Wilbur knew from hearing Bertrand''s words that he was a smart man. Buck Town was a bloodthirsty ce, and no one would be willing to let their enemies live. If a battle was to break out and spiral out of control, both parties would be enemies and one of them would end up dead.
Wilbur''s dimensional ring had been imed with his blood, and so Bertrand knew
he would not be able to get the three hundred gold coins even he Wilbur was killed. The way to go was to ask Wilbur for two hundred gold coins first, which would at least get him some money. As for whether Wilbur lives or dies, that would depend on his behavior and how Bertrand was feeling.
"You are powerful," Wilbur said.
"Well, are you handing over those two hundred gold coins, then?"
Wilbur sneered coldly. "No."
Bertrand glowered at him. "What did you just say? Are you trying to humiliate me?"
Wilbur shook his head. "No, I''m not. If you had the power to defeat me, I''d cough up those gold coins without a problem. It''s just a shame that''s not going to happen, as you''re far too weak."
"You cocky bastard! I''m going to teach you a lesson!"
Bertrand''s body surged powerful energy aura that shredded all the clothes on his body. He gripped his long sword and charged toward Wilbur.
"You''re not getting a chance to even attack anymore."
Wilbur wielded the Magic Dragon de, swiping his fingers across the shiny edge as Bertrand cried out, "Rampant Sword of the Snow Wolf!"
This time, Wilbur attacked before Bertrand could even move. A ck sword aura shot out, splitting Bertrand''s attack into two before piercing right through his body.
Bertrand raised his sword to block the attack, and Wilbur''s sword aura cut Bertrand''s sword clean in half.
Bertrand''s body exploded the next second, smearing the icy surface with pieces of his bloody remains.
Wilbur sneered, then put the Magic Dragon de away as he said, "Learn to pick on someone your own size."
He turned to leave after that. A figure dressed in ck saw this from where he was hiding and turned to leave as well. Just then, the surrounding snow wolves detected the scent of blood and charged onto the ice before viciously feasting on Bertrand''s corpse.
Over in a secret chamber of the Reyne family, the figure in ck reported everything that happened to Babbit. He frowned in response, saying, "That means Wilbur has turned down the offer to leave Buck Town, then. He seems skilled enough. He just might be of use to me. You may leave now."
"Yes, Master."
Very soon, Dorrah, Grote, and Conrad arrived at the secret chamber. They smiled at Babbit, and Conrad asked, "Have you made your mind up, Mister Babbit? When are we leaving to kill Edmund?"
"It''s true that Edmund''s a pretty big pain to keep around, but I just received a letter from him that I think you should read first."
