Maybe Nathalie made too much of a scene, because Jackson''s backup showed up fast―Jules and Mrs. Vincent''s people arrived almost at the same time.
The moment Jules saw Mick and Jackson curled up on the ground, bloodied and battered, his face twisted in pity. He shot a re at Nathalie, the obvious ringleader. "Nathalie, you''re a young woman. How could you be so vicious? Call off your people right now! If someone dies, can you handle that kind of consequence?"
Nathalie gave Lizzy a look, and Lizzy finally stopped.
Mick was barely hanging on, breath ragged and weak. "I''m calling the police," he croaked.
Morris rolled his eyes. "Go ahead. If you actually dare, I''ll even give you some credit. But do you? What about all those filthy photos in your folder, or your medical records? You sure you want me to drop them on trending?"
Mick''s bravado instantly copsed, panic shing across his face. His anger turned to uncertainty and dread.
Morris let out a soft, coldugh. "You drugged Nathalie first. Her people roughing you up? Seems fair. But if you bother her again, next time you won''t get off so easy."
Mick swallowed hard. There was something about Morris-he was young, his voice gentle, but somehow he radiated a quiet, bone-deep threat. It made your skin crawl.
Jules''s sense of chivalry kicked in. "Nathan, Nathalie, you''re in my house, and you just beat up the guy I''ve been grooming as my sessor. Are you saying I don''t matter?"
Nathalie answered with a polite edge. "Mr. Jules, it''s not that I don''t respect you. But Mick''s gone too far-he stole my project, drugged me, and now he''s trying to crush my family. If I keep putting up with it, he''ll just think I''m a pushover.”
She cracked her riding crop against the floor-sharp and loud enough to make everyone wince. "I don''t go looking for fights. But if someone dares to dump their crap on me, I''ll make sure they eat everyst bit of it."
Jules''s temper spiked. "Nathalie, Stewart Enterprises and Vincent Corporation have a lot of deals together. You and Mick will have to see each other all the time. Why burn your own bridges?"
Nathalie''s words were icy. "If Vincent Corporation insists on keeping a guy with such rotten character, then I don''t care to work with them."
"Nathalie-"
"Jules-"
Jules had barely finished saying her name when Mrs. Vincent stormed in, her voice ringing through the room as she scolded him.
"Mick''s got talent, I know you value him. But he''s brought two disasters in just one day are you really still going to defend him?"
Jules looked torn. "Mother, Nathan and Nathalie provoked him first. Look at Mick -Nathalie whipped him half to death!"
"He brought it on himself."
Jules was floored.
"Mother, how can you just take sides without even asking what happened-?"
Mrs. Vincent''s anger boiled over. "Jules, you''ve made more stupid mistakes today than in your entire life. Since you''re so lost, go home and rest. I''ll have a pro manage thepany for a few days."
Jules stared at her in disbelief. "Mother, do you realize what you''re doing? You''re giving me time off just for an outsider. Do you know how much damage this could do to thepany?"
She snorted. "You''re getting old, Jules. More confused than ever. You can''t even
tell who''s family and who''s not anymore."
Jules gave a bitter smile. "You always taught me to be fair, to pick the best for the
job. But today, you''re teaching me to y favorites?"
He added, "Even if you want to y favorites, Mick''s the CEO of Vincent Corporation, Jackson''s one of
us-the Sharp family. So why Mother, are you standing up for Morris?"
