Debra nodded.
Liza recalled Yvonne as Drake''s former fiancée.
Her messy private life had made headlines. In the end, she lost her mind and jumped off a building.
The news of her death had been a sensation. And her father, Conrad, was equally infamous.
Liza frowned. "But Conrad and Yvonne are both gone."<fn6901> Updates are released by FindN0vel</fn6901>
"The Sharp family is under new leadership now. Lara is in charge," Debra exined. "I''ll drive you there, and she''ll help you hide."
She pulled out an earring and ced it in Liza''s hand. "Here, this has a tracker inside. If I''m wrong, the Sharp family is the safest ce for you. But if I''m right, things might getplicated."
She didn''t spell it out, but Liza understood what she meant.
"You''re worried Lara is with the Illuminati. If I stay at her house, it''ll look like I got kidnapped by them. That''ll put Fermin and the Illuminati at odds."
"Spot on. You''re smarter than I thought."
"Well, I''m a fast learner."
"You understand how dangerous this is. Are you sure..."
"I''ve already thought it through. If you and Fermin end up fighting, I''ll be heartbroken no matter who gets hurt. The only way to stop that is to get you two on the same side."
She had been thinking about how to make it happen in the past few days, and now the opportunity presented itself in front of her.
If she yed her role well, it might help Fermin break ties with the Illuminati. Then he and Debra wouldn''t have to be enemies anymore.
At noon, Debra led her to the casino through the underground passage. From there, they took a car that had been arranged in advance, heading straight for the back door of the Sharp Mansion.
Lara greeted them inside, lounging on the sofa with a nket draped over her shoulders.
"I''ve already heard everything," she said, taking Debra''s hand. "Your problem is my problem. Don''t worry. I''ll take good care of Miss Eaton."
Debra smiled. "Thank you for everything."
"My family isn''t as powerful as the Lowe family once was," Lara admitted. "But in Orkgate, no one dares challenge us. Even Grover wouldn''t dare search my house. But if Fermines looking, I can''t say how long I''ll be able to hold out."
Debra reassured her, "Three days. That''s all I need."
Debra exchanged a look with Liza before leaving for the airport.
As she gazed out at the clouds beyond the window, words from the past echoed in her mind.
"If one day you find yourself trapped, what will you do?" Andrew asked.
"I''d find a way to escape," she replied thoughtfully.
"Wrong," Andrew smiled.
