Chapter 1626

"Well then, I''ll check it out myself," Drake said, trying to climb out of bed.

Debra and Marion each grabbed an arm, pinning him back down.

"You''re not going anywhere," they said in unison.

Marion red. "Don''t make trouble for us."

Debra echoed, "You know the Illuminati''s after you. You step out there and die."

"So what? I''m not afraid." Drake shrugged.

Debra''s lip twitched at his defeatist vibe. "Marion, I wanna smack him."

"I got it," Marion said, raising a hand.

Kale burst in just in time, blocking him. "Mr. Lowe hasn''t recovered yet."

Marion red at him, but Kale stood his ground.<fn84de> Read full story at find·novel</fn84de>

"It''s alright." Debra stepped in. "Drake, you should stay put and heal. That will save us a lot of trouble." "I..." Drake wanted to argue, but Marion''s hand pped on his shoulder, making him wince.

"Stay and heal," Marion repeated before leaving with Debra.

Drake rubbed his sore shoulder, and Kale advised him, "Boss, you indeed need to rest up."

"Lying here like a useless lump?" Drake huffed. "Can''t do it."

He''d never felt so pathetic. The enemy was taunting him on his turf, and he was powerless.

    "Help me up."

"Doctor William said your injuries were too bad. You can''t get out of bed."

"Help me up, or you wanna keep yapping?" Drake snapped. "You''re listening to Debra more than metely. Wanna switch bosses? I won''t stop you."

"I wouldn''t dare," Kale muttered, helping him up.

Drake could walk, but it was strenuous. His body was a mess of deep scars. It would take at least six months to heal.

Staring at his wrecked self, he felt suffocated. Living like this wasn''t any better than death.

"Boss, where are you going? I''ll help," Kale said.

"No need." Drake shook off his hand. "I can do it."

    "Boss..."

    "I said I could."

Drake started to walk away, but pain tore through his legs, causing him to break out in a cold sweat.

"Boss." Kale caught him as he stumbled.

As Debra said, staying put was helping them.

    "I''m fine," Drake said tly.

Kale guided him back to bed. "Let''s not push it. The four families'' mess isn''t our fight. Andrew promised to help you rebuild the Lowe Group, and you''ve taken enough hits for them."
