Roseanne figured if she didn''t find an excuse to drag Carlson away, he would spend the entire day in theb.
Followed by another all-nighter.
Did he really think he was Superman?
He had been awake for two days, slept for just a few hours, hadn''t eaten anything, and yet he was ready to get right back to work? The thought of his reckless behavior made her skin crawl.
She knew Carlson was a hard worker, but she never imagined he would push himself this hard. He was practically gambling with his health!
"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and get your things. We''ll wait for you at the door."
With that, she left with Owen, leaving Carlson standing there, dazed and confused.
Wait...
Lunch?
At her house?
Carlson didn''t keep Roseanne and Owen waiting long. He was ready in five minutes.
Getting ready really just meant washing his face and changing out of hisb coat. He didn''t even bother to fix his hair, appearing with it slightly messy. It wasn''t too bad, though; an uninformed observer might have thought it was a deliberately styled look.
It really proved the old saying-with a handsome face, even a bird''s nest on your head can look good.
Still in a daze, Carlson got into the passenger seat of Roseanne''s car.
Owen raised an eyebrow at him before opening his own car door.
Carlson thought, Wait, shouldn''t I be riding in the professor''s car?
Thirty minutester, the car came to a stop.
Carlson had nearly dozed off. He dazedly followed Roseanne inside and... was instantly jolted awake by the sight of the house.
This... was huge.
He couldn''t quite ce the style of the decor, but it was stunning, and there was a massive garden. As they walked through it, he noticed a vegetable patch in the distance, and beyond that, even a greenhouse!
"Rose... Roseanne, aren''t we here for lunch?"
Why did it feel like they were touring a luxury estate?
Before he could get an answer, the grandmother, who had heard the car''s engine,
came out to greet them with a smile. “Anne, you''re here!"
Then, she looked at Owen and Carlson. She was already familiar with Owen, so her gaze lingered more on Carlson.
Roseanne made the introductions.
Carlson shyly greeted her, "Hello, ma''am. S-sorry for the intrusion."
Realizing he was a guest at Roseanne''s home, it btedly dawned on him that he hade empty-handed, without even a small gift of fruit or a gift box. It was so impolite!
"Hello, dear. It''s no intrusion at all," the old woman said with a warm smile, ushering them inside.
In the foyer, she got out slippers and offered to hang up their coats. But neither Owen nor Carlson would let an elder do that for them and handled it themselves.
Carlson froze for a moment when he saw the slippers, quietly asking the old woman if she had any shoe covers.
Geneva immediately said that slippers were much morefortable than shoe covers. Fearing he might be worried they had been worn by others, she quickly exined that they were new and very clean.
Carlson grew even more flustered,
QU
saying that wasn''t what he meant. In his world, slippers were for family. while guests should wear shoe. covers. But the old woman clearly didn''t see it that way. She enthusiastically told him to put them on and led him to the living room. “.....There''s fruit and snacks here. Help yourself to whatever you like. Please, don''t be polite!"
“Okay, okay, please don''t worry about me. I can help myself."
“Alright! You all make yourselvesfortable. I''m just going to check on things in the kitchen. Lunch will be ready soon."
For today''s meal, the old woman
had sent her driver to an imported goods supermarket early in the morning and had taken two maids with her to help carry everything buying arge amount of fresh meat, produce, and seafood. Her husband had joked that she looked like she wanted to bring the entire supermarket home.
Soon, the dishes were all ready.
Her husband and she called everyone to the table. She then pointed to a maid. “Go
to the study and call Corley down for lunch."
"Yes, ma''am."
A momentter, Corley came downstairs. He had heard the car arrive earlier, but he was in the middle of an international video conference and couldn''t end it abruptly, so he had to patiently see it through.
