    Chapter 20: Wedding Rings

After he finished, Rnd red at her coldly and turned to leave.

Alvera stopped him and asked, "Tell me the password."

"The first three numbers on the card."

Alvera watched as he drove away, smiling speechlessly.

So... a free lunch fell from the sky?

She put the books in the back seat of the car and drove away.

She went to the bank and found out that the card had unlimited credit, so she immediately withdrew

    1,010,000 dors from it.

    ...

She did not go home directly after withdrawing the money. Instead, she met with Samuel and gave him

the money, only leaving 10,000 dors for herself.

By the time she got home, night had already fallen.

After parking the car, she was attracted by the glow of the sunset over the horizon and walked over to

    the beach.

She took off her shoes and sat on the soft sand, enjoying the beautiful scenery.

A whileter, Rnd''s voice suddenly came from behind her.

"How much longer are you nning to sit here?" He asked.

Startled, Alvera turned around. "Mr. Francois? Why are you here?"

Rnd''s expression was dark and stormy. "What do you think?"

    ...

"I don''t know," Alvera answered honestly.

"I''ll give you another chance to think about it," he said. "If you still can''t remember what you did wrong, I

    can help you recall it."

Alvera looked at his tensed expression and knew that he was not lying.

She pursed her lips in thought. "Is this because I took your money this afternoon?"

"See, you know why I''m here," Rnd jeered.

Alvera smiled and said, "Mr. Francois, you were the one who told me to use the money in the card and

not use another man''s money because it''s an insult to you. Why are you so angry now that I actually

took some pocket money from the card?"

"I''ve never seen a woman who needs 1,01,000 dors as pocket money," he replied angrily. "What are

you going to spend that much money on?"

Alvera pouted. "Do I really have to tell you what I''m spending it on?"

"Do you really think I''m going to throw money into a bottomless pit?"

"I''m not going to tell you where the money went," she replied, "But don''t worry, I''m not taking your

money for free. I''ll give you something else in exchange."

    "In exchange?"

She opened her bag and took out an intricately embroidered pouch.

From it, she took out two rings handed him therger one. "Here, this is for you."

    ...

Rnd did not take the ring. He just stared at it without moving.

Alvera smiled. "Don''t worry, there''s nothing hidden in the ring. This is a family heirloom passed down

from my great-grandmother, dating back to the 1910s."

She stood up, took his left hand, and slipped the ring onto his ring finger.

Rnd was distracted for a moment by her gentle gesture.

"Wow, that''s amazing, you have the same ring size as my great-grandfather," she eximed.

"So this silver ring is in exchange for my one million dors?" Rnd asked.

"Mr. Francois, listen to yourself," Alvera said cheekily. "By rights, with your current status, I should be

getting a huge diamond ring for our wedding. I heard that diamond rings cost well above ten million

dors, so I''m saving you that cost. We''ll just use this as our wedding ring."

    "You''re eloquent."

Alvera smiled and did not continue to bicker with him.

She took out another smaller ring and put it on her ring finger.

"Mr. Francois, look, they''re a set. It''s only right that a married couple has matching rings. We should

    Married couple...

He lowered his eyes to look at her. The smile on her face was dazzlingly beautiful.

"Mr. Francois, don''t lose your ring. It''s very important to me," Alvera continued.

Her mother once said that the rings were magical. The two generations who had worn them before her

were happily married and loved each other until the end of their lives.

Sadly, she did not meet the right person when she was alive, so she never got the chance to give the

    ring away.

And Alvera? She will never have a lover in her life anyway, so it did not matter who she gave the ring

    to.

Rnd looked down at the ring on his hand. Without saying a word, he turned around and walked back

    towards the vi.

Alvera pressed her lips together in a wry smile. "Bye, Mr. Francois. Drive safe."

Rnd looked back at her and said, "Who said I''m leaving? I''m sleeping here tonight."

Alvera froze. "Sleeping here?" she thought.

Rnd smiled wickedly and continued, "You just said we shouldplete the act. You escapedst

time, but do you think you can escape this time?"
