Clearly taken aback by Barbara''s request, Remington had his brows furrow slightly.
"Godmother, I can''t agree to that, I''m married."
"No! sweetheart. I know you and Lizetta have already filed for divorce. If it hadn''t been for that incident,
you wouldn''t have married her in the first ce. You would have waited for Ste! Now that you''ve filed
for divorce and Ste has been found, it''s fate. You gotta promise me!"
As Barbara spoke, she sped Eileen''s hand tightly with Remington''s.
Remington''s expression darkened slightly, and he instinctively tried to withdraw his hand.
But Barbara''s grip was so tight, and her hands were so frail and trembling.
Remington''s arm stiffened, and he barely opened his lips to speak.
"Godmother, I''m sorry. But rest assured, even if I don''t marry Ste, I will always take care of her."
After Remington spoke, his gaze solemnly swept over Eileen.
Having understood what he meant, Eileen quickly said, "Mom, don''t worry, I trust Remington. He will
take good care of me! Don''t talk anymore, it''s time to go to the operating room. I''ve juste back to
you, and I hope you can stay with me longer. You will make it through, Dad and I will be waiting outside
the OR."

Remington gestured for the doctor toe forward.
But Barbara suddenly became very agitated; she held onto Remington and Eileen, refusing to let go.
"No! No! Remington, you promise me, otherwise I will not die in peace!"
Barbara cried out; her voice filed the room alongside herbored breathing.
The medical devices connected to her began to emit various rm sounds, and Martin, standing by,
changed his expression drastically, rushing forward to calm her.
The doctor also stepped forward, urgently saying, "The patient must go into surgery now! We can''t
dy any longer."
Barbara''s eyes were rolling back, but she stubbornly clung to Remington''s hand.
Martin tried to pull them apart twice but failed. Feeling anxious, he looked at Remington with a pleading
look and tone.
"Remington! Just promise your Godmother, I''m begging you."
Remington finally spoke in a strained voice, while leaning in.
"Alright, go into surgery first."
His voice was soft, and the room was noisy.
But Lizetta felt as though his answer echoed in her ears.
Feeling her heart aching as if it were being squeezed by an invisible hand, Lizetta struggled to breathe.
She wanted to flee, but her legs felt as if they were filled with lead.
She couldn''t move.
He had agreed. He had actually agreed to Barbara''s request to marry Ste!
Inside the ward, after hearing what she wanted, Barbara finally let go.
The medical staff moved forward to push the mobile bed out. A nurse backed into Lizetta, bumping her.
Lizetta staggered back a couple of steps; her back hit the door frame, and she was pushed out of the
room.
She clutched her stomach, steadying herself against the wall before looking up to see Remington; he
was following beside the bed as the group moved toward the operating room. "Ma''am, are you feeling
alright? Do you need me to call a doctor?"
Lizetta stood dazed until a stranger''s voice brought her back to reality.
She slowly shook her head and thanked the person.
"Are you sure? You look very pale."
"No, thank you."
Lizetta managed a weak smile, and the young woman in hospital attire left. Lizetta then slowly turned
around and made her way toward the elevator.
