When Debra and Michael returned to the room, everyone was chatting happily around the table.


    Marion was the quiet type, not really engaging in the conversation. He would only speak up asionally.


    When Debra came back, he rxed and smiled.


    Debra didn''t smile back this time. She just walked over and sat down beside him.


    Marion had peeled shrimp for her because she never liked to eat anything with shells.


    She casually picked up one and popped it in her mouth. Soon, the next one was ready.


    "What''s wrong?" he asked, looking up. "Don''t you like the food today?"


    "Juan called me," Debra said quietly.


    "I know."


    "Aren''t you going to ask what he said?"


    "Other than congratting you on being discharged, I can''t think of anything else."


    His tone was thick with jealousy. In the past, Debra would''veughed and reassured him that she only loved him. But now, a million questions flooded her mind.


    When Marion first started pursuing her, he didn''t message her that often. He would ghost her asionally. It hadn''t bothered her back then, since their bond was still weak.


    Erica and Randy had told her that Marion didn''t use electronics much, Sadn''t thought much about it. she But still, a part of her had wondered where he had been.


    Then, when they were officially together, Marion''s responses starteding more often. She could sense his affection from his words and actions.


    But as Michael said, they had been too preupied with other things to focus on each other''s feelings.


    Marion cared for her and made her feel safe. He had never once argued with her. That allowed her to focus on her business, like dealing with Jeffrey.


    For the past month during her recovery, his thoughtfulness had been wless. It felt too perfect to be true.


    Humans were deemedplex creatures. Even someone as calm as Juan broke down sometimes. But Marion? His emotions seemed as steady as ever.


    Debra suddenly remembered something. Andrew had once told her that no matter what happened in the future, Marion would be the best partner she could ever have. He would never betray her and would always give her everything he had.


    She couldn''tprehend it back then or understand why Andrew had suddenly brought that up.


    "Debra?" Marion called out.


    She snapped out of it and saw another shrimp on her te.


    Theda watched their interaction, then put down her fork and knife.


    "It''s gettingte. We should head back now," she said.


    Robert helped grab her bag.
