Chapter 300

“Evelina, this whole thing has blown up big time, and if Me Dashiell digs up anything more on Daniel,

what the heck are we gonna do if we get dragged into it.”

April was freaking out, and even Evelina looked like a deer caught in headlights for a sec, clenching the

    bedsheets and grinding her

    teeth.

“No way, we didn’t get busted when the shit hit the fan back then, and it’s even less likely now. Just

throw more cash at that Paisley dude toy low in the sticks for another year or so, whatever it takes to

keep him away from Zion City!”

Back in the day, it was April who had a middle–aged guy with thest name Paisley spread some nasty

rumors about Lizetta at the Mermaid Restaurant, which got Linda, a server green with envy over

Lizetta, to spill the beans to Daniel.

Daniel got suckered into trying something nasty with Lizetta, and when the whole mess blew up, April

paid Mr. Paisley to skip town andy low,

Evelina hadn’t expected this mess to still be kicking around, and now Remington was hurt because of it

She was scared stiff that her role as the puppet master woulde to light.

    “Got it,” April nodded.

Evelina thought for a moment, then picked up her phone and dialed Hanna,N?vel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive ? material.

After all, Remington got hurt for Lizetta’s sake, and that bit of news was too juicy not to share with

    Hanna.

    In the doctor’s office.

Lizetta handed over the angiogram to the doctor, who, after a thorough check–up, reassured her there

    was nothing wrong with it.

She grilled the doc about Remington’s condition until she felt a weight lift off her chest and left the

    office.

She didn’t expect to find Evelina clutching her belly, sitting right outside on the waiting chairs

As soon as Evelina saw her she shot to her feet and asked with faux concem

“Liz, I just heard about Remington getting hurt. How bad is it? Can I go see him?”

As she spoke, she bent over to pick up a bunch of flowers from the chair

Lizetta’s eyesnded on the bouquet of bellflowers and wisteria,

She used to work part–time at a flower shop and knew all too well what these flowers symbolized.

Bellflowers stood for hopeless love, while wisteria meant being born out of passion, dying for love, and

being obsessed with a love that would never be reciprocated.

They were two rather cold flowers with lousy meanings, totally not the kind for a patient.

Evelina really outdid herself picking these two for Remington

    “Nope”

Lizetta t–out rejected her and walked away

Evelina hurried after her clutching the flowers, “Liz, I meanderthave to go into the room. Just take the

flowers in for me, to show I care. Oh, and that thing we talked about, did you ask Remington? Is he

keen on our babies growing up and ying together? You

know, I think it’d be neat if my little one could have Remington as a godfather.”

Lizetta felt like she was being swarmed by a million flies, buzzing non–stop.

By the end, she couldn’t take it anymore. She stopped dead in her tracks, spun around, snatched the

bouquet from Evelina’s hands, and chucked it to the ground.

She stomped on it until it was nothing but a pulpy mess, ring at Evelina.

“The flowers are gone, you can hit the road/My husband and I talked it over, we’re nning on baby

number two, number three, our kids will have their own brothers and sisters! If your child wants a

sibling, go ask his real dad. Don’te here grossing us out!”

Evelina hung her head low, staring at the trampled flowers, tears plopping down.

“Liz, what’s wrong with these pretty, vibrant flowers? You’re being too much.”

She crouched down, trying to pick up the remains, as if it was her shattered heart being stepped on

“Lizetta! You’re out of line, look at yourself!”

Just then, a familiar, shrill voice came from behind Lizetta.

Lizetta turned and saw Hanna striding towards her, all dolled up and dripping with elegance.

Seeing the reproach and disgust in Hanna’s eyes, Lizetta couldn’t help but chuckle. She crossed fer

    erms and raised an eyebrow

“I was wondering what soap opera she was acting out here, turns out she’s got an audience.”
