Chapter 52 A Disarming Smile
As always, Mia’s tears disarmed Ethan Adams.
“All my bad, Mia. No more tears.” Ethan delivered a tissue on bedside to wipe her face.
Mia shunned his hand: “No need tofort me. Will you keep it from Liam?”
Ethan paused. What the hell was this about? Cheating on Liam? A love affair with the woman of his
dearest friend?
“Let’s tell Liam the true, shall we? I will take all the responsibilities!” He croaked.
“Take all the responsibilities? What are you talking about? It was a mistake! Let’s forget it, okay?”
Mia did not expect Ethan would be so stubborn.
A lengthy, embarrassing silence.
It took a while for Ethan to squeeze out the promise through his nerves: “Okay. If you insist. Mia. I give
you my words.”
Mia gave him a tearful smile: “Thank you. Ethan! I know you will be nice to me.”
Ethan rub his face weakly: “Get up, I will send you home.”
Emma agreed to offer her room.
“You can live here whenever you need. My roommates are all easy-going. Call me any time!”
Dear Emma! Generous as always! Her heartyugh gave Amber a lift in the down in the dumps.
“When will you return? I miss you!” She had so much to share with Emma, the only one she could turn
to.
“Half a yearter. Oh, I almost forget. Have you told Liam about your moving out?”
“Not yet. My phone ran out of power yesterday. It just started charging.” Damn Liam! The mention of his
name racked her nerves.
“Amber, I don’t think he will relish your n—a short-time stay might be fine, but not a long-term option.
The paparazzi will find out your trick! Liam signed the agreement to save his reputation and he will not
let you get away with it after paying a fortune to cure your sister.”
“I will figure it outter. Enough of him or his date. Call youter. Bye!”
Amber greeted Emma’s roommates and headed towards the library to meet Jack Cavendish who
would return her the rare book.
On her way, a message popped up. It came from Oliver Stein.
“Have a good rest. Don’t be too hard on yourself.”
He knew her so well: Driven as always, Amber would not rest one day more. So what?
Amber deleted the message directly.
One deception and one rescue. Great! They made it even.
“Hi, Amber! How providential!”
In the winter morning glow, a handsome, ck-haired big boy approached her in a big, broad grin.

“Hello! Jack!” Amber waved at him.
“Have some hot coffee?” Jack pointed at the paper bag. Amber noticed there were two cups inside.
“Special offer today—buy one get one free. Be my guest.”
Awkward to reject his offer, Amber took the coffee: “Thanks!”
Wow, it was delicious, obviously better than Starbucks, the best brand she could afford. She nced at
the cup—a logo she had never seen before.
That was very profligate of him, a financially strapped boy, to buy such fine coffee. Amber felt a little bit
guilty for this ungratefulint while enjoying his coffee.
When Jack looked up towards her, Amber pulled a big smile at him.
A slim, fair-skinned young woman, peeked at Jack with a cloudy gaze through longshes steamed by
hot coffee. Suddenly, she smiled a dazzling, unguarded, natural, all-teeth-showing, glorious smile at
him. Jeez, it''s disarming.
Jack’s heart lurched at this moment.
At the corner of the teaching building, a man in ck took several pictures of Amber and
Jack.
