Chapter 27: twenty seven


    the store was just a block away so I didn''t take my car, a nice walk gave me some time to explore my


    surroundings. as it was just 6 in the evening, all the children were ying, some people were walking


    their dog which reminded me to do the same tomorrow morning. I grab a trolley and explore my


    options, it also reminded me to get some groceries as well. I put everything I could carry back with me


    on foot and took two bottles of virgin vodka to checkout. as I neared my apartmentplex, I see the


    pizza delivery boy waiting outside the main door, I had to buzz him in.


    "Hey, is that for apartment 312?" I ask the pizza boy, he stared at me for a second like in a trance but

    snapped out before checking the order details, nodded holding out the pizza but hesitated due to too


    many bags in my hands. "do you mind helping me carry the pizza to my apartment?" I ask politely.


    "Yeah, sure," he said I murmured thanks and buzzed us both in, we spoke in the elevator till we


    reached my floor. he told me his name was ke and he was still in high school and was helping his


    uncle with a part-time job. when we got out of the elevator there was someone at my door waiting.


    "Can I help you?" I asked the person whose back was towards me, he turned around he was Adrian.


    he looked at ke in question but smiled when we approached him


    "I was just checking in because you didn''t show up at work today," he smiled " here let me get that," he


    pulled the groceries bag out of my hands and looked at ke


    "Oh, this is ke he is here to deliver my pizza," I said taking therge pizza box from his hands,


    Adrian put his hand in his pocket to pull out the cash when I told him I''ve already paid, I tipped ke


    graciously that brought a huge smile on his face, ke left after that and I let Adrian into my house.


    "did you had dinner?" I asked him while separating vodka bottles from the groceries, he looked at the

    "Anything special today?" he asked helping me store the vegetables into the fridge


    "Yeah, something like that," and yes, it was. today was special because I have realized my worth and


    it''s time to move on from my old andplicated life


    "Can I ask something? If you don''t mind?" He asked while helping me put away the grocery


    I hummed in response, my main focus was the sexy looking bottle of vodka that had my name written


    on it.


    "What happened today? You left urgently but never came back?" His question was careful he was


    being careful not trying to trigger something.


    I sighed walking towards the living with a couple of sses in hand, I sat on the couch opened the


    pizza box, served myself a ss of neat vodka, and poured him one as well. I gestured him to sit


    "during and ill tell you" he smiled relieved because I took too much time to answer


    "So?" He asked while eating the delicious, pizza and sipping the strong vodka, and by the look on his


    face, this was not his drink.


    "Massimo, previously known as Dimitri has not only taken over his grandfather''spany but had also


    brought the price mansion," I said watching some movie that was ying on my t.v


    He choked on his drink and looked at me with wide eyes.


    "That''s not all, he kicked out his grandparents as well, I don''t know how does this, I mean what kind of


    a person would kick out the people who took care of you when you had no one out of their own house,"


    I shake my head in disappointment. Adrian doesn''t say anything


    "I mean they are good people, they took him in when his parents died, they lost their son too but they


    didn''t let thate between them, they raise him and I don''t know why this is bothering me but its true


    that I feel bad for them," as my words slurred I knew I was too drunk


    Adrian let me talk he knew I was frustrated and needed to let out some steam. I needed this out of my


    system


    "I would do anything to have a moment with my father, you know I miss him so much. He took care of


    me, he trained me as he would a son, he grounded me when I fought my first fight with a boy in middle


    school but also brought me secret choctes because I had a fight and broke the boy''s nose, he told


    me I had a mean right hook" I chuckled sadly remembering my father, " he was in the army, and he


    never told anyone but we all knew he wanted a son, but he loves me and my sister the same, but when


    I started showing my interest in fights he encouraged to me to participate in all kinds of fights, I think he


    was the proudest when I had flipped him over at the age of sixteen " I smiled not realizing the tears


    leaking from my eyes.


    "I loved him Adrian and I see him in Robert, not my father but as an elder who will be with you in the


    times of need. And I hate that this is happening to an older couple " I cry not falling apart crying but like


    I needed this off my chest type of a cry.


    "God! I''m sorry for being a mess" I apologize for crying out


    He ces his arm on my shoulder and smiled sadly "you are very brave Erika, the strongest woman I


    know" he smiled


    And I returned his smile "enough with this sad shit, I need to get over this sloppy moment " I try


    cheering the atmosphere a little.


    "then, how about some horror movies," he said excitedly and Iughed "bring it on," I hope my life


    takes a right turn from now on.
