Randy started unpacking the bags, but Erica was unimpressed.
"It''s Debra''sing-of-age ceremony, and you bring durian?"
"What''s the matter? I''ve got some for her, too."
Randy enthusiastically handed out durian cakes to everyone.
Debra looked down at the box in her hand, unsure of what to say. She never imagined that on hering-of-age day, she''d be gifted a durian cake.
Randy nced at his watch and said, "You guys enjoy yourselves. I''ve got something to do. I''ll be going now."
"Where are you going?" Erica protested.
"Marion is back from overseas. I''m going to pick him up," Randy exined.
Debra froze at the mention of the name. "Marion?"
"Yeah. You met him when you were little," Randy replied, puzzled.
"Marion is my cousin," Erica chimed in. "Your memory''s really poor."
Debra felt like the world around her went quiet for a moment.
The name sounded so familiar. He seemed to be someone important to her. She just couldn''t remember.
"Debra, why are you spacing out there?" someone called out.
Debra snapped back to reality and saw her parents standing beside her. Jeffrey and udia were there too.
When she met Juan''s eyes, she had a strange feeling that she had seen him before. She just couldn''t ce it.
"This is my son, Juan." udia
pulled Juan closer to her, saying
"You two are about the same age. I believe you''ll make good friends. Juan, say hello."
"Ms. Frazier." Juan extended his hand politely and asked, "Would you honor me with a dance?"
"I''m not very good at dancing," she declined because she was wearing high heels. "It''s fine, I can teach you."
Gael chimed in, "Go ahead and show us some moves you''ve learned from your mother."
"Got it." Debra ced her hand in Juan''s.
Juan smoothly led her in a simple
dance. Debra had danced
hers before, but with an it
others
felt different.
"Have we met before?" they asked in unison.
Juan chuckled, "I thought it was just me who felt that way."
Debra smiled awkwardly, "I thought I was imagining things."
"Are you getting engaged soon?"
"Yeah. My mom says Andrew and I were betrothed when we were little. It was bound to happen eventually."
"Andrew Potter?"
"Yep. He''s amazing. He manages
depend on him."
"Reliance doesn''t always mean love."
