    she was in for more trouble tonight. Her joy at being hired as a babysitter dampened the moment she heard Bobby''s voice.


    " Where have you been? " He said, the moment she came downstairs. He staggered, and Ava knew then that he was drunk. She rolled her eyes


    inwardly but replied anyway.


    "I came down the minute I heard your voice. Where''s Ben? " She looked behind him, in search of her second nightmare. Ben, her step dad was


    much worse than a beast. Her mother, Dawn had married Ben when she was 12. Her birth father, Davis, died in a car ident and things had not


    been easy for them. Dawn married Ben few yearster and things were going smoothly for them, except for her nasty stepbrother of course. Ben, at


    that time, was a rich businessman but all that crumbled when hispany went bankrupt. Bobby had med it all on her mother foring into their

    Things became worse as Ben lost all hopes of saving hispany and became a gambler. Dawn tried to keep the to keep the family together and


    worked all day to save up some money. But things go the way she nned because the moment Ben discovered the money, he stole everything and


    gambled without leaving a penny. Dawn died a yearter and Ava was left to live with her beast of a step father and her douchebag of a step brother.


    " Get the fuck out of my way! " Bobby retorted and pushed her. Avanded on her butt and groaned. She rubbed her sore ass, thanking her stars that


    he didn''t do much worse to her. She was used to them hitting her on many asions so this was nothing. She watched Bobby leave and sighed. She


    was battling with what was too much for a girl of 22 years. Her once creamy, white skin was pale and dry. She was a 5''2 feet brte with a pair of


    beautiful blue eyes. She was what guys termed as a figure ''8'' shape. She was a stunning beauty. She was truly beautiful and took after her mother.


    " Son of a bitch " she muttered, helping herself up. She went back to her room to prepare the necessary things for the interview the next day. She


    would dly ept any job that came her way. Being a babysitter was better than nothing, and as long as she would be paid, she was okay with it


    She loved kids so she was sure she would do fine. Most of all, she was d that finally, she would be able to gather up some money and run away to


    where Ben and Bobby could never find her.


    She woke up the next morning feeling excited and anxious. She wore one of her few best clothes, a ck knee-length gown and paired it with wedge


    sandals. Leaving her face bare, she squatted and brought out the box she hid under her bed. She opened the box, brought out few dors and put it


    in her bag. She locked her door and went downstairs. She was relieved when none of the beasts she lived with was awake yet.

    " Okay. Now, please go through these rules and regtions carefully ". He handed her the documents and sat back on his chair, waiting for her. Ava


    went through the documents thoroughly and took a pause after reading a particr one.


    "I''ll live here? ¡° She looked at him, stunned.


    "Yeah. And one more thing. you''ll be on probation for 2 months before we decide if you''ll work with us permanently ". He exhaled a breath.


    "Is there a problem? " He raised an eyebrow.


    "No no no it''s fine. I mean, thank you sir" She was happy that that finally, she would be leaving that hell hole she called a home. But how handful

    "I thought I made it clear you should call me Jack " Jack smiled.

    A kid of about 6 years came to Jack and he smiled, scooping him into his arms. The boy was cute and looked a lot like his father.

    " Hello there! I''m Ava . Your dad employed me to babysit you but I won''t " She shook her head vigorously for emphasis,ughing.

    "Yeah I think so" She smiled and ruffled his hair. She stood up and handed him gently to Jack who wasn''t too good with kids as he woke Liam up in

    "You can go home and pack up your things now. I spoke to my driver and he¡¯s outside waiting for you " Jack said, patting Liam on the back.-

    Ava thanked her stars when she got home and found it empty. She quickly went into her room and started packing her things. She left out the ones


    she wouldn''t need during her stay in the Kings¡¯ mansion. She threw her clothes in her traveling box in a hurry, that and other things. She handed them


    to Will, Jack''s driver who in turn put them in the car. Soon, she was done with everything. She took onest look at her room and closed it softly

    " Hey, are you okay? " Will asked as he looked at her through the rearview mirror. He heard her sniffed so he had looked to see if she was okay.

    On getting to the mansion, she began to settle in properly. She put away her things in her new bedroom, which was on the same floor with Alex''s

    he ate every bit of what she fed him.


    Ava began, " What did the doctor say about his.... his.... " She couldn''t find the right words to describe what was on the tip of her tongue and she


    couldn''t possibly called it mental state, not especially in front of his brother. Jack quite understood what she meant.


    He replied, " The doctor said it''s shock and it has to do with the part of his brain that formte words. Sure, he understands every word spoken but to


    voice out and reply is difficult for him. It''s temporary though. He''ll be back to normal very soon " He exhaled a long breath.


    Soon, Alex finished eating and Ava wiped his mouth with a napkin and made to get up but Alex drew her back, and she fell on his chest. Jack looked


    away quickly, with widened eyes. Ava tried to push Alex away but he was way too strong, therefore making her effort fruitless. She finally gave in and

    For a minute, she forgot Jack was still with them and patted Alex on the backfortingly. She could hear the '' thump thump '' of his heartbeat. It was


    not up to 24 hours that they met and she already had a soft spot for him.


    Jack coughed discreetly and without looking in their direction, said quietly, " You can help him with his clothes. Ava. I''ll be downstairs " and he was


    gone. She withdrew from the embrace slowly and covered her face with her hands, ashamed. What would Jack think of her now?


    "You okay? " She searched his face. He didn''t give any sign and she sighed.


    "l''ll just help you with your clothes, okay? " She stood and immediately, her eyes connected with the picture on the wall and she frowned. That was

    She walked over to his wardrobe, searching for a casual wear. She finally found one so she picked it out. Smiling, she turned back to him and waved

    She walked over to him and handed him the clothes. But instead of receiving them from her, he pulled her down and Ava squealed in surprise.

    type but Jack had said otherwise. Ava heaved a sigh, she wouldn''t be able to get on with her work if he kept being that way.

    face gave nothing away that he said something and Ava looked confused. Did she really hear him whispered or was she hearing things?

    " Definitely. Thanks " Ava replied, returning her smile. She went over to the counter and took one cake. She bit into it and closed her eyes to savor the


    taste.


    " Ohhh this is so good " she moaned. When she opened her eyes, Margaret was nowhere in sight. She felt a presence behind her and turned,


    thinking it was Margaret.

    her head scolded. She rolled her eyes inwardly and focused on Alex


    " Get dressed while I go downstairs to prepare you some food, okay? " She motioned for him to back off so she could go her way but he didn''t.


    Instead, he moved closer, leaving her no breathing space at all. She sighed, even though the guy couldn''t speak, he definitely heard her. There was


    no way she could get on with her work if he kept being so clingy.


    She ced her hands on his shoulders " Alex, I''ll leave you here so you can get dressed while I go downstairs to prepare you some food, will you do


    that? " She blinked her eyes twice, she had been told once that doing that made someone looked adorable and convincing so she hoped Alex would


    really oblige her. Her hopes crashed when he shook his head and she sighed, getting frustrated.


    "You won''t get dressed? " Again, he shook his head. She swept her fingers through her hair and closed her eyes briefly.


    " Then should I wait for you to get dressed so we can go down together to prepare your food? " She asked, a pleading expression written all over her


    face.


    She desperately wished he would say No because she knew the pace at which she would work wouldn''t be swift. But to her utter dismay, he nodded


    in affirmation, there was even an hint of smile on his lips! She huffed and rolled her eyes inwardly.


    Pasting a smile on her face, she said " Okay then, go on and have your bath while I wait here for you "

    Ava sighed " What do you want then? "

    Ava smiled confidently " Oh, he''ll eat every bit of the food, just do me the favor of putting more. Here, " She said and reached over the table to hand


    her an unused bowl


    Margaret shook her head andughed nervously " Are you sure about this? " She took a quick nce at Alex but his face remained expressionless "


    This could end up really bad, you know " She added nervously.


    Ava smiled reassuringly " Everything will be fine, Maggy. I promise "


    Maggy took onest look at Alex and sighed. Doom was about to befall them all but there was nothing she could do about it. Ava was too stubborn,


    foolishly brave if she may added.
