Chapter 313

In the hospital room, after Fiona took Hanna away, Lizetta remained silent, her lips pursed.

“What’s wrong?” Remington pulled her into his arms again and asked, looking down at her.

Lizetta felt uneasy because of Hanna’s words. She deeply cared about Joseph and wanted to save

him. But Joy was her treasure too, and she didn’t want her baby to be seen merely as a hope or tool for

saving Joseph. She wished for Joy to be born out of pure love, not for anyone else.

However, Lizetta couldn’t help wondering if Remington had chased her all the way from the airport back

only because she was pregnant, and because Joy might be the key to saving Joseph.

“Remi, what if Joy isn’t a match for Joseph? Would you be disappointed?” Lizetta’s voice trembled

slightly as she looked up at him.

Sensing her anxiety, Remington held her tighter, gently smoothing the worried furrow between her

brows. “Pregnancy brain much?” he teased.

Lizetta blinked and puffed out her cheeks in response.

Remington poked her cheeks yfully, “Joy is our child. I look forward to his arrival simply because I’m

his dad. It’s unrted to anyone or anything else. Don’t take my mom’s words to heart and overthink,

    okay?”

Lizetta nodded, a smile returning to her face. “But I do hope Joy could help Joseph,” she admitted.

Suddenly remembering something, she tugged on Remington’s shirt. “Where’s my phone?”

Remington had confiscated her phone earlier and hadn’t returned it yet. Thinking she was eager to

contact Ynda, he leaned over to retrieve it from the nightstand.

After booting it up, Lizetta excitedly opened a voice recording and urged Remington, “Lie down, quick.”

Remington, puzzled but indulgent,y down on the hospital bed.

“Close your eyes. I’ve got something for you to listen to.”

Obediently, he closed his eyes, the corners crinkling with a smile.

Lizettay beside him, cing his hand on her belly. She then yed the encrypted audio clip and

    closed her eyes too.

The sound of a little train chugging filled their ears. Lizetta, covering Remington’s hand with hers,

giggled. “Honey, can you hear that? That’s Joy’s heartbeat.”

Jenny had apanied Lizetta to a prenatal checkup and helped record this audio clip. Lizetta had

saved it on her phone to listen from time to time.

Now, she couldn’t wait to share it with Remington, to tell him their Joy was healthy and soon to join

    them in this world.

At first, Remington didn’t understand what the sound was. But when Lizetta exined it was the baby’s

heartbeat, his hand instinctively tightened slightly over her belly, overwhelmed and cautious not to

    press

    too hard.

A miraculous feeling surged through him, leaving him speechless and deeply moved.

In his heart, he promised silently.

“Such a considerate little one. When you’re born, I will treat you to extra gifts. Without you, I might have

    lost your mommy.”

“Remi? Remington, don’t you have anything to say?” Lizetta waited but heard nothing from him. She

    opened her eyes.

The audio had finished ying, but Remingtony still, his expression serene.

Lizetta wondered if he’d fallen asleep and felt a spike of irritation, nudging him awake.

Remington then opened his eyes. “Is he running a train in there?”

Lizetta was at a loss for words.

She had been moved to tears the first time she heard the heartbeat, and this was his reaction?

She huffed, “Don’t you have anything else to say?”

Remington shed a sly smile, leaning closer. “You just called me ‘honey!’ Sweetheart, say it again. I

    love hearing it.”

Lizetta froze, her cheeks flushing with color,

His focus was always so unexpectedly quirky!
