Vernon finished his boxing match. His face was swollen from getting beaten up, but he still shook Wilbur''s hand and thanked him.
Wilbur met up with Bill in the afternoon. The two of them talked for a while, and Bill''s girlfriend was brought up.
Bill smiled. "Heather likes the wealthy life. That''s just how she is, and it''s hardly going to change."
Wilbur said, "I really don''t know what you see in her."
Bill chuckled. "Her looks, and her personality. That''s what I like."
"You know that Heather only cares about money. Even if you did give her a big sum of money, she might leave you again eventually."
"I don''t care. I just want to be with her for a year, and I''ll be satisfied. Of course, it''d be great if she stayed longer."
Throughout the conversation, Wilbur continuously reminded Bill of the kind of person Heather was, but Bill seemed to have made his mind up. Despite not knowing what on earth Bill saw in her, Wilbur still arranged for someone to reach out to Heather in secret, paying her two million dors to stay by Bill''s side for the next ten years.
Heather agreed to it at once, and Bill was overjoyed to hear that she wanted to get back with him. That very night, the two of them met up in a hotel.
Wilbur then met up with Green, Eli, and Aite. The news of Wilbur helping the other four men had gone out, and Wilbur was pretty sure that he would be able to settle the problems of the other explorers with money. "Go on, tell me anything. I''ll help you out as long as it''s within my abilities."
Green, Eli, and Aite looked at each other. Green was the first to speak up, frowning as he said, "Mister Penn, we know you''ve done a lot for us... but we don''t know what''s your end goal in doing this. Are you trying to keep the treasure all to yourself?"
Wilbur replied, "You could say that, but the truth is that I just want to help you out of the troubles you''re now facing. I think you could live very good lives if you were willing to do that."
Green said, "Alright. I actually want to go back into the antique industry. I''ve sold all my antiques in search of the treasure, and I don''t have much money anymore."
"That''s it?" asked Wilbur.
Green nodded ruefully. "That''s it. The whole thing might sound simple to you, but it''s far from that to me. That''s just the way life is. More often than not you can''t go back once you''ve made a mistake."
"Well, how much capital do you need to get your business back on its feet?" "Three million dors."
"Sure. I''ll send it to your bank ount."
Now that he has solved Green''s problems, six of the eight explorers'' problems have been resolved. Only Eli and Aite were left, and Wilbur was rather satisfied with this. He turned to the two men and said, "It''s your turn now."
They exchanged nces, and then Eli said, "We don''t wish for anything. We just want to find that chest of gold and get our part of it."
Aite said, "There were eight of us in the original n, but now there are nine people with you joining us. Of course, we just want the two portions for us."
Eli said, "ording to our calctions, the gold in that chest should be worth around two hundred million. If we split that into nine and our captain gets an extra share, everyone else gets around twenty million dors each. That would be forty million for both of us."
Wilbur frowned. "Forty million?"
Aite nodded. "If you give us forty million dors, we''ll back out of this n altogether."
Wilbur snorted. "Well, have you considered that the gold might only be worth a few million dors? That''d be just a few hundred thousand for each of you split nine ways."
