Chapter 18 Then Aren’t You Jealous?
Susan reached out to grab Ruby into her embrace, kissed her, and said, “Okay, then you take the
snacks to your room and I’ll speak to your godmother for a while.”
“Okay.” Ruby grip a bottle of yogurt in her mouth, grabbed the snacks, and skipped towards her room
with the snacks.
Once Ruby was inside her room, Susan sat on the sofa, sighed, and rxed.
“Here you go, have a drink.” Tina gave Susan a ss of freshly squeezed orange juice and said to her,
“Why are you here during office hours? This isn’t like you. Aren’t you worried that Edward will find out?”
“Edward went to meet his true love.” Susan took a sip of the juice, looked at Tina, and then sighed
again.
Tina looked at Susan with disdain, “Then aren’t you jealous?”
Susan rolled her eyes at Tina and took another sip of the juice, “What right do I have to be jealous? I
can’t even handle my own matters now.”
“What?” Tina frowned at Susan.
Susan appeared helpless, “Jarvis is Ruben’s son and Edward is Ruben’s younger brother. Do you
understand such a rtionship?” After Susan said this, she looked like she had lost all hope in life.
Tina was eating lychee and almost swallowed the pit. She quickly spitted it out and said to Susan, “Ha
ha ha, Susan, you… haha… then what do you intend to do?” Tina had not met Edward and seen his
character but she had heard of it.
As for Jarvis, Tina had seen and guessed that he must be an iplete version of Edward.
Susan looked helplessly at Tina, “What can I do?” After saying this, Susan’s phone rang and Susan
took a look at it. It was an unknown number and she quickly answered it.
Jarvis’s voice came over the phone, “Where are you?” He went straight to the point.
Susan didn’t know how to face Jarvis. She straight away ended the call without giving it a thought. She
thought that Jarvis would call again but he didn’t.

Just as Susan thought that Jarvis had given up, she received another call and this was from a
renowned private hospital which Susan had once considered sending her mother there. Unfortunately,
the costs were exorbitant and hence she didn’t.
She frowned and hesitated but answered the call, “Hello?”
Susan frowned as the caller said, “Hi, Ms. White, I’m Troy Morton of Grace Hospital.”
“How do you do? Mr. Morton?” Susan felt strange from Troy’s tone but answered very politely.
“Ms. White, a few years ago I noticed the results of your medical thesis. May I ask where are you
working now? Are you interested in working at our hospital?”
What he said shocked Susan. She had always wanted to work at a hospital again but previously all the
hospitals had rejected her due to the rumors spread by Kendra.
She had continued to study over these years except that she had never harbored the hope of working
in a hospital again.
“Did… did you make a mistake?” Susan couldn’t believe what she just heard and asked but Mr. Morton
sounded very sincere, “No, I’m sure of this. I would like to invite you to work at my hospital. I had
previously seen some thesis by you and you have some interesting views on the heart and brain.”
Once he said these, Susan was absolutely dumbfounded.

“I…” Of course, she was willing! Susan could never dream of having such an opportunity!
“Are you avable? You cane to our hospital for a visit first.”
“Okay.” Mr. Morton’s reputation was very good in the medical field and he was very senior in age. Even
if it wasn’t for work, she should visit him out of respect.
After Susan ended the call, she looked at Tina nervously.
“What happened?” Tina could see that Susan was nervous and asked. Susan rted to Tina what had
just happened and Tina was particrly excited.
“Go! Haven’t you always wanted such an opportunity? Go go go!” Tina immediately encouraged her.
Susan wanted to mention her doubts but Tina already pushed Susan to get up, “If you want to enter
this field again, then this is the best opportunity. Hurry up, I’ll call for the babysitter toe over to look
after Ruby. I’ll go with you.”
Tina noticed Susan’s hesitation and said, “What are you waiting for? Let’s go. What will you survive on
after your divorce? If Edward really has a true love, once you divorce do you think that you can
continue to work as his secretary?”
Of course not. Tina was right. Susan already knew that she would not be anywhere close to Edward
after the divorce. After Tina’s reminder, she knew for sure that she couldn’t remain as his secretary. If
that was the case, she could only go to work at a smallpany and in that case, she will not be able
to provide for Ruby and herself.
Susan looked at Tina and said, “Okay, you don’t have to go with me, I’ll go by myself.” After saying this,
Susan said farewell to Tina and left.
She took a taxi directly to the Grace Hospital and then contacted Mr. Morton. It was Mr. Morton who
came out personally to receive Susan.
Susan went with Mr. Morton to his office to chat. Susan did not have any experience with doing hospital
rounds to assess patients and so he suggested for her to start at the outpatient ward and also do some
rounds assessing the patients. Her sry was higher than those in the same field but was ording to
the norm at the Grace Hospital.
Mr. Morton seemed to be very professional and impressed with Susan and she agreed to work at the
hospital. This had definitely addressed her immediate concerns especially when she was about to
divorce Edward and needed to look for another job.
Except that Susan could not start immediately at the Grace Hospital. She needed to exin to Edward
and ease the transition. Hence, Susan set the date ofmencement to be a fortnightter while she
used this time to resign from Edward’spany.
Susan gave Edward a call when she left Grace Hospital.
Edward sounded casual, “What’s the matter?”
“Where are you, is it convenient for me to look for you?”
“I’m in the office.” Edward hung up the call after telling Susan where he was.
Susan felt that if Edward was at his office, then he should be alone and Vanessa shouldn’t be there.
However, once Susan arrived at his office, she saw Vanessa once she opened the door.
