"Why is that?" Debra asked.
"I''ve grown used to life here. If I leave, I don''t know where I''ll go or if I''ll find work. I don''t even know where I''ll live," Lara replied. "Mrs. Houston, you''re right. I never sought revenge because, deep down, I''m selfish. If Drake dies, I''ll lose the stable life I have now. I don''t dare to face the uncertainties of the future."
Debra nodded knowingly. It was hard to go from extravagance to frugality. If one had seen much of the world, they couldn''t go back to being a frog in a well.
Even though Drake kept Lara by his side for his purposes, she had enjoyed luxuries that ordinary people couldn''t dream of.
Despite being a maid, Lara ate gourmet meals, lived in a nice room, and witnessed the extravagant lifestyle of the upper ss.
She didn''t have anyone to rely on and had no good education. Leaving Drake would only make her homeless.
From the beginning, she and Drake had a mutually beneficial rtionship. There was nothing to hate about it.
"It''s good that you understand," Debra said.
Debra had sent Lara back to Drake''s side so that Lara could realize what she truly wanted.
Not everyone had the courage to face an uncertain future. Some people just want stability, and Lara was one of them.
Debra went on to prepare breakfast for Marion. Lara suddenly added, "By the way, happy married life to you!"
"Thank you."
"Uh..."
Debra put down the utensils. "Is there something you want to tell me?"
Lara hesitated and finally shook her head. "It''s nothing. Since you''re with Mr. Houston, he must be the one you can trust with your life. I wish you happiness, and I''m sorry for deceiving you before."
She then left the kitchen. She had wanted to warn Debra to be careful of Kale.
Drake treated Debra differently without realizing it. Lara could see it, and so could Kale.
Debra''s presence had affected
Drake''s judgment, a situation Kale would not tolerate. Then again, with Marion by her side, Debra should be safe.

"Mrs. Houston, I wanted to say..."
"Lara." Kale''s voice suddenly interrupted from behind. "Mr. Lowe wants you to
clean the room upstairs."
"Yes." Lara slowly backed out of the kitchen.
Debra nced at the fish Kale was holding. "What''s this?"
He replied, "Mr. Lowe wants to try your fish soup. Could you prepare it and send it upstairs?"
