake and hatred started brewing in my heart. I took out the bracelet on my wrist and threw it at the snake. The ck Mamba Braceletnded on David and became alive. It climbed onto his neck and drew a circle around him. The snake who had its head held up high were divided into two pieces. Its head fell onto the ground, which was still trying to crawl towards me. It hissed and flickered its tongue, ¡°This is just a snake I possessed. So what if you killed it? One day, Aurora will be sleeping in the Serpent Sarcophagus with me. Aurora¡ Aurora¡¡± I breathed heavily as I grabbed the huge hammer behind the door and smashed the snakehead so hard. The hammer was quiterge. I swung it against the ground and the cemented floor cracked. I just wanted to swing it again, but I didn¡¯t have any strength left. I couldn¡¯t pick it up anymore. David fell to the ground. The ck Mamba Bracelet teleported back to my wrist. Stowy said in a low voice as he gasped for air, ¡°It¡¯s all up to you now.¡± He looked like he was restrained by something. He then went quiet. I looked at the snake¡¯s head that got smashed by the hammer. I quickly took out my phone and called the ambnce, saying that someone got bitten by a silver-ringed snake and needed a serum immediately. Then, I picked up the rice measuring cup that Mrs. Quebec left on the floor and was about to leave the room. Mrs. Quebec was probably bitten by the snake when she was fetching some rice from the rice bucket. She then got constrained by the python and that was why she couldn¡¯t yell for help. I remembered the three others who were still outside the house. I nced at the rice bucket and grabbed it. The rice bucket was half-full. I poured them all over David¡¯s neck. The snake poked its tail into David¡¯s neck. Once I poured the rice on it, it got shocked and slowly slithered out of David¡¯s neck. ording to the notes of spirit channeling, rice tended to eliminate evil things. Rice was a key item to sustain life. Even until today, when a baby got back from the hospital, the elders would usually grab some rice and put them into the baby¡¯s pocket to ward off evil spirits. I carried another rice bucket outside. Dominik and Fletcher were still pushing Fletcher¡¯s wife''s head against the hood of the car. I couldn¡¯t do anything else but grabbed a bunch of rice from the bucket and threw it at them. When the rice touched them, they seemed to have gotten an electric shock and started trembling. They then fell onto the ground spitting white foam from their mouth. Fletcher¡¯s wife was slipping off the car hood. She was also twitching. This was normal when warding off evil spirits inside the body. They would be fine once they drank a hot bowl of ginger tea. I wanted to pull Fletcher¡¯s wife into the house first in case she got hurt again. But the moment I touched her, sheughed eerily. She then stood up straight and breathed on me. Her breath smelled bloody, but at the same time fragrant. I was caught by surprise and felt rage boiling inside of me. I held the rice bucket up and poured the remaining rice all over her. But even when showered with rice, she was stillughing arrogantly, ¡°Haha, Aurora. This is the Snake¡¯s Property of N?)(velDr(a)ma.Org. Lust Poison. The only antidote is supposed to be entangled with a snake. Hee, but Lord Drac doesn¡¯t have his snake body anymore. You can¡¯t save her. You can¡¯t!¡± Chapter 9 You Cant Get away Chapter 9 You Can''t Get away I didn''t expect that the snake, which hadn''t even shown up until now, would actually y these filthy tricks. Fletcher''s wife was shivering from the rice rain but was still giggling strangely. I just felt a surge of anger in my heart, then I carried the bucket and knocked heavily on her head. The whole world was instantly silent. I watched the few people who had fallen to the ground and the dead snakes that were tangled under the walls of the house, and my heart was chilled. Stowy had killed so many snakes that he was exhausted. He had already gone back to the ck Mamba Bracelet to recuperate. I stood alone in the night wind. I couldn''t even hear the insects nearby, but only the sound of the wind whistling past, and my heavy panting. I didn''t know if the Snake''s Lust Poison was real. But I felt my body getting hotter and hotter, as if my legs were starting to get weak and numb. I carried the bucket, went to the faucet by the door of the house and got a bucket of water, then poured it on the top of my head, before entering the house. After being soaking wet, I felt better, then exhaled deeply and grabbed a knife from the kitchen. Mrs. Quebec was still unconscious. I did what my father had taught me, lifted her up, and let her lean on the bed, making sure her heart was above the wound. I got knife to cut the wound into a cross, found a ss, pulled a piece of paper, and burned it in the ss. Then while the fire was still burning, I covered the mouth of the cup onto the ce where the cut was done. This was called cupping, using the air pressure to suck out the toxics. Once the heated ss cup covered the wound, I saw ck blood gushing out. I sat in the middle of the dead snakes and leaned against Mrs. Quebec''s bed. When there was no more blood gushing from the wound, I then removed the ss and poured out the paper ash mixed with poisoned blood inside. Then, I started to do it a second time. The ambnce wasing to the vige from the town, and it certainly wouldn''t be quick. If I didn''t save her, Mrs. Quebec might notst till the ambnce arrived. I did the cupping twice. On the third time, when the blood became bright red, I started to call my parents, but as before, no one answered. In the entire room, except for my heavy breathing, there was only the beeping of a busy signal. I thought about it. If I called my grandmother, she would be worried, so I called Uncle Peter. I couldn''t wait for the ambnce, so I had to take them to the hospital myself. But in this nearby vige, the only person I knew was Uncle Peter. As soon as he learned that something had happened, Uncle Peter just said in a deep voice, ¡°I''lle. Even if the ambnce is dispatched, they probably can''t find the ce. Just wait for me.¡± Uncle Peter came quickly and also brought four people from my family. The four people looked at me, and their eyes flickered, but their faces were tinged with pity and understanding. Uncle Peter looked at the dead snakes beside me and Mrs. Quebec who was unconscious, sighed and then arranged the men to work. ¡°You two carry the injured to the car. You two take care of the dead snakes, and by the way, sprinkle some sulfur nearby, so that the snakes won''te over again.¡± ¡°Aurora, change your clothes ande with me to the hospital.¡± Uncle Peter didn''t seem to be surprised that something like this would happen. I didn''t bring any clothes when I came here. Now I was soaked from head to toe, but I didn''t have time to get changed either. I took one of Mrs. Quebec''s coats and put it on, and went out with Uncle Peter. They came in two cars, and the four injured people were now in the car. The other two people from my family drove the car away directly. Uncle Peter gestured to me to ride with him. Lying in the back seat with us were David and Dominik. ¡°Now you know why I didn''t let you stay in the vige, huh?¡± Uncle Peter drove the car and the light shed. The two men who stayed behind got hoes. With one swing of the hoe, they hooked several snakes out of the grass. The dead snakes drooped limply. Under the car lights, the snake''s eyes glowed with an eerie green light, still looking creepy. I wrapped my clothes tighter, and now the heat flowing in my body seemed to be building up again. I gripped the cold door handle to suppress the heat. ¡°The snake said I would sleep with it in the Serpent Sarcophagus. So I still have to find that sarcophagus?¡± Uncle Peter was silent. The car was speeding along the country road. Content is ? 2024 N?velDrama.Org. After a long while, Uncle Peter lit a cigarette. He just took a puff, and the cigarette was half burned up. Uncle Peter seemed to have calmed down and he spoke quietly, ¡°If it said so, you do not need to find the sarcophagus anymore. One day you will bemitted to it, go with it, and sleep in the Serpent Sarcophagus yourself. That''s your fate, Aurora.¡± ¡°Why me?¡± I suddenly turned my head around to look at Uncle Peter and sneered, ¡°Isn''t my cousin the daughter of the Dragon family?¡± Uncle Peter didn''t say anything and just drew heavily on his cigarette. Obviously, he was not happy that I wasparing his daughter with me. ¡°Then what exactly is a Serpent Sarcophagus?¡± When I saw him like that, I was furious. ¡°I don¡¯t know, Aurora,¡± Uncle Peter said, steering with one hand and took a new cigarette with the other. He lit the cigarette in his hand with the cigarette he was smoking. And in the flickering light of the fire, he said in a deep voice, ¡°Serpent Sarcophagus has existed for as long as I can remember. Every eighteen years, the Dragon family has to bury a woman of their own in it.¡± ¡°But I saw when we were moving the grave that there were no bones in that coffin at all, except for the snake.¡± Uncle Peter threw the cigarette butt out. His hand was burned, but he didn''t seem to feel the pain. He just turned his head to look at me, ¡°Even the Dragon family''s woman who was buried with the snake went missing, and there were no bones.¡± ¡°I didn''t know what Serpent Sarcophagus is either. I am aware that even if we didn''t bury a woman from the Dragon family in there, the snake will find her on its own. Just like what it does with you!¡± Uncle Peter held his cigarette. Heughed bitterly, ¡°You saw it. I didn''t even want to care, but that snake keeps chasing you. If you really want to find the coffin that was dug out and struck by lightning during the grave moving activity, I will take you there tomorrow.¡± I didn''t expect Uncle Peter to agree, and was relieved, ¡°So who did you n to bury when you moved the grave the year I was born?¡± If that was the case, wouldn''t there have been a woman from the Dragon family in Serpent Sarcophagus? Why didn''t I hear about it? Uncle Peter took a puff on his cigarette and turned the steering wheel, ¡°In our generation, the Dragon family had no daughters. Aurora, the moment we knew that you¡¯re a girl, we had nned to send you in.¡± ¡°So the time we chose to move the grave was the expected date of your birth! As soon as you were born, you would be buried in it. That''s why your father killed the snake. He was saving you!¡± Uncle Peter''s face was hidden behind the smoke. After he finished, he appeared to have sighed with great relief. But I only felt chills all over my body. So I really could not get away? We arrived at the hospital in town. Because I had called ahead, the serum was ready. Plus the wound was properly treated and the silver-ring snake was brought along. Mrs. Quebec was injected with the serum and kept in the hospital for observation. I also registered for myself because of the so-called Snake''s Lust Poison. I said that I seemed to be burning up with fever like I was poisoned. The doctor stared at me funny, but still gave me a list and told me to go for a blood test. Uncle Peter and the two people from my family put David and the others in ce. Because he was also worried that something would happen to my parents, he told the two people from my family to go find them. He went back to the vige to make some arrangements and woulde back to pick me up at dawn. I had my blood drawn for the test and sat in the ward waiting for the results. It was already early in the morning and there were few people in the town hospital, even the staff on duty were few, and only faint light came through. Though near the summer, I still felt cold. As I sat there, I heard footsteps, then I looked up and saw Fletcher''s wife standing in the doorway and smiling strangely at me. I was so frightened that I scrambled to pick up the iron stand where the medicine bottles were hanging and shouted outside, ¡°Nurse! Nurse!¡± ¡°She asked you to be her daughter-inw. She doesn''t deserve it. She deserves to die!¡± Fletcher''s wife opened her mouth, but what came out was the hissing sound of a snake spitting its tongue. I didn¡¯t know what else to do for a moment. I just gripped the iron stand and screamed, ¡°Nurse! Nurse!¡± Fletcher''s wife lifted her hand. I saw that she still had the IV syringe in her hand, but only the needle part left, without the tube. She pulled the syringe out violently, thrusted it into her neck, and pulled it out again rapidly. It seemed that she pushed too hard and the whole needle was thrusted inside. When she pulled it out, the skin on her neck was torn and deformed, and the blood gushed out instantly. ¡°No! Nurse! Nurse!¡± I gripped the iron stand. Having learned from the past, I didn''t dare to go over there. The blood was bursting out of Fletcher''s wife''s neck, and she continued to hiss at me, ¡°Aurora, I''m waiting for you. I''m waiting for you in the Serpent Sarcophagus. This was your destiny from the moment you were born. You cannot escape.¡± Then she fell onto the ground. The blood from her neck was like a bright red snake slithering on the ground towards me. I screamed out in terror, ¡°Nurse!¡± Perhaps I was loud enough this time, and the nurse rushed over. Seeing Fletcher''s wife on the floor, she also turned pale with fear. She reached out and covered her wound tightly, then screamed, ¡°Somebody, quick! First aid! First aid!¡± Again, the hospital was in chaos. However, the bloody snake on the ground continued to slowly crawl towards me. My heart was cold, but my body was strangely hot. The doctors and nurses hurriedly carried Fletcher''s wife away. I leaned against the bed, thinking about the snake and Uncle Peter''s words. Even if the Dragon family didn''t bury me, the snake would force me to sleep in the coffin myself. I stroked the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist, and I had never wanted to fall asleep so badly since I could remember. I wanted to see Stowy in my dreams and ask him what the hell was going on. But I couldn''t sleep, and I couldn''t even close my eyes. Once I closed my eyes, all I could see in my head was David''s eerie smile, the blood gushing out of Fletcher''s wife''s neck, the snakes slithering in all colors, and the writhing blood snake... I just had the courage to keep my eyes open, hoping that I could be knocked out and fall asleep. But what if I slept and the snake came back? I hugged my knees tightly, sat on the edge of the bed, and held my phone. I called my dad again and again, but I just couldn¡¯t get through. It was just two days, and it seemed like I was all alone! Looking at the low battery alert, I put the phone away, then gripped the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist and whispered, ¡°Stowy, tell me what to do.¡± Chapter 10 People Are More Poisonous Than Snakes Chapter 10 People Are More Poisonous Than Snakes I never dared to sleep that night, and Stowy did note out again. No one else showed up except the nurse who came to check on Mrs. Quebec and to ask about the payment of the first-aid on Fletcher''s wife. At dawn, before the two people from my family who had gone to look for my parents returned, Uncle Peter came in first. Mrs. Quebec wasn''t awake yet. I held the phone and still didn''t get a call from my parents. ¡°The vigers are already looking for your parents. There should be news. I''ve asked the vigers to take care of Mrs. Quebec. Come on, I''ll take you to find the Serpent Sarcophagus,¡± Uncle Peter also seemed to be tired all night and looked very exhausted. ¡°You found it so quickly?¡± I nced at the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist and thought about our conversation in the carst night, ¡°I''ll go get changed first.¡± Last night, I sat with my body soaking wet through the night. Now the clothes were dry, but I still felt ufortable. But when I was about to leave, the nurse called me, ¡°You''re Luna Quebec''s family, right? Do you know that she has tuberculosis? Should I prescribe her medication?¡± Mrs. Quebec was coughing badly and said she was dying. It turned out that she was suffering from tuberculosis. ¡°Prescribe the medicine.¡± I turned to look at Uncle Peter. Uncle Peter reluctantly went to pay the bill, and then sent me home. My house was actually quite close to the town hospital, but Uncle Peter didn''t n to go in. He only said that I should get my clothes and leave, because he was afraid that it was not safe. Before I got in the house, Aunt Luth caught a glimpse of me. She rushed over here. ¡°Did you find your parents? Fletcher''s wife and her family are gone? Did something happen again?¡± I shook my head at Aunt Luth, ¡°If you see my parentse back, let them go back to the vige.¡± Aunt Luth nced at Uncle Peter''s car, and there was a sh of doubt in her eyes, but she still nodded at me. The shelves in the house were empty. It looked a little deserted without all the snake liquor. I went to the first floor, found the rice bag in the kitchen first, and also took a knife before heading upstairs. I packed a few clothes in haste. By the time I reached for the cash hidden in the vase under the windowsill, I saw Uncle Peter saying something to Aunt Luth, who was grinning. I slipped the cash into my pocket and flipped through my phone. My cousin seemed to have been born in the same year as me, and she posted pictures of her birthday not long ago. That birthday party was especially beautifully decorated, and I was envious, so I remembered it. My aunt had a job in the town, so my cousin was studying in the town, except for New Year''s Eve when she would return. I went to the post my cousin sent. She was only a month or so older than me... If the Dragon family must have one woman per generation to be buried in the Serpent Sarcophagus, my cousin obviously was born before me, so why, in my generation, was it not my cousin who should be buried, but me who was born after her? I looked down from the window. Aunt Luth seemed to have taken some money and left with a smile on her face. When I went downstairs, Uncle Peter smiled at me when he saw me carrying a rice bag, ¡°You''re really going to be Mrs. Quebec''s apprentice, aren''t you?¡± I carried the rice bag and shook my head at Uncle Peter, ¡°For self-defense. I have a ssmate whose father is in the hospital. I want to see him first before I go back to the vige.¡± ¡°Master Chang?¡± Uncle Peter seemed to know about it. ¡°Yes.¡± I nodded and looked at Uncle Peter nervously, ¡°Can you lend me some money? After all, Master Chang was bitten by a snake because of me.¡± ¡°That''s true.¡± Uncle Peter took out his cell phone and transferred five hundred directly to me, ¡°You buy some fruits and tonics to send him first, saying that you only have this much money. When your parents I received the money and got off the car at the hospital entrance. I asked Uncle Peter to wait for me below, then I bought some fruits and went up. Master Chang was well known in town. I found his ward after asking. He had already woken up and was alone in the ward. When he saw me, he seemed to be surprised for a moment. But he still smiled and said, ¡°Pearl went to school.¡± I ced the fruits I bought at his bedside and spoke directly, ¡°You know a lot about my family, didn''t you? Uncle Peter is out there and he''s taking me to look for the Serpent Sarcophagus.¡± ¡°I just want to know if a woman of the Dragon family was destined to be buried in Serpent Sarcophagus, why, eighteen years ago, wasn''t my cousin the one that got buried, who was more than a month older than me? And you had to wait until the date of my birth to move the grave?¡± I said all the words in one breath. What I had experienced in thest few days made me have to think more. When I went to Master Chang''s house the night before, I found that he obviously knew something. ¡°Aurora, don¡¯t go to seek the Serpent Sarcophagus,¡± Master Chang didn''t seem surprised to hear so many questions from me. He just looked at me and said, ¡°Since you know about Serpent Sarcophagus and the Dragon family''s women, run away as far as you can, just like the geomancy master Mr. Hugo who came to check the ¡°As long as you escape, your parents will be safe too.¡± Master Chang obviously knew something. I wanted to ask more, but Master Chang showed a look of horror when he saw the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist. He looked at me seriously and was about to say something. Instead, Uncle Peter''s voice suddenly sounded from the doorway, ¡°Aurora, let''s go.¡± I turned my head to look at Uncle Peter, but he was holding his cell phone and handed it to me, ¡°Your parents are waiting for you.¡± I saw a picture on his phone. My parents were tied up and blindfolded with towels in their mouths. It looked like they were in a cave, because there was only the faint light of a shlight in the photo. ¡°I found your mom and dadst night. Come with me. If we didn''t go, and you know it, that ghost snake might go berserk.¡± Uncle Peter was afraid I wouldn''t believe him so he showed me another video. It was a dirt cave somewhere, not big, lit up by only a faint shlight light. My parents were tied up very tightly, and no matter how much they struggled, they could not free themselves. And the person who took the video deliberately pulled the camera away. I saw that it was damp outside the cave, and countless snakes were crawling, hissing, and spitting tongues. Many of them were Property of N?)(velDr(a)ma.Org. poisonous snakes. Uncle Peter sneered at me and said, ¡°You can also call the police. But by the time the police find your parents, they''ll probably have been bitten to death by snakes. Mrs. Quebec was bitten and you treated her, but I am afraid your parents are not so lucky.¡± ¡°What about my grandma?¡± It urred to me that grandma hadn''t called me this morning. ¡°She''s fine. But if you refuse out request, I don¡¯t know if she''ll be lucky to avoid the snakes when they enter your house this time.¡± Uncle Peter nced at Master Chang. He sneered, ¡°Mr. Hugo went to see you before he ran away. Looks like he said a lot of things.¡± Master Chang ignored him and just looked at me and said, ¡°Aurora, don''t go.¡± Uncle Peter waved at me, ¡°Aurora, you go out first. I''ll have a word with Master Chang.¡± I hurriedly took two steps back and stood between Uncle Peter and Master Chang, ¡°I''ll go with you.¡± Uncle Peterughed and looked at Master Chang, ¡°I''ll see you when I have time.¡± Uncle Peter and I headed out the door, but Master Chang suddenly called out to me, ¡°Aurora, you''ve been poisoned by Snake''s Lust Poison, right?¡± ¡°The snake on your wrist doesn''t have a body, but he has a way to cure you.¡± Master Chang''s voice was deep. He uttered his words one by one, ¡°That ghost snake is very vindictive.¡± I turned my head to look at Master Chang, and he smiled at me, ¡°Pearl is still waiting to go to college with you.¡± Uncle Peter took me out of the hospital, ¡°Don¡¯t be afraid. Only you can find that Serpent Sarcophagus, and I want to destroy it too. Now you give me the phone!¡± I looked around at the people around and at Uncle Peter. ¡°You can try to call for help...¡± Uncle Peter leaned against the car door and stared at me, ¡°I deleted that video and photos. Your parents went out on their own yesterday to find David, and someone died at your house. It''s possible that your parents went out to avoid trouble.¡± ¡°And if your parents were bitten to death by the snakes...¡± Uncle Peter looked at me and chuckled, ¡°You didn¡¯t see the body of Mrs. Quebec, have you? When she was found, her whole body was ckened, covered with snakebite wounds, and beyond recognition. Probably nothing can be examined!¡± ¡°Was it you who killed Mrs. Quebec?¡± I handed him the phone and got into the car. Uncle Peter shook his head, ¡°I''m not that brutal.¡± Uncle Peter drove fast. But instead of going into the vige, he drove straight down the road into the mountains and kept going. At the end of the road, he let me out and took me forward. Not too far into the trail, we met the two people from my family who were handling the dead snakesst night, and they were carrying a bag. When they saw me, Uncle Peter pulled out a piece of clothing from the snakeskin bag and put it on me, ¡°This is my aunt''s clothes. She was the woman of the Dragon family who was buried in the Serpent Sarcophagus before you.¡± ¡°I took this coat from the coffin where the grave was moved, and it is stained with the scent of Serpent Sarcophagus.¡± Uncle Peter tied the sleeve of the coat in a knot around my neck. ¡°Do we rely on this coat to find the sarcophagus?¡± I looked at the clothes without refusing. Uncle Peter, however, took out a blindfold and handed it to me, ¡°Have you been able to hear something calling your name? Blindfold yourself and follow the sound and you will find the sarcophagus.¡± ¡°Then how can I be sure you''ll let my parents go?¡± I took the blindfold and looked at Uncle Peter, ¡°Didn''t you want to destroy the sarcophagus?¡± ¡°If you hadn''t been buried in it, it would have been your cousin. Once you find the Serpent Sarcophagus, I have a way to destroy it.¡± Uncle Peter gestured to me to put on the blindfold and said in a deep voice, ¡°It¡¯s not that I would kill your parents.¡± With that, he grabbed the blindfold directly and put it on me. Then he pulled my hands, tied my wrists with twine, and pushed me forward. I couldn''t see with my eyes. He suddenly pushed me forward, which made me stumble and almost fall. But there was no sound behind me. I tried to escape, but my eyes were blindfolded, my hands were tied, and I wasn''t sure if Uncle Peter was following me. I took a moment to catch my breath and tried to think of a way to save myself, hoping Master Chang woulde to my rescue. When I slowly calmed down, the soft and ethereal call started to ring in my ears, ¡°Aurora ... Aurora ...¡± I didn''t know the reason, but this time, my feet seemed to be out of control and I slowly walked ahead. Chapter 11 Sarcophagus of Ascension Chapter 11 Sarcophagus of Ascension The call was very ethereal. Faint, yet clear. The road from the vige to the mountain was smooth. My hands were tied up and I couldn¡¯t walk properly, but I could walk slowly forward. After a while, the direction where the sound was from changed and I identally stepped into the bushes. Something stabbed my leg and I took a deep breath from the pain. But I couldn¡¯t control my legs and was continuing to walk towards the calling. My body got pricked by thorns from time to time and the sharp pain hit me. But I just couldn¡¯t stop myself from walking. After a long while, so long that I could feel the sun slowly turning from a hot ball of heat to a gentle beam. I was getting close to the voice and my body was getting hotter and hotter as if the Snake¡¯s Lust Poison fromst night was messing with me again. But this time it was worst. My whole body was burning up and everywhere itches. My whole body got sweaty and my legs were like jellies. I stumbled and fumbled and yet my legs wouldn¡¯t stop walking. The voice in my ears started to sound like a snake hissing and flickering its tongue. Fuzzily, I stepped into a puddle-like thing and then I tripped. The blindfold on my face got caught by something and was ripped off. Only then I realized that I was in an abandoned grave pit. Waist-height grass grew all over the pit. Seemingly it had been dug a long time ago. Thousands of snakes slithered on the edges of the grave. They stacked on each other. Some held their head up and hissed at me. I then noticed my blindfold on one of the snake¡¯s tails. My body trembled violently upon seeing so many snakes. I didn¡¯t dare to move. Not to mention that the mere number of snakes could fill up the pit. If they leaped towards me, they could drown me in the pit, they didn¡¯t even need to bite me. I held my breath and after confirming that they were only staring and hissing at me, I slowly raised my hands that were tied up. Maybe Uncle Peter really just wanted to bury me in the Serpent Sarcophagus, that would exin why the rope on my wrist wasn¡¯t a dead knot. I used my mouth to try to untie the knot. At the same time, I sat down on my knees. The pit was about half my height and when I knelt, I could see what was outside. As I moved, the snakes were looking with their heads held up high. They didn¡¯t attack me yet. I observed the surroundings and determined my escape route. I then bit off the rope. I took out a ss bottle from my jeans pocket very slowly. The snakes started hissing viciously after seeing the bottle, baring their fangs. I quickly opened it and waved it around. The powder inside was sprinkled all over. I quickly grabbed the coat that was tied around my neck to wrap my hands, so that I could avoid touching the snakes as I pushed myself out of the pit. The powder in the ss bottle was snake repellent that I got from home. My father used to take advantage of snakes to make alcohol, so he would keep some snake repellent around. He also sold them too. After a whole day of dealing with snakes yesterday, I had to be careful and hence I put several bottles in my bag. And yet I still wasn¡¯t feeling assured and hence I put one in my pocket as well. My father told me before that if I got really scared after seeing snakes, I should take off my clothes and throw them at the snakes. Snakes had curvy fangs and they couldn¡¯t pierce through clothes that easily. My life wouldn¡¯t be at risk as long as I wasn¡¯t bitten and poisoned. I didn¡¯t have the time to care if that was true. I wrapped the clothes around my hands and leapt out of the pit. And then I ran as fast as I could towards the outside. At this moment, I was really d that we had physical education lessons in school. I ran in full force and couldn¡¯t care less about the bushes and thorns. No matter what was in front of me, I just ran past them. Not long after, something suddenly caught my legs. I fell and nted my face on the ground which got scratched by thorns. It was a burning pain, and I could feel warm blood dripping down. I pressed my body up and saw a snake coiling next to me. It was about the size of both of my wrists. The snake was broad and long. Its body could wrap me uppletely. At the same time, some snakes dropped down from the trees around me. Some slithered out from the bushes and they all hissed at me. The big snake slithered towards me and was hissing as well. ¡°Aurora¡Aurora¡¡± The sound from the grave pit now began to call for me again. I turned my head around to look at the grave pit and the surroundings, and put my hands into the pocket carrying the snake repellent. I then slowly stepped backed to the pit. From where I stood to the path towards the grave, snakes sat idly on both sides as if they were weing me. ¡°Aurora,¡± said the voice again. I couldn¡¯t control my legs and was walking in that direction. I got to the pit again and my legs wanted to walk me into it. The snakes hissed at me, forcing me to jump. My legs were weak. I tried my best to stay calm, turned around and ran in the other direction. Therge snake hissed and flung its tail towards me. I dodged it and grabbed the remaining snake repent and threw it at the snake. I then turned around and ran towards the mountain. My father never taught me if snakes could go up or down the hill faster. I ran down the mountain just now out of instinct but got halted, so I decided to run up the mountain this time. I didn¡¯t run too far away from the grave pit before I heard a loud boom suddenly. The smell of gun powder and niter filled the air, The sudden sound made me tremble. I looked up and saw two persons from my family holding sticks in their hands. I recognized them. They were at my grandma¡¯s ce yesterday, carrying the dead hogs. They were obviously here to stop me. I couldn¡¯t believe that I managed to use the snake repellent to run away from the snakes but got halted by humans. The hissing sounds were getting louder behind me as well as the slithering sounds. I nced up and saw Uncle Peter and the people from the family. They all had huge sacks on their hands, and they kept throwing firecrackers in my direction. The firecrackers were the size of two fingers. During the new year festival, the shops in the vige would sell them and some older kids liked to buy them and throw them into the pond. Fish in the pond would get blown up. Uncle Peter and the four family members lit the firecrackers up and threw them at the pit non-stop. Property of N?)(velDr(a)ma.Org. Other than the singlerge firecrackers, they also prepared strings of smaller firecrackers. They threw the whole thing over after lighting them up. Loud explosion sounds were heard, and the niter smell was very strong. Not long after, the snakes were gone. Uncle Peter stood in front of the grave pit and waved at me, ¡°Come here, Aurora. I¡¯ll show you the Serpent Sarcophagus.¡± ¡°Don¡¯t go.¡± Suddenly, I heard Stowy¡¯s voice. His voice was faint, he was probably woken up by the firecrackers. He said softly to me, ¡°Run.¡± But I didn¡¯t know where Uncle Peter confined my parents. I could only look at him and say, ¡°Since we found the Serpent Sarcophagus, you guys could dig it out yourselves and do whatever you want with it. Let go of my parents. We¡¯ll leave and disappear from your sight.¡± Uncle Peterughed, he waved his hands at the two family members and looked at me, ¡°Aurora, I never thought that the Serpent Sarcophagus would be here, where was also the first ce we dug to move the graves.¡± That was why the pit looked abandoned. It came from18 years ago. The two family members walked up to me with sticks in their hands. They handed me a phone. This time, they weren¡¯t showing me videos of my parents, but of Pearl. ¡°Do you think that Master Chang will rescue you?¡± Said Uncle Peter as he stood next to the pit. He scoffed, ¡°You are smart. You know that nobody will believe your story even if you tell them. Even if they believe you, they may note to rescue you. So you went to Master Chang.¡± Pearl was in a cage in the video. There were other cages around her and they were filled with poisonous snakes. I knew immediately after seeing the video, that Master Chang couldn¡¯te to my rescue anymore. I touched the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist and walked towards Uncle Peter slowly. I sneered, ¡°What do you want me to do?¡± Uncle Peter looked at the grave pit and scorned, ¡°Lie down inside.¡± I looked at him all bewildered. ¡°First, let go of my parents and Pearl.¡± ¡°Aurora, I told you before. The Serpent Sarcophagus isn¡¯t a coffin nor a snake.¡± Uncle Peter took out a cigarette from the box and lit it. But it went out the moment he did that. I immediately felt reassured. I looked at the pit and said, ¡°Why here?¡± Uncle Peter seemed to be sure that I couldn¡¯t escape. He was baffled at his cigarette that went out and tried to light it again. ¡°You were drawn to here. That means the Serpent Sarcophagus is still here. We didn¡¯t bury youst time when we dug the grave, so it wasn¡¯t sessful.¡± ¡°Aren¡¯t you poisoned with the Snake¡¯s Lust Poison? Just lie down and the ghost snake wille to you. Then the Serpent Sarcophagus will appear.¡± Uncle Peter looked excited. His cigarette wasn¡¯t lit up but he didn¡¯t seem to notice it. He said to me, ¡°Serpent Sarcophagus can make a ghost snake already so powerful. Imagine what would happen if youy in there instead. The ancestor of the Dragon family originally prepared that for their own ascension. It¡¯s the Sarcophagus of Ascension. Why does a snake have it?¡± Chapter 12 The Snake Named Orion Atkinson Chapter 12 The Snake Named Orion Atkinson Based on what Mrs. Quebec and Master Chang said, I vaguely realized that the so-called Serpent Sarcophagus was connected to the ancestors of the Dragon family, but I didn¡¯t expect it to have such a dope name. Uncle Peter wasn¡¯t able light up his cigarette before throwing it away and waving at the men next to him. The two men immediately swung the wooden sticks in their hands, forcing me to jump down. I was certain that Stowy was here, so I felt a lot calmer. With wooden sticks swinging next to me, I had no choice but to jump into the pit again. I wanted to trick Uncle Peter into telling me more information, ¡°Why is it called Sarcophagus of Ascension?¡± ¡°A snake¡¯s greatest wish is to ascend into a dragon. That ghost snake has been dead for so many years, but it¡¯s still alive in the Serpent Sarcophagus. It wants to use the Serpent Sarcophagus to ascend into a flood dragon!¡± Uncle Peter squatted by the pit and looked at me as he exined. But then he beckoned to the two men. ¡°Tie her up.¡± I was so scared that I almost jumped up, but the man next to me hit my forehead hard with a wooden stick. I was caught off guard by this blow. I only felt something explode in my head before I started seeing stars and felt dizzy. The two men jumped in and tied me up. I walked for most of the day without drinking or eating anything. I didn¡¯t have any energy left to struggle after trying to escape out of fear and being hit in the head. My hands and feet were tied up. They even tied a fast knot in front of me. ¡°Aurora, Master Chang was wrong. You can¡¯t escape. As long as you lie in the Serpent Sarcophagus, your parents will be fine.¡± Uncle Peter looked down at me. In a low voice, he said, ¡°Everyone in Dragoir Vige will thank you. When you draw out the Serpent Sarcophagus, we¡¯ll see it and know its secret. The Serpent Sarcophagus won¡¯t be used to bury snakes anymore. It¡¯s better to bury with people.¡± ¡°Do you think burying living people in the Serpent Sarcophagus has the same effect as that of the ghost snake? Will it attract snakes or protect our descendants?¡± Uncle Peter looked at me with frantic eyes. I suddenly thought of Uncle Peter¡¯s father, who was said to have suffered a stroke and was paralyzed in bed for two years. So Uncle Peter nned on burying him alive in the Serpent Sarcophagus? After the two men tied me up, they climbed out of the grave pit and signaled to Uncle Peter that they could leave. The entire grave was quiet again. I finally raised my wrist and looked at the ck Mamba Bracelet around it. ¡°Stowy?¡± Stowy appeared directly in the pit this time. With a light touch of his hand, the rope on my body was loosened. ¡°Your uncle is watching in the woods. They brought a lot of other things.¡± In other words, if I ran away, Uncle Peter would definitely stop me again. ¡°Can you help me?¡± I pulled the rope off my body, but I didn¡¯t dare show my head out of fear that Uncle Peter would see me. ¡°Help me save my parents.¡± Although he didn¡¯t have a snake body now, this ck Mamba Bracelet was movable. Based on the many years of experience of making snake liquor that my dad had, I knew that it was an opportunity to escape as long as he wasn¡¯t tied up. Stowy¡¯s gaze became more intent, and then he caressed the wound on my forehead. His fingers were as cold as jade, and with a light stroke, I felt less pain on my forehead. It seemed as if my head had been cooled down too, so I felt a lot more awake. Even my body felt better and not as hot. ¡°Toote, it¡¯s already here.¡± Stowy¡¯s finger left my forehead, leading me to look back slowly. I saw a man standing on the edge of the grave pit. He was dressed in a white robe like a deity and looked down at us. ¡°Stowy, long time no see.¡± His voice was crisp and clear, but his eyes were cold, and his pupils kept shrinking when they looked at me. ¡°Aurora, I¡¯m Orion.¡± He looked at me and chuckled. Like a snake, he tilted his head slightly. ¡°Hurt your forehead?¡± I¡¯ve always heard that he was a snake, so I didn¡¯t expect to see a human. He even had a warm and gentle smile on his face that I wasn¡¯t sure for a moment if he was still that sinister, cunning, and boorish snake¡ I turned to look at Stowy, who nodded at me. Orion chuckled, ¡°Your uncle wants the Serpent Sarcophagus?¡± I was stunned for a moment and felt something rising up under the soil beneath my feet. Soon, wind blew hard, rustling the leaves. There was lightning, but no thunder. I looked down at the weeds, trying to see what exactly the so-called Serpent Sarcophagus was. But the grass was too tall, and the thing underneath rose too slowly that I couldn¡¯t see anything at all. Stowy hurriedly hold me and jumped out from the grave. He looked at Orion and said, ¡°Why do you have to kill again?¡± ¡°Just getting my revenge.¡± Orion turned and looked at the woods on the opposite side and then hissed, poking his tongue out. Seeing him flicking his forked tongue out, I instantly stopped doubting whether he was that snake. As he hissed, there was suddenly screams in the woods. Stowy went straight back to the ck Mamba Bracelet and whispered to me, ¡°Find a chance to escape.¡± Orion had a smirk on his face and turned to look at me. ¡°You¡¯ve been poisoned by the Snake¡¯s Lust Poison. If you don¡¯t have sex with me, you¡¯ll feel worse and worse. Stowy is unable to cure you!¡± I slowly stepped back and stayed away from him. The wind blew harder, and murky clouds were everywhere. Streaks of lightning danced in the sky like thin snakes. But the thing in the grave seemed to be rising. Yet it still didn¡¯te out. Orion¡¯s white robe was pping in the wind. Just when I was prepared to slowly retreat, I suddenly heard a knocking sound. ¡°Knock! Knock!¡± Soon, my uncle and his men brought out a ss box. ¡°Orion, what do you think is inside?¡± After Uncle Peter finished speaking, a lot of people ran out with bamboo sticks and firecrackers. In Uncle Peter¡¯s box, a white snake was nailed down where its heart was with several other nails on its body. ¡°Bring out the Serpent Sarcophagus.¡± Uncle Peter held a copper nail and looked at Orion. ¡°I only need the sarcophagus. You can take away Aurora and your snake body.¡± I didn¡¯t expect Uncle Peter to be so cruel. He still used me as a bargaining chip even in this situation. I turned and wanted to escape, but looking around, it seemed that the entire vige was there. Those people held bamboo sticks and awl-like objects, which were used to hit the bamboo stick. Everyone hit the bamboo sticks in sync, making hollow noises. I remember my dad said that this was an old method in the vige, called snake knocking. When a snake was hit by a bamboo stick, the snake would not be able to escape because even if it didn¡¯t die, the bamboo stick would crack, and pieces of bamboo would mp the skin. When the snake was stabbed again, it would be nailed to the ground with no way to escape. I thought my dad just made that up, but seeing the whole vige holding bamboo sticks, I know that it was actually true. With the sound of bamboo sticks, the group of snakes was frightened and dispersed. N?velDrama.Org ? content. Just looking at the snake body trapped in the ss box, Orion¡¯s pupils kept shrinking with anger. ¡°Back then, you guys tricked John to kill me when I was molting. Then you used a Cinnabar Amulet to summon lightning to strike the sarcophagus so you can snatch the treasures in it. Now you even want the Serpent Sarcophagus?¡± Stowy seemed to have sighed deeply, but he only said to me, ¡°Find an opportunity and I¡¯ll help you escape.¡± I didn¡¯t expect that it was humans who made the sarcophagus get struck by lightning. ¡°You swallowed so many women of the Dragon family. So what if we took the gold and silver from the sarcophagus? What¡¯s worse is that it wasn¡¯t even a Serpent Sarcophagus.¡± Uncle Peter sounded very angry. He knocked on the ss box hard. ¡°You make Aurora bring the Serpent Sarcophagus to us and you can have your snake body back. How about it?¡± ¡°Are you making a deal with me?¡± Orion snickered and looked up at the lightning shing in the sky. ¡°You guys really think I¡¯m scared because I don¡¯t have my snake body?¡± I didn¡¯t have an opinion about Uncle Peter before, but this time I could notice that he was ruthless and left no room for mercy. He first got a hold of me and used that time to detain my parents. He knew that I was going to go to Master Chang for help, but he didn¡¯t stop me. Instead, he caught Pearl to prevent his n from being messed up. My cousin was obviously more than a month older than me, but she was not buried in the Serpent Sarcophagus; it was me instead. Obviously, he interfered back then. Now that he dared to threaten Orion, he must get a n in mind. Sure enough, as Orion became angry, Uncle Peter picked up a bottle of wine from the side and poured it straight into the ss box. I don¡¯t know what kind of wine it was. Even if the snake in the ss box was wounded by nails and motionless, the pain was extreme enough to make it jerk up its head and tail. Orion also seemed to feel pain as he sneered with anger. He quickly waved his hand. ¡°The Serpent Sarcophagus is here. Come!¡± As he waved his hand, the soil that has been emerging immediately surged. ¡°Serpent Sarcophagus...Serpent Sarcophagus...¡± Uncle Peter was so excited that he forgets about the ss box as he took a few steps forward. The surrounding vigers also approached anxiously. I listened to the sound of soil moving and immediately ran away when I saw a gap appear between the vigers due to the emergence of the Serpent Sarcophagus. I didn¡¯t care about Serpent Sarcophagus at all. I just wanted to save my parents. ¡°Aurora.¡± Orion stood straight and stopped me right away. But as soon as he arrived in front of me, the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist flew over. The moment it left my wrist, it instantly became bigger and entangled Orion right away. ¡°Run!¡± Stowy shouted. The ck snake instantly put down Orion. ¡°Aurora, run!¡± Chapter 13 Black and White Twin Snakes Chapter 13 ck and White Twin Snakes Seeing Stowy stop Orion, I paused and ran away. I was not familiar with this part of the woods, but the vigers left a lot of traces when they climbed up the mountain. I just followed the traces and ran. Sure enough, I saw Uncle Peter¡¯s car parked on the side of the road not long after I ran. They brought a lot of things over. I picked up a rock to smash the ss window of the car. After rummaging in the car for a while, I found the phone that Uncle Peter took away from me. He didn¡¯t turn it off, so I hurriedly called the police. However, I wasn¡¯t sure where I was, so I could only tell them that I was at the mountain behind Dragoir Vige. Before I could tell them more information, I heard a crash of thunder near the grave, and then there was no more signal for me to make the call. I didn¡¯t have the key to the car, so I couldn¡¯t drive it. I took a look at the car and ran following the tire tracks. But I didn¡¯t get far this time before I heard the screams of vigers from the grave pit, and the sound of Uncle Peter¡¯s heartbreaking yell, ¡°Melissa, Melissa!¡± Melissa was my cousin¡¯s name. I turned my head and wanted to take a look. I felt something cold on my hand and saw that the ck Mamba Bracelet returned to my wrist. Stowy came out right away and held onto me. ¡°I can only trap Orion for a while. He has already summoned lightning and all the snakes nearby. Get out of here soon.¡± I still just wanted to run, but I heard more screams. There was even the sound of someone crying. I looked at Stowy. ¡°What¡¯s going on over there?¡± ¡°You have been poisoned by the Snake¡¯s Lust Poison, so he is not in a hurry. Orion¡¯s main purpose this time is to avenge these vigers.¡± Stowy looked at me and pulled my arm. ¡°Let¡¯s go.¡± I followed him a few steps forward, but the screams behind me sounded more and more devastating. I ran a few steps, but the screams seemed to be going straight into my ears. ¡°Orion made you hear this. Aurora, don¡¯t worry about it. Run!¡± Stowy pulled me forward. I wanted to run, but it felt like the vigers were calling out to me. ¡°Aurora, Aurora, save me!¡± The voice sounded familiar, and I stopped. Stowy, who was next to me, looked at me. Sadness shed across his eyes, but from his face, I knew he understood. ¡°Aurora, you are still the same as before. Orion knew you¡¯ll go back, so he didn¡¯t even need to chase after you.¡± I was a little puzzled, but Stowy dragged me and ran back. ¡°Same asst time, let¡¯s save as many as we can.¡± Based on Stowy¡¯s words, it seemed that this kind of thing happened before. I looked at Stowy¡¯s broad back. His ck robe rustled in the wind as he pulled me and ran back, and I felt something bitter inside. The same scene popped up in my head¡ª it was someone like him who was taking me by the hand and running back without hesitation. There seemed to be a fire soaring into the sky. Amidst the hollow sound of hitting bamboo sticks, women screamed in pain, men shouted, and children cried. And the sounds of snakes hissing... I wanted to see the person in the fire, but Stowy, who pulled me, stopped abruptly. At the edge of the grave pit, the snakes that were driven away by firecrackers seemed to be back again. It looked like there were more of them this time. This time, neither firecrackers nor snake repellent were useful. All the snakes had crimson eyes and hissed at the vigers as lightning shed in the sky. Even if they fell on the ground from being struck by bamboo sticks, these snakes twisted their bodies, shed skin that was mped, and crawled towards the vigers along with the bamboo sticks. Many people fell down, and the snakes bit them ferociously. The vigers were so scared that they wanted to retreat, but in the bushes behind them, something was moving from time to time. The bushes fell straight down on both sides, and it was obvious that there were evenrger snakes in there. On the edge of the grave, Uncle Peter knelt there as if he was in pain and heartbroken. Standing by the ss box, Orion looked at the nailed-down snake body inside and then turned to face us. ¡°Stowy, have you forgotten how you diedst time? Dying once for Aurora isn¡¯t enough that you followed her back this time, huh?¡± Stowy released my hand and held the ck Mamba Bracelet. ¡°With this, the snake will dare not bite you. Go to save them.¡± ¡°Stowy!¡± Orion sighed and pointed at the vigers. ¡°You forgot that you died saving themst time, but how did they treat you?¡± ¡°Even for Aurora¡¯s sake, can you tolerate these people killing you not just once but twice?¡± Orion seemed furious. Suddenly, I turned my head and looked at Stowy. What did he mean by being killed twice? His ck eyes still showed a gentle smile, but he pushed me behind his back. ¡°Aurora, go.¡± ¡°Damn them. Peter used Aurora and my snake body just to lure me out to find the Serpent Sarcophagus. I¡¯ll have them all buried with the Serpent Sarcophagus here!¡± Orion didn¡¯t care about his snake body being covered in wine at all. His white robe moved, and he raised his head slightly. As thunder rolled and lightning shed, I saw a snow-white giant snake standing high among the trees, shouting, ¡°Stowy, they all have to die. Aurora shouldn¡¯t havee out. She should be in the Serpent Sarcophagus. You stopped it once with your life. Do you want to stop it a second time?¡± ¡°Snake monster... Monster!¡± The vigers were so scared that they didn¡¯t dare to hit even the small snakes and backed away hurriedly, only to be bitten by more snakes. Stowy nced back at me. It seemed that his bright ck eyes were glistening with tears. Although he looked at the vigers with disgust in his eyes, he gazed back at the white snake that Orion transformed into with utmost determination. His ck robe slowly tightened, and then, it felt like a drizzle was falling from the sky. Stowy¡¯s body slowly elongated, and a ck snake, whose skin was so dark as if it draped a shawl made of the starlight, entangled the white snake violently. Amidst the snakes¡¯ hissing, I heard Stowy sigh softly beside my ear, ¡°Aurora, take them away following the water.¡± The ck and white snakes were hissing at and tangled up with each other. During their fight, trees fell down wherever they went. I nced at Stowy. Holding the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist, I grabbed a bamboo stick and ran towards the vigers. The rain became heavier, and the dark clouds seemed to be stirring overhead. Lightning that was sliding among the dark clouds like snakes felt so close to me as if it could bite me by lowering its head slightly. The vigers screamed incessantly. I held the bamboo stick and hit snakes whenever I saw one. The snakes tried to climb along with the bamboo stick, but when they saw the ck Mamba Bracelet, they seemed to be woken up and ran away quickly. The water from the rain umted and soon converged into a stream on the mountain. I thought about what Stowy said and hurried down the mountain by following the stream. Therge snake that had tripped me over before was there again to stop me, but the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist suddenly swam to the back of my hand, growling. Therge snake looked up at the ck Mamba Bracelet and slowly slithered away. ¡°Follow the water! Let¡¯s go!¡± I drove the snake away with the bamboo stick and shouted at the vigers. ¡°Run for your lives.¡± In the distance, it seemed that the ck and the white snakes were still fighting. One tree after another copsed while lightning shed. Even with the rumbling of trees falling and thunder striking, Orion¡¯s roar could still be heard. The vigers could no longer care about the Serpent Sarcophagus. The bamboo sticks that were once used to fight snakes also became crutches as they staggered to leave. While they¡¯re running away, Uncle Peter wouldn¡¯t leave no matter what. The two men who tied me up limped over and said to me, ¡°Please help persuade the Vige Chief. Melissa is in that grave.¡± I was stunned for a moment and ran over with the bamboo stick. Even if the snakes here were driven away, there were still many snakes in the grave pit. Perhaps it was because the rain became heavier that the snakes that wanted to escape also hid inside. I nced into the distance. The ck and the white snakes were gone, but trees were still falling down. In the rain, I strode to the side of the grave and saw numerous snakes entangled into a huge ball of snakes in the pit. Among them, there was a corpse. The human face looked even paler against the colorful snakes. That face once bloomed with the sweetest smile when she was wearing a birthday party hat and holding a fairy wand in the picture I just saw this morning... Perhaps it was because the rain was too heavy that all the snakes were trying to hide underneath the corpse. Uncle Peter knelt by the grave and muttered, ¡°So this is the Serpent Sarcophagus, this is the Serpent Sarcophagus.¡± I didn¡¯t dare get too close and tapped him with the bamboo stick. ¡°Let¡¯s go. Orion will be hereter.¡± ¡°Aurora, it should¡¯ve been you.¡± Uncle Peter stood up abruptly. He looked at me and yelled, ¡°It said that as long as you are sacrificed to the Serpent Sarcophagus, Melissa will be fine. Why did that snake have to avenge Melissa? The one they chose from the start N?velDrama.Org ? content. was you.¡± ¡°Who said that?¡± I couldn¡¯t help but looked at Uncle Peter and shout, ¡°Who asked me to be sacrificed to the Serpent Sarcophagus?¡± Wasn¡¯t it Uncle Peter who reced Melissa with me to prevent her from being buried alive? Uncle Peter nced at me. ¡°You think Stowy can protect you? Aurora, the Serpent Sarcophagus is neither a snake nor a sarcophagus. It is the one looking for you, not Orion. You can¡¯t escape...¡± Heughed and leaped into the grave. ¡°Melissa, daddy is here to keep youpany.¡± ¡°No!¡± I was far away and wanted to stop him with the bamboo stick, but I couldn¡¯t. My hands were wet, and the bamboo stick slipped because of the water. Uncle Peter fell into the snake group and was entangled in an instant, soon disappearing among the snakes. I took a look and knew that I could do nothing, so I turned around and headed to the ss box. The ss box was even so heavy andrge that I couldn¡¯t move it. I gathered my courage and poked the body of the snake inside with the bamboo stick. ¡°Orion,e out! Orion!¡± No matter how Stowy diedst time and for whom he died, he stopped Orion to save me this time, so I had to save him! I poked the snake with the bamboo stick over and over again. After a peal of thunder crashed, Orion appeared in front of me with a clean and dry white robe. ¡°Are you calling for me?¡± Once he finished, Stowy hurried over. ¡°Aurora, hurry up. The Serpent Sarcophagus is about toe out.¡± Chapter 14 Looking Back Chapter 14 Looking Back ¡°Stowy.¡± Seeing Stowye out, I grabbed him. With a sudden force, I picked up the snake body with the bamboo stick. Looking at Orion, I said, ¡°You are also dead. Believe it or not, I will slice this ghost snake into several pieces.¡± I pulled Stowy back slowly and spoke solemnly to him, ¡°If you don¡¯t feel well, you should go back to the ck Mamba Bracelet.¡± Stowy seemed to be restricted by something. He was too exhausted and didn¡¯t have much energy left. Just now he stopped Orion twice. He was probably struggling to stand up right now. ¡°Haha!¡± Orionughed as he listened and looked at me. ¡°The Serpent Sarcophagus ising out soon, and you are letting Stowy go? Aurora, you don¡¯t know what the Serpent Sarcophagus is, right?¡± ¡°The Dragon family¡¯s daughter has already been sacrificed, and the Serpent Sarcophagus is about to He snickered at me and said, ¡°Do you know why eighteen years ago the Dragon family had to wait for you to be born and sacrifice you to the Serpent Sarcophagus when your cousin was obviously more than a month older than you?¡± ¡°Because your uncle was deluded and refused to bring your cousin back. He even bribed everyone in the vige just to wait for you to be born and buried inside.¡± Orion¡¯s voice was cold. As if telling a joke, he continued. ¡°But when the sarcophagus was opened, they saw the treasures passed down from generation to generation in the sarcophagus. Tempted by greed, they incited your dad to beat me to death. As long as I died, you wouldn¡¯t need to be buried alive.¡± ¡°You are so powerful. How can you be killed?¡± I looked at Orion, not convinced. ¡°It¡¯s definitely not possible at other times or by anyone else. But at that time, I was molting and returning to my original state, and the person who beat me was your dad, so I was killed.¡± Orion was resentful. He gazed at me gloomily. ¡°Too bad your dad was bitten by me and you almost died. But your uncle led the vigers to divide the treasures. In your vige, except for your family, everyone has a nice time and is rich even if they don¡¯t do anything. It¡¯s ridiculous that you saved them just now.¡± ¡°Your uncle is poorly ill and about to die. He still wanted to bury himself in the Serpent Sarcophagus so that he can stay ¡°living¡± and protect your cousin when he died.¡± ¡°These vigers are still thinking about the treasures, which is why they came along to look for the Serpent Sarcophagus. I made your cousine back so Peter can have his wish granted.¡± Orion slowly raised his head. The rain hit him in the face, but he seemed to enjoy it. ¡°Stowy, you can¡¯t protect Aurora. You can stop me, but can you stop the Serpent Sarcophagus?¡± As soon as Orion finished speaking, the snakes in the grave began to crawl out in shock. The grave started calling out to me again, ¡°Aurora... Aurora...¡± My legs began to be pulled toward the grave involuntarily. Stowy hurriedly held me back. I turned my head and looked at Orion puzzledly, ¡°Not you?¡± Orionughed softly. ¡°I only want to sleep with you in the Serpent Sarcophagus. I don¡¯t want the Serpent Sarcophagus to eat you.¡± ¡°What on earth is the Serpent Sarcophagus?¡± I held the bamboo stick and shook the snake body. ¡°If you don¡¯t tell, I¡¯ll throw your snake body in.¡± But Orion didn¡¯t care at all. He waved his hand slightly, and the snake body that had several nails in it slithered towards me quickly along with the stick. Stowy hugged me with one hand, and grabbed the ghost snake with the other, and then threw it into the pit. ¡°Orion, you can look for it in the Serpent Sarcophagus.¡± Just as Stowy was leading me to escape, I scanned across the grave. The entire grave was like a square-shaped bloody mouth, or a coffin with bright red velvet liner. Uncle Peter and Melissa¡¯s bodies sunk slowly. Orion¡¯s snake body was also falling. At that moment, it looked like Melissa opened her eyes. A creepy smile appeared on her pale face as she looked at me and said, ¡°Aurora,e here!¡± It was clear that Melissa had sunk quite far down, but it felt as if she was speaking inside my head, just like the voice that called out to me. ¡°Don¡¯t look!¡± With a wave of Stowy¡¯s ck sleeve, he covered my eyes and took me to run away quickly. In the distance, Orion didn¡¯t look anxious at all. He walked slowly toward the grave and jumped straight down. Stowy didn¡¯t run far before he had trouble breathing. He turned to look at me and said, ¡°At this point, the Serpent Sarcophagus won¡¯t call out to you again. You run by yourself. Don¡¯t go back to the vige.¡± I looked at his pale face and nodded. ¡°Have a rest.¡± Stowy didn¡¯t even have time to nod before his body became transparent and disappeared. I followed the stream. I didn¡¯t get very far when I heard someone snicker. ¡°The Lady of House Dragon was entangled with a snake. So she bes the snake¡¯s wife and delivered a babe. Her name is Dragon, but her child is a serpent. How strange! How strange!¡± I looked up and saw Mr. Han holding a broken umbre and looking at me with a smile. ¡°Aurora, hey, Aurora!¡± I looked at Mr. Han and suddenly felt relieved. I hurried to him. ¡°Why are you here? Are you not guarding the vige?¡± Mr. Han ced the shattered umbre over my head and looked at me with a scruffy face. ¡°Aurora, Aurora...¡± As he said my name, he looked in the direction of the grave. His voice didn¡¯t sound as confused. He sighed lightly and said, ¡°I¡¯m not guarding the vige. I¡¯m just guarding you.¡± I was stunned for a moment, but soon Mr. Hanughed, pped his hands, and shouted, ¡°Aurora is here. Aurora is here.¡± With that said, he pulled me up and ran. Before we got far, I saw my parents wearing raincoats, holding shlights and wooden sticks, and Property of N?)(velDr(a)ma.Org. searching the mountains with a few police. When she saw me, my mother rushed over and hugged me. ¡°Aurora, are you okay? Are you okay?¡± ¡°Mom!¡± I was relieved when I saw that my parents were all right. I immediately wanted to talk about the Serpent Sarcophagus, but my dad said right away, ¡°My daughter is terrified. I¡¯ll help her to rest first. I¡¯ll apany her to provide a witness statementter. How about it?¡± The police seemed relieved and d that I was fine. My mother took me to leave. My dad handed Mr. Han a pack of cigarettes but shook my hand again, beckoning me to think before I speak. ¡°Where is Pearl?¡± I thought of Peal, who was detained, and turned to look at my mother. ¡°Pearl is with Master Chang in the hospital. She¡¯s okay. You can call herter.¡± My dad held a cigarette in his mouth. He was about to light it up, but he flicked the lighter over and over again and still wasn¡¯t able to light the cigarette up. He tried with a new cigarette only to find out it was also wet. ¡°Don¡¯t smoke. You¡¯ll make Aurora feel ufortable.¡± My mother put her arms around me and red at my dad. ¡°Just one to calm me down.¡± My dad didn¡¯t care at all and handed the cigarettes to the police in front of him with one in his mouth. But when it was my dad¡¯s turn, no matter how he tried to light it up, he just failed. I reached out and touched the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist, suddenly feeling so touched. We went straight back to the town and didn¡¯t go to the vige. My dad took care of the police in the store below while my mom apanied me to shower. After bringing clothes to the bathroom, my mother didn¡¯t n to leave. She stood by the door and looked at me. ¡°Let me see.¡± ¡°I¡¯m okay.¡± I knew what she was worrying about and said in a low voice, ¡°I only stayed with Mrs. Quebec for one night.¡± ¡°Don¡¯t be shy. I have seen every part of your body when you were young. I can¡¯t stop worrying until I take a look. If you don¡¯t take it off, I¡¯ll take it off!¡± My mother stood on the side and yelled at me. When she finished yelling, all traces of calmness that she had on her face when she faced the police disappeared. She trembled and appeared as if she could no longer support herself as she leaned against the bathroom door. Since childhood, my mother looked carefree no matter what she did. She was the kind of person who gambles away tens of thousands in one night without any hesitation. But now her eyes were red, and her eyelids trembled as if she was about to copse at any time. ¡°I¡¯ll take it off.¡± I took off my clothes one by one and moved the ck Mamba Bracelet on my wrist when I pulled my top. Back then Stowy snuffed out my dad¡¯s cigarette, so I was aware that he must be still conscious now. I blushed instantly. When I took off my clothes one by one, my mother turned me around and made sure that there was nothing wrong except wounds from scratches. She washed her face with cold water, calming down, and then said, ¡°When you see the police, tell them that it was because of the death of David¡¯s wife upstairs that you were afraid of being avenged by his mother, so you went to your rtives¡¯ house to hide. But they chased you there, so you hid in the mountains and then ran into a group of snakes, which was why you called the police.¡± ¡°But what about the death of Uncle Peter and Melissa? And those people in the vige...¡± Hugging myself, I looked at my mother, ¡°You guys want to conceal the truth?¡± I thought of the most important thing. ¡°The Serpent Sarcophagus is still in the grave. And the snake named Orion. We...¡± ¡°Don¡¯t mention the Serpent Sarcophagus!¡± My mother looked back at me fiercely with blood-shot eyes and panted heavily. ¡°Aurora, forget these things. Don¡¯t mention the snake and the Serpent Sarcophagus. What happened to your uncle and cousin has nothing to do with us.¡± ¡°But...¡± I was a little perplexed. My mother waved her hand feebly. ¡°Just deal with the police this way first. We can talk about the rest ¡°You and dad always knew of the Serpent Sarcophagus, right?¡± I folded my arms across my chest. I started feeling goose bumps pop up and looked at my mother intently. ¡°So you guys don¡¯t take me back to Dragoir Vige except for the New Year.¡± ¡°Yes.¡± My mother was gripping the handle of the bathroom door. She nced back at me. ¡°The year I married your dad, it happened that Peter¡¯s aunt was entangled with a snake. One day, she ran out from the backside of the mountain. Her whole body was covered with scratches and a strong smell of snakes.¡± ¡°The next day, the Dragon family moved the graves and buried her in the sarcophagus. It¡¯s the grave that you saw. It¡¯s also the ce that was dug out when you were born.¡± My mother¡¯s voice was soft and quiet. But I felt a little chilly. ¡°Since you knew all this, why did you go back there when you were pregnant with me? You should know that they were going to bury me?¡± Chapter 15 Regrets of the Past Chapter 15 Regrets of the Past As soon as I asked, my mother just looked at me dimly. ¡°Aurora, I couldn¡¯t help it.¡± She opened the door and closed it heavily, but she didn¡¯t leave. She just leaned against the bathroom door and started crying quietly. My mother was famous for being tough. She would flip a table if she was upset from gambling. Since childhood, I¡¯ve never seen her cry. N?velDrama.Org ? content. However, this time, she was leaning against the bathroom door, crying quietly. I watched her shoulders tremble through the frosted ss, but I didn¡¯t know how tofort her. Turning on the faucet, I used cold water to wash the wounds under my feet from being stabbed by thorns and waited for the water to warm up slowly before I started washing my body. The sound of water covered up my mother¡¯s sobbing. While showering, Stowy whispered in my ear, ¡°Don¡¯t me your parents. They¡¯ve tried their best.¡± I took a shower and went out. My mother already calmed down. She handed me a towel to wipe my hair and took me downstairs. I spoke to the police as my mother instructed. ¡°It¡¯s summer recently and snakes and insects are everywhere. Yesterday David and his family of three were sent to the hospital because they were bitten by snakes.¡± The policeman put away his notes and looked at my dad. ¡°Don¡¯t sell snake liquor anymore.¡± My dad quickly handed him a cigarette. ¡°Of course, I won¡¯t dare do it in the future.¡± When the police left, my dad came back and looked at the empty shelves on both sides. He took out his phone and called my grandma. ¡°We found her. She¡¯s fine. Don¡¯t worry. You¡¯ll know when you see her tomorrow. Hmm, we¡¯re not going back to the vige for now. Okay!¡± He hung up the phone, then looked at me and said, ¡°Your uncle has cancer and is about to die, so he ran away from home. Your aunt will report his missing tomorrow.¡± ¡°As for your cousin Melissa, it¡¯s because the college entrance examination is too stressful. Since your uncle disappeared, she quarreled with her family and ran away too.¡± The scene of the square mouth swallowing my uncle and cousin shed before my eyes. But Melissa looked at me and smiled in the end. ording to my dad, he seemed to know what happened there. I took a deep breath. ¡°What about the vigers?¡± ¡°They won¡¯t say it.¡± My dad squeezed the cigarette andughed mockingly. ¡°They didn¡¯t say anything eighteen years ago. People died this time, so they definitely won¡¯t speak.¡± I suddenly felt that I didn¡¯t know my parents well. ¡°How did you guys escape? Didn¡¯t Uncle Peter detain you two?¡± Now I couldn¡¯t distinguish between the truth and lies. My dad looked a little hurt, but he confessed to me. When they were looking for David, they were detained by my uncle at that cave. But thanks to Mr. Han, this special man. He wanted to join the vigers to see the fun but was driven away. He stumbled across my parents and then rescued them. I didn¡¯t know why but I suddenly remembered what Mr. Han said when he met me. He said that he was not guarding the vige but guarding me. It seemed that there were some things that I needed to ask Mr. Han. ¡°Where is Pearl?¡± I remembered that Pearl was locked up in a cage. ¡°Your uncle didn¡¯t want to hurt her. He just wanted to dy Master Chang. Master Chang was the one who saved Pearl. I¡¯ve already talked to Master Chang. He won¡¯t hold us ountable.¡± My dad waved his hand at me. He said, ¡°You¡¯ve had a stressful day. Why don¡¯t you go to bed? Do you want to eat anything? I¡¯ll order you takeout.¡± He obviously didn¡¯t want me to ask again! I rubbed the wound on my arm. ¡°What is the Serpent Sarcophagus? Eighteen years ago, did you and mum agree with Uncle Peter to bury me in the sarcophagus? Why?¡± For generations, several daughters of the Dragon family have been buried there. Grandma knew it, and my parents must know it too. Otherwise, they wouldn¡¯t return to the vige to give birth to me. But it was obvious that Melissa was older than me. Why would my parents agree to rece her with me? Although my dad killed Orion in the end and didn¡¯t need to bury me, the root of the problem was nted since then. Besides, why did Uncle Peter determine to find the Serpent Sarcophagus? Did he want to bury himself or his father? When my dad heard my questions, pain shed across his eyes, and he stood up abruptly. He pointed at me and said, ¡°You are my child. I can treat you, however, I want to. I should¡¯ve just buried you when you were born. Otherwise, we wouldn¡¯t be in this predicament today!¡± Suddenly, I was shocked. I looked at my dad intently. My eyes were brimmed with tears. I opened my mouth and panted. I felt like I was choked when I wanted to say something. It turned out that in my dad¡¯s eyes, I was the one who caused all those things! Yes, it was true that if I was buried back then and someone else was buried now, the problem wouldn¡¯t exist! I panted heavily while something warm flowed down my face, but my eyes were still fixed on my dad. ¡°Then why didn¡¯t you bury me back then?¡± My dad looked at me as guilt and pain shed across his face and was about to say something¡ ¡°John!¡± My mother cried and pulled me up. She stared at my dad angrily and then took me upstairs right away. When I got to my room, my mother just said to me, ¡°This kind of thing happened in the vige. After several people escaped from there tonight, they died from snake poison. Your dad is also stressed out, so he talked nonsense. You should sleep early. Everything will be fine when you wake up.¡± ¡°The Serpent Sarcophagus is calling out to me.¡± Iy on the bed. I raised my wrist to show the ck Mamba Bracelet to my mother. ¡°Do you know Orion? Uncle Peter knew his name and even nailed his snake body down and hid it. Why?¡± My mother looked at the bracelet on my wrist silently and touched my face. ¡°Go to sleep.¡± Maybe because I was so tired from a long day or it was the first time that my mother was so intimate with me, I felt a little dazed and fell asleep. I heard the voice of my mother talking to a man in my dream. The voice sounded a bit like Stowy. I wanted to open my eyes to see, but my eyes seemed to have been covered. I couldn¡¯t open them no matter what, so I fell asleep again. Not long after I fell asleep, I felt hot all over as if something was itching in my bones and as if something was going to flow out. Even if I kicked off my quilt, I sweated excessively, my face started to get hot, and my legs felt itchy. The intimate scenes in theics that I¡¯ve read with Pearl secretly popped up in my head. I couldn¡¯t help but pull the quilt over and tuck it tightly between my legs. However, I still couldn¡¯t control it. I felt the itch deep in my bones. In a daze, I heard someone calling out to me again, ¡°Aurora, Aurora... Come on,e on!¡± There were also hissing sounds of a snake in that voice, which made my body tense up even more as if something was slowly flowing out between my legs. ¡°Don¡¯t listen.¡± A pair of slightly cold hands covered my ears. I had no idea when did Stowyy beside me. ¡°It¡¯s the Serpent Sarcophagus.¡± I looked at his face in a daze, slowly leaned over, and pressed my hot face to his, feeling a lot better. ¡°Aurora.¡± Stowy pulled me down and said in a deep voice, ¡°The Snake¡¯s Lust Poison is reacting in your body.¡± Orion said that this kind of poison would be more and more unbearable each day. ¡°Stowy, I feel so hot.¡± He wouldn¡¯t let me touch his face, so I pressed my face against his hand. Stowy sighed, ¡°Water won¡¯t work for this kind of poison. Put on your clothes and soak yourself in rice. Use the cool scent of the rice to relieve the difort.¡± I just felt weak all over. My legs kept twisting as if they couldn¡¯t wait to be two snake tails, but my arms hugged Stowy tightly. ¡°I feel very hot...¡± The Novel will be updated first on this website. Come back and continue reading tomorrow, everyone!
