Wilbur turned around, leaning down to say, "I''ll give you one more chance then, Captain Mitch. I hope you won''t try to trick me this time, or I''m never lending you the money."
"Of course."
Mitch''s chest heaved up and down. "Actually, out of the seven of them, I only knew why Vernon, Veda, Bill, and Kean persisted. As for Green, Eli, and Aite, I have no idea why they held on. I really don''t."
"That''s fine. Now, you just need to tell me why Vernon, Veda, Bill, and Green persisted, and I''ll send you a million dors right after. But our agreement doesn''t change in the slightest. Once we find the gold, we''re splitting it equally."
"Alright!"
Mitch nodded fervently and told Wilbur the reason why Vernon, Veda, Bill, and Kean persisted in adventuring.
It turned out that Vernon used to be a librarian and had five years of his bonus withheld from him by his superior. Vernon had worked hard and never made any mistakes on his job at the library, and the bonus was supposed to go into getting his grandson a nice car.
Not only had Vernon''s boss taken his bonus away, but Vernon found out that every single person around him was treating him differently. Vernon hated the change and hated this prank his life had yed on him. That was why he put all his energy into finding the treasure, hoping that he would get his cut of the gold and get rich to reim the power and life he was supposed to have.
Veda was a professional boxer. The love of his life broke up with him to marry a rich, fat guy. It was a traumatic experience for him, which made him give up the life he once had and choose to let loosepletely. With that, he lost his athletic figure and confidence that came with it.
Veda felt like hard work was not actually enough to get him what he wanted. Yes, money was the only way he could change his life. That was why Veda was after the treasure as well.
Bill''s situation was simr to Veda''s. His girlfriend had fallen in love with someone else as well. However, Bill''s girlfriend, Heather, was dumped after that too. Heather was not married to this day, and Bill had tried many times to win her back. He did not care about what had happened in the past and hoped Heather would take him back.
However, ever since leaving Bill, Heather had changedpletely. She only had eyes for rich people now and told Bill that she would only be with him if he could shower her with riches.
Kean''s reason was his mother''s hospitalization. He had always been a troublemaker from a young age, refusing to pay any attention in school or work. All he did was spend his money frivolously and hardly had any savings. This kept going on until a few years ago when his mother fell sick and needed a lot of money for surgery.
Kean''s father told him off for being a terrible son, and Kean had moved out in a fit of rage. Now all he was after was the treasure, as it would get him the money he needed for his mother''s surgery and his family could go back to the way it was.
Wilbur nodded after listening to everything. "Alright. Now that I know about your circumstances, I''ll send a million dors to your bank ount as per our agreement."
