The guard turned to roar at the noisy cultivators, "All of you shut up before I make you!"
The air fell silent, but Augheimer remained on one knee. "I won''t do it, sir."
Divan said, "Very well. What if you just have to get on both knees and call me ''Master''? How''s that?"
"I''m sorry, sir, but I''m not your ve."
"Hahaha! Why would you be on one knee if you weren''t? You''re doing this because you want to be a Reyne family ve, but here you are saying you''re no ve of mine? Are you trying to be funny here, Augheimer?"
Augheimer said coldly, "Sir, I''ll never be a ve to someone else. I''m on one knee to show my respect. It''s not a position I seek, but an opportunity to prove myself. I can help the Reyne family earn even more riches, and I''ll hardly take any of it."
Divan smirked. "You sure are confident. Fine, I''ll take you in since you did show me some respect. I hope you keep to your word."
"Don''t worry, Mister Divan," said Augheimer. "I don''t make promises I can''t keep."
Six months flew by in no time. One day, the head of the Reyne family, Babbit Reyne, was in the middle of cultivating in the Azure Dragon Lake when he realized that the energy aura in theke had decreased significantly. He had sent out his men to check the situation out, and they finally found where the underground stream was.
Babbit had his men seal the stream off, and then have the elites of the family stalk the grounds within a fifty-kilometer radius around the Azure Dragon Lake. Any cultivator spotted within the area was to be executed with no exception.
Within just one day, thousands of cultivators had been killed. Babbit had also finally realized the severity of the issue at hand. Just six months ago, Conrad''s men had sent Babbit a message saying that one of the Albert family''s talisman cultivators by the name of Keane had disappeared while investigating the energy leak in the ck Tortoise Lake.
Conrad suspected that Keane had encountered the cultivators who had benefited from the energy leak, and a battle had ensued. Keane ended up dead, which meant that those lucky cultivators were still out there.
Keane was a talisman cultivator, making him far more powerful than regr cultivators. On top of that, he had cultivated for three thousand years.
If these cultivators had been able to take Keane down with ease, that must have meant that they had more than three thousand years of cultivation in them. There were not many cultivators with such high cultivation in Buck Town, and everyone knew who those elite were.
The energy aura in Buck Town was far too weak, and most cultivators who got here would eventually choose to leave. These people would have collected enough gold coins within a few hundred years and be transported to another main town.
Aside from the Eight Great Families, there were no other cultivators who had cultivated in Buck Town for three thousand years. The thought made Babbit frown. Could there be a traitor among the Eight Great Families?
Babbit had a tremendous ego. He had mocked Conrad for the energy aura leak in the ck Tortoise Lake and could not afford to let news of the leak in the Azure Dragon Lake get out. Babbit decided that he was going to catch the bastard who had stolen the energy aura personally.
The energy leak in the Azure Dragon Lake had happened the same way it had with the ck Tortoise Lake-through an underground stream. Thus, all Babbit had to do was search the nearby rivers andkes, and he would be able to find the cultivator.
Babbit was doing this for his own pride and ego, and not for the prophecy made by the two dimensional guardians. Now that something like this has happened, Babbit decided that he had to get rid of the culprit himself.
The four major energy sources in Buck Town had always been kept secret from the public, and the culprit happened to have at least three thousand years of cultivation. Thus, Babbit believed there was a mole in the Eight Great Families.
