Debra groggily opened her eyes, realizing it was a summer afternoon.
She jumped up from the rocking chair, her gaze fixed on the swing set not far
away.
It felt like a dream.
"Ms. Frazier," Barton called out. "Mr. Andrew Potter sent me to ask why you haven''t changed yet. It''s your 18th birthday today. It''s a big deal."
Debra panicked. "Oh no, I''ve slept in. Andrew''s gonna lecture me again."
As she rushed away, Barton called after her, "Ms. Frazier, be careful. Don''t trip."
"I know." Debra lifted the hem of her dress and sneaked through the back gate.
The maids were surprised to see her there.
Debra shushed them with a gesture and put her hands together. "Ladies, do me a favor. Don''t make a sound."
The maids giggled and kept quiet. They all looked away, as if they hadn''t seen her.
Just as Debra was about to sneak upstairs, someone suddenly grabbed her ear.
"Gotcha!"
"Knock it off, Jordan."
"Andrew won''t be able to protect you this time. Now you''reing upstairs with me."
Jordan started leading her upstairs. Debra hammered his arm. "It hurts. Let go."
"You should be taught a lesson," he protested. "You lingered in our house when you were little, and now we have to set up everything for your 18th birthday. While I was running around taking care of things you were napping in the backyard."
"I didn''t mean to sleep. That was an ident."
"No excuses for cking off. I''m gonna have Andrew give you a good talking-to."
"No, please. I won''t do it again."
Seeing how upset she was, Jordan
finally
t go of her. "What''s wrongt
Did really hurt you? I was just kidding."
Debra pretended to wipe her tears. "Gotta you. I was kidding, too."
With that, she bolted. Jordan stomped his foot. "You tricked me again."
Debra made a face at him and
to the third floor. The
artist and stylist had been
waiting for a while.
"You''rete," Erica grumbled.

"I don''t think so." Debra entered the fitting room.
There were so many clothes to choose from. She could barely decide.
The stylist proudly said, "These are prepared by Mr. Andrew Potter. All your favorite styles."
Debra''s eyes lit up with excitement.
"Andrew spoils you so much. Envious," Erica muttered. "I''m dating someone. I feel like a mom."
"Who are you dating this time?" Debra asked.
"It''s Randy Osborne. You''ve met him before," Erica mumbled.
