AN UNPLEASANT CONVERSATION
“We’re back!” Margaret announces as she enters the kitchen. isor’s preparing his evening meal.
“Wee,” he greets and Margaret gives him a kiss on the cheek and sits down at the table.
“How did your vacation go?”
“Wonderful,” she says smiling.
“How many did you kill this time?”
“Unfortunately, only seven.”
“And Mary?”
“Fourteen. She always gets the best part! I only killed them because they were blocking my way. The action is always hers,” she crosses her arms and pouts, as if she were a spoiled child.
isor’sughter fills the entire kitchen Even after five years, Margaret isn’t content with the deaths she has already conquered. She always gets the easy part.
isor’s dressed only in a long-sleeved T-shirt and cotton pants, bare feet on the ground and his hair with his usual bun in the middle of his head.
Margaret has already changed clothes and now she’s wearing a tight dress and Mary, with light cloth pants and strappy blouse.
isor and Margaret no longer share a room, each has their own privacy, and Margaret takes advantage of that to meet male humans. Always using condoms, because a pregnancy is thest thing that she wants now. Derrick, her former love, was reassigned to another base, far from the one where she is now, but before that, he made it very clear that, if she was to be a vampire, he would never rte himself to a corpse.
“We’re just in time,” Mary says as she opens the refrigerator and picks up the blood bags.
“Yes,” isor puts his meat on the te and sits down at the table.
“How was your ride?” Margaret asks as Mary joins them at the table.
“Okay, I guess. Kind of boring. I could only torture two of them.”
“And did you get any answers?” Mary asks as she takes her first sip of blood.
The rescuested for three days, and both she and Margaret couldn’t feed since they left. isor too, in his three days trip to London didn’t eat anything.
“Yes. They’re trying to stop the witches from performing the rituals. They said it was difficult to defend themselves against the three races at the same time and that the genuine one does not want to go to war. For now, at least.”
“Did they tell you why?” Margaret asks curiously.
“The genuine alpha had a female offspring.”
“How…?” Margaret doesn’t believe what she heard.
“So it’s true then,” Mary says.
“Did you know?” isor looks at her with a raised eyebrow.
“I’ve heard rumors before, but the genuine territory is too dangerous. I only saw a raggedy girl once, but I didn’t think she was his daughter.”
“How long has this been going on?” Margaret asks.
“About seven years,” she says, shrugging.
“She’s probably an adult now.”
“Probably,” she says and takes another sip. “What was the goddess thinking?” she murmurs to herself, but everyone can hear.
“Since when do you believe in her?”
“Since I started raising a Lycanthrope cub.”
Silence. isor doesn’t like to remember that, whether he likes it or not, he is part of that race. And because of that, he never transformed again. The only supernatural powers he uses are his almost eternal life, his brute force, l and his long-distance vision.
“What if…”
isor didn’t stop eating, but his attention is on Mary’s words, who has her eyes fixed on the blood in her ss.
“I hope to meet your mate soon and….”
“I said I’d kill her if she even exists,” he says harshly.
“You can’t do that,” Mary looks at him.
“And why not? She’s no different from them, she’ll surely reject me and wish me dead just like everyone else,” Mary says.
“You can’t condemn everyone like that, Margaret.”
“And when did you see any of them being different? They’re all cruel, they’re all evil!”
“isor is not like them!”
“He grew up with us, she’ll be raised with them!”
“His mom wasn’t like them.”
“She just went against them to save her cub’s life, that doesn’t make her any different!”
“Ruby, her sister, she…”
“That was a suicide, she just wanted to be seen as a mediocre hero,” she spits.
“Enough!” isor screams and they look at him with wide eyes. He takes a deep breath and controls himself so as not to scream even more. isor knows the hatred Margaret feels, but he can’t bear to hear her talking like that about the women who gave their life to save him.
“Margaret,” he says looking her in the eye, “You have no right to talk about my mother like that, I understand how you feel, but at least I expected you to do for me what I do for you!”
“What are you talking about?”
“I hate the humans, but you don’t see me saying shit about them in front of you! I restrain myself to the best I can not to hurt you. And you know my mother and aunt are important to me. I don’t care how much you despise the Lycans, but never again, I’m serious Margaret, never again, say their names to offend them or I won’t answer for myself.”
Margaret’s lips trembled, isor, when younger, always made clear what he thought of the human race, but he stopped, neitherined nor argued any more; whether human or supernatural, they obeyed asmanded, and so their job was fulfilled.
And also she knew that in a fight, isor always gets the better of her.
“You’re right, I’m sorry for what I said, sorry,” she says and feels her eyes burn, Margaret hates feeling wrong. .
“And Mary, I know you only want what’s best for me. I also know about the history of the first Lycan’s punishment for mistreating his mate. But at this point in my life, I don’t give a shit. Just like Margaret said, my mate, if she even exists, is bound to be no different from the rest of them.”
“But…”
“But I’m sure she doesn’t even exist. Have you stopped to think about it? If it is the goddess who drives fate, what would she do for a rejected wolf? Surely, there’s no one intended for me and that’s fine by me.”Content property of N?velDra/ma.Org.
And then the conversation dies. Everyone goes back to eating in silence.
Over the years, Mary has been trying to change isor’s way of thinking because she wants him to be happy and to live his life with less resentment. And a mate could be his salvation. But just as she failed Margaret, she’s now seeing herself failing isor too.
isor’s case is moreplicated, mainly because they work for the government. And most likely, they wouldn’t ept a female. Unless, of course, isor refused to obey them. But as she saw today, isor himself will be the responsible for the murder of his mate.
I know you’re nothing to my kind, but all I ask is that you take care of isor. I hope Emerald was right, that you really picked him for something big. Because, all I can see is someone who wants the end of everyone of his race, even the end of his own mate, Mary thinks and prays to the goddess.
The red-eyed vampire doesn’t know, but the goddess is hearing everything. And, better yet, that the destinies of her chosen ones are about to cross.
