Chapter 772

As for Murray, seeing the look on the other guy''s face, it was pretty clear he was admitting defeat.

Frustrated, Murray pped his hand against the steering wheel, and the horn red through the silent night.

From the apartment above, someone shouted down-

"For crying out loud, it''s the middle of the night! What the hell''s your problem?!"

And just like that, a bucket of water came sshing down, drenching the roof of Murray''s car.

Meanwhile, Corley had already turned on his heel and was striding away, leaving the scene behind.

Owen Reynolds, standing on his balcony, had witnessed everything unfold below him, including Corley walking Roseanne up to her building.

The bitter cold wind, carrying snow and frost, bit at his face, but he stood there for over half an hour, seemingly unfazed by the chill.

He couldn''t quite put his finger on what he was feeling; he just knew there was a heaviness in his chest, and each breath felt unusuallyborious.

His mind was a whirl of thoughts, yet it felt as if he hadn''t thought of anything at all.

Ever since he had tested the waters and received her answer that she wasn''t interested in a rtionship and just wanted to focus on her studies, Owen thought he could keep his feelings in check.

He figured he could go back to being just friends, be there for her, and watch her grow-it seemed like a good n.

But now, he realized he had overestimated his self-control.

Once a certain kind of thought takes root, it grows uncontrobly.

    He started to wish-

That he could be the only man by her side.

That her gaze would always find him.

That her smile would bloom because of him, and her joy would stem from his presence.

If he could, he would hope that she would think of him as much as he thought of her!

These wild fantasies peaked when he saw her step out of Corley''s car, the two of them walking side by side into the building.

Owen chuckled bitterly to himself, realizing he had moments where his logicpletely deserted him.

And more tragically, he was the only one trapped in this emotional quagmire from start to finish.

    ...

Under the same night sky, in the biting cold, York wasn''t faring much better.

As soon as he got Leda''s call, he dashed out of the club and made his way to her office building.

But after parking outside, he had been waiting for nearly an hour, with no sign of her emerging.

To top it off, she was straight-up ignoring his calls.

    "Damn it—"

Mr. Gibson cursed, his patience wearing thin.

In a fit of frustration, he punched the

    steering wheel, grimacing out

still unable to shake off the annoyance etched across his face.

    His

    ce was running out, and

    more just

    Bet

once, he had the urge to off, but each time he himself out of it-

    Just a little longer!

What if something unexpected came up?

Maybe she couldn''t pick up her phone?

    Just one more minute...

Five more minutes, what''s the harm...

I''ve waited this long, might as well stick around a bit longer...

I''m not waiting for her, just curious to see how long she can keep me hanging!

If she''s got the guts, she can stay in that office all night!

When she finallyes out, I''m gonna give her a piece of my mind!

Ah, whatever, Leda''s always been like this...

York''s patience paid off when, just before midnight, he saw Leda finally step out through the revolving doors.

But his relief was short-lived when he noticed a man trailing close behind her, catching up to walk beside her.

They were chatting andughing, and the guy even had the nerve to reach out and offer to carry her bag!

How could he let that slide?

Otherwise, what was the point of being her actual boyfriend?

York immediately got out of his Maybach, leaned against it, twirling his keys as he whistled in Leda''s direction-

    "Hey~"

Leda turned, surprised. "What are you doing here?"

"Here to pick you up, obviously. You think I''d park my car here to enjoy the cold night breeze?" York straightened up, walking over to her and casually taking the bag from her hand.
