    The cheque was cashed, the money was in my hand bag and I felt ecstatic. Aside from the asional allowances, this was my first real pay from Milner Insurance. If I felt this happy now, how would it be when I got my sry? Being an adult wasn’t so hard after all. Took me only about ten minutes to get this precious award and the money that came with it. It was so easy to win and I didn’t have to work as hard as everyone might think. I mean everyone except Maya and Harry.  You couldn’t fool those two and it was like their minds worked in the same way.     It was unfortunate that she had rejected Harry, but we were not yet about to give up. Zane had left office with her just like he had done with me. She probably thought there was a chance. He had started avoiding me, and I knew that she was going to experience that soon. Zane was a jerk, and I loved jerks. Chasing them was exhrating and fun. I hated being with men who were all over me because I loved challenges. Getting Zane and Maya’s job were the two things I wanted most and I knew it was going to be fun taking them away from her.


    Entering a mall, I tried on some nice clothes and shoes. For the first time in my life, I didn’t care how much I spent, didn’t have to worry about the price of every item. After all, I would be getting my sry soon. My dreams of livingrge were close.


    The HR manager, Kyle Miller and Harlow had refused to fire Maya unless I presented a valid reason to them. It was so hard to find something bad against Maya. The woman was like a saint, she never seemed to do anything wrong. I had tried to eavesdrop but never heard her say anything against thepany or its employees. Now I understood why everyone seemed to think she was perfect. But I didn’t believe that. No one was perfect. There had to be something I could use against her.


    When I got to the dpidated building I lived in, Mane was waiting. He was leaning against the wall while scrolling through his phone. He was wearing that stupid pair of jeans he liked so much.


    “Hey,” I said, putting my shopping bags on the ground to open the door. Mane was a big time crook but I loved having him on my side.


    “Got paid?” he nced at the bags. I could see the greediness in his eyes. The man loved money, even more than I did, and that was saying something.


    “I don’t owe you anything,” I made it clear to him. If he thought that by working at a bigpany I’d be like rich people and let myself be exploited, he was on the wrong side of the coffin.


    “You will after you see what I’m about to show you,” he said as we entered my tiny room.


    “I’m not sure about that,” I rolled my eyes. “What do you have?”


    “Something that will interest you.”


    “How much will it cost me?” I asked and he gave me an amount.


    “That’s too much. Besides, I haven’t got my sry but I have some I got with my award. Show me what you have and we’ll see about the moneyter.”


    He pulled out a cellphone from his pocket. “Remember when you told me Maya and Harry were seeing each other on Wednesdays?”


    “Yeah but Harry didn’t leave on the next Wednesday so they were probably not going to the same ce.”


    “That’s true.”


    “So what? Even if they were, it’s not something illegal. Get to the point.”


    “I followed her on the next Wednesday and found out what she was up to.” He showed me an image on his phone. It was one of Maya standing in front of a ck board. There were children in the room, some looking at her and others focusing on some equipment on their desks.


    “Maya is a teacher?” I asked, narrowing my eyes.


    “She is,” he gave a satisfied nod.


    “What?”


    “She has another job as a teacher at Saint Felicity’s center for blind children.”


    I remembered a use in my contract saying I couldn’t hold another job of any kind. I believed the same applied to other employees as well.


    “Oh Mane. I knew you weren’t aplete idiot. Send me the photo now.”


    “Wait, calm down. Money first.”


    “I’ll get paid on Friday,” I told him. “I barely have any money left. Besides, that photo won’t help you if I don’t take it.”


    “Not if I sell it to Maya.” He smirked, or at least tried to. I hope he never did it again because smirking wasn’t for people like him.


    “Don’t dare mention her name here again,” I yelled at him. “I’ll work on it. I’ll even give you extra. If I be a junior actuarial officer, I’ll be supporting you. Don’t ever forget that friendship is more important than all the money in the world.”


    “Whatever,” he said, turning the television on.


    “I wish I knew I was going to receive such great news,” I told my friend Mane. “I’d have bought some wine.”


    My day just turned out better than I could ever have imagined even in my wildest dreams. Now I had a solution to all my problems. Maya was getting out of Milner’s and maybe I’d be considered for her position since we studied the same course. The problem was that I didn’t have nearly as much work experience as she did. I didn’t need to worry about anything because Kyle would have to make sure no one else got hired for a job I could do.


    My life was about to change and I couldn’t wait for the next day toe. I didn’t care if Harry was going to be mad. If I got what I wanted, he could go to hell. He had nothing on me anyway.
