Chapter 13 This Is Fine

    Chapter 13 This Is Fine

After all the preparations had been made, Liam sent Abby on his private jet to the hospital in Country

    M. Initially, Amber had nned to apany Abby, but this proposal of hers was coldly rejected by

    Liam.

His exnation was reasonable. She had to stay here and act her part as his fiancée, portraying the

two of them as a loving and sweet couple to the public.

After Abby''s departure, Amber was left alone, feeling as dested as the empty room.

The sisters had relied on each other ever since they were little, and the thought of how Abby had really

gone off to a foreign country pained her.

Now that Emma had also gone for an internship abroad, Amber had no one to have heart-to-heart talks

with. She made herself a bowl of instant noodles but had no appetite to finish it. Just as she was about

to pour away the rest of her noodles, Liam called.

Listlessly, she picked up the call.

“Are you at home? I’m on my way to fetch you. Have you finished packing?” His voice was as

    monotonous as ever.

    “Fetch me?” Amber was puzzled.

Liam paused for a moment before he continued, “You are moving into my condominium. It was clearly

written in the sixth term of the contract. You haven’t forgotten about this, right?”

“Oh…” Amber tried her best to conceal the reluctance in her voice as she asked, “It’s just an

engagement, there’s no need for us to live together, right?”

Was there a need to be so thorough if they were both just acting?

"The paparazzi are always waiting to get the scoop around my neighborhood. I don''t have time to

pretend to go on dates with you every day." Liam''s voice was as monotonous as ever, but Amber was

quick to notice that he was getting impatient.

“Alright.” She was the type of person who would keep her word. Since she had signed the contract, she

had no choice but to go.

Liam arrived shortly and found Amber with only a piece of small luggage in her hand. He wanted to say

something but ultimately decided to remain silent.

Amber knew what he wanted to say. What would it be other than “Is that all you’re bringing?”?

But he chose to keep quiet. She could clearly notice the distance he deliberately put between them.

Then again, she wasn’tining. This was fine for her. Their rtionship was purely in the form of a

contract—a mutual contract where both parties would get what they needed. After they hadpleted

the contract, they would go their separate ways. Nobody owed anyone anything. It was perfectly fine.

Amber grabbed her luggage and said, “Let’s go!”

Liam hesitated for a moment before he extended his arm and offered, “Let me help.”

As always, he was a gentleman.

With an elegant smile, Amber refused, “Thanks, but it’s okay. I’m fine on my own.”

Liam''s outstretched hand was left hanging in the air but he swiftly and calmly retracted it. He was as

His condominium was enormous. It was a penthouse in a luxurious neighborhood, withrge French

windows and a spacious patio. There was also a small garden with a canopy over it on the upper floor.

Amber’s room was right beside the kitchen. She was quite pleased with this arrangement as her room

was separated from Liam’s with the study room, the living room, the house theatre, and the gym

sandwiched in between. If she made some effort to avoid bumping into him, the probability of meeting

him by chance would be quite low although they were living under the same roof.

Amber led a very disciplined lifestyle. She hadpleted her studies and all that was left were the

procedures needed to leave school after the next day’s dissertation defense. Every morning, she would

call Abby for a half-an-hour video chat andter write her thesis. She would then go for her part-time

job in the afternoon. At night, she would call Abby to chat for a short while before she took a shower

    and went to bed.

She had never seen Liam again ever since she had started living at his ce.

On a few asions when she stayed upte, she would hear the faint door opening sounds made by

    Liam.

Amber would then feel restless. She would wait until no more noises could be heard in the house and

confirmed that her door was locked before she could go to sleep.

Two weekster, one night when Amber was woken up by thirst, she didn''t want to get up, but it got to

a point where she couldn''t bear it anymore, so she went to the kitchen in her pajamas to pour some

    water.

She opened the door softly and stood there listening for a while, to make sure Liam was fast asleep in

his own room, before she tip-toed her way to the kitchen.

The moon is bright. Being afraid that she might woke Liam, Amber didn''t turn off the light.

When she was about to go back after drinking up two sses of water, she heard the door to the living

    room was opened.
