Chapter 1862
Jonathan stated quite bluntly, “Mr. Moses, she’s not a good fit for you or ourpany. All she’s good for is being the ything of
her patrons. You’d better forget about her.”
Keh felt the same way. “He’s right, you know.”
Moses frowned sullenly. He was sure that Caprice was nothing like they were making her out to be. Why were they so
vehemently against her?
Was he wrong about Caprice?
Only several meters behind the thicket of trees was a small pathway hidden from view.
The path was parallel to the main road leading into Carter Tech City. It led up to a separate gate that provided entry into the city.
Only the employees at Carter Tech City were aware of the existence of the pathway.Content ? provided by N?velDrama.Org.
Heather hid behind the thick bushes and quietly stalked Moses, Keh, and Jonathan. She listened in on their conversation.
She had been lurking here ever since Caprice joined their group.
It came as a surprise for her to see Caprice here at all. It turned out that she had been in Westchester all this time. It was
especially interesting to find out that she had onlysted for a day at her new job.
As if that was not bad enough, a group ofmon businessmen was ridiculing her and insinuating that she was a gold digger.
What a worthless girl.
Heather scoffed before turning down the other end of the path to go outside.
“Miss Heather, where are you going? There’s a big crowd gathered outside already,” her assistant hurriedly followed her and
asked her in a concerned voice.
She red at her assistant with unwarranted contempt. “Who are you to decide where | can or cannot go?”
IE
The assistant exined sheepishly, “That’s not what | meant. | was just worried about something happening to you.”
Heather ignored her exnation and hissed sharply, “Stop following me.”
Left without a choice, her assistant let her be.
She waded through the woods and joined the crowd outside, appearing to be on the lookout for something.
There was roughly half an hour to go before the gates of Carter Tech City would open.
Caprice and Freya went to another section of the edge of the woods. They managed to find a remote section where they could
sit without being bothered.
Freya was still fuming with rage.
Caprice mimicked what her father would usually do to coax her mother when she was upset. She gently patted Freya’s head.
“Frey, it''s not worth getting upset because of someone like Keh.”
Freya grimaced, a pool of tears quickly welling up in her eyes. “Caprice, | just don’t understand. I''ve earned my money with my
blood, sweat, and tears. Why would they keep mocking me like that? They make it sound as if the money | made is dirty.”
“It''s just a terrible misunderstanding.” Caprice could sense that those men never took them seriously the entire time.
Freya stated sharply, “You only quit the job because of what happened at Elysian House! It looked like they conveniently forgot
that you were the one who helped them find an investor. They have no reason to disrespect you like that!”
Caprice muttered weakly, “Maybe it’s because | don’t have much to offer skill-wise.”
Freya frowned. “Caprice, you might not be very experienced now, but don’t forget that you have your parents’ support. You still
have a bright future ahead of you, so don’t listen to those arrogant men.”
Although Caprice never spoke about her family, Freya had a vague hint that she came from a well- off family based on her brief
meeting with her parents thest time.
“I''m fine.” Caprice was not bothered by what Keh and Jonathan said about her as she took pride in being herself. She smiled
and quipped, “You should take the advice you give me and stop listening to what they’re saying about you.”
Freya lowered her head to the ground. “What they''re saying about me is the same thing as what the people at the university are
saying about me. | just don’t understand why it seems like the whole world is against me.”
Caprice searched for the right thing to say, “My mother told me that when she was young, she had to work in a nightclub. She
had a lot of enemies who were jealous of her sess and started rumors about how she was using her beauty to seduce
customers. Her best friend was the only one who was on her side.

“She kept her head down and focused on her job. Later on, she managed to help a certain corporation facing bankruptcy turn the
situation around and was quickly promoted to an executive position. Ever since then, nobody could ever use her of being just
a pretty little thing to look at. Even if they didn’t want to, they had to admit that she was far more capable than any of them.”
Ss
Freya was amused by the story, and there was a sparkle in her eyes, “Caprice, your mother sounds Tike an amazing woman.”
Caprice beamed with pride. “Frey, what I’m trying to say is that if you can’t ignore their ignorantments, you have to continue
to improve yourself until you reach a level far above theirs. By that point, you wouldn’t ever have to deal with people like them
anymore.”
