Chapter 258

Evelina snatched Remington’s arm, and he nced down at her, reassuring her.

“It’s gonna be alright, the doc’s got you and the kiddo covered.”

Evelina looked at Remington, something seemed to click, and she nodded in agreement. “I believe in

you, Remi. I’ll do what you said.”

Just like that, she obedientlyid herself down on the gurney, and the docs and nurses wheeled her

    away.

Passing by Lizetia, Evelina tilted her head slightly to catch her eye.

Meering Lizetta’s look of utter shock, Evélina’s lips curved into a sly smile.

Her eyes were filled with a mix of taunting and mockery.

Lizetta clenched her fingertips and looked away.

With Remington around, faking a paternity test was peanuts, right?

Remington was totally head over heels about ying daddy to Evelina’s baby.

How could Evelina not be smug about it?

“Barbara, check it out, Remington still hangs on your every word!” Hanna and Barbara were chatting

    nearby.

Barbara chuckled, “Jealous of me? Come on, it’s not my fault I’m just the godmother and you’re the

real deal. Kids gotta rebel against their parents no matter how old they are.”

Her health was always a bit shaky, and she broke into a serious coughing fit before she could finish.

Nathan turned to Martin in concern, “Sorry for dragging you and Barbara into this mess, especially with

    her not being well.”

He instructed Remington, “Take Barbara back to her room first.”

Martin waved his hands dismissively at Remington.

“No need, Remington, you go take your grandma back first. Mrs. Fiona, Barbara and I wille over

and see you next time.” He then apologized to Fiona.

it was only then that Fiona noticed Barbara was still wearing her hospital gown under her heavy coat,

    obviously an inpatient herself.

Fiona had caused quite amotion and felt bad about it, hurrying everyone along.

“Alright, enough with the formalities, let’s get Barbara back to her room.”

Mr. and Mrs. West took their leave, and Hanna stepped forward to help Fiona.

“Mom, there’s no telling when Evelina will be out, and the DNA test is gonna take a while. I’ll take you

    back.”

But Fiona brushed her hand away and instead clung tightly to Lizetta’s hand, dismissively saying,

    #

“Off you go, do whatever you need to do, you’re just making me angry! Liz can stay with me.”

Hanna’s face stiffened slightly. Lizetta was no longer Remington’s wife, no longer Fiona’s

    granddaughter–inw.

Yet Fiona still favored her, clearly unable to see who was closer to her heart.

Without a change in expression, Hanna shot a sharp nce at Lizetta and instructed,

“Then you take good care of Fiona, Lizetta!”

Lizetta just nodded quietly at her.

She knew she was a thorn in Hanna’s side, and she knew why Hanna disliked her so much.

Hanna’s family had fallen on hard times, her bond with Nathan was just so–so, and she didn’t have

much of a career of her own.

The only reason she could hold her head up high in the socialite circle was because of her capable

    son, Remington.

But Remington wasn’t raised by her, he wasn’t close to her, and he wouldn’t lift a finger for her family.

Compared to Hanna, Lizetta came from even more humble beginnings, with an even more

    embarrassing family.

But in the Dashiell family, Fiona whom Hanna had tried so hard to please always found fault with her,

yet she showed genuine affection for Lizetta.

As Fiona’s daughter–inw, Hanna couldn’tpete with the favored granddaughter–inw, and even

her son used to have Lizetta’s back. Naturally, Hanna felt ufortable. The better Fiona and

Remington treated Lizetta, the more Hanna resented her.

Years of this tension had turned into an irreconcble conflict.

At least, it was alling to an end. With the divorce, she wouldn’t have to face this suffocating

mother–inw and daughter inw rtionship any longer.

“Grandma, let’s go. Il take you back.”

Lizetta supported Fiona as they walked to the elevator, but footsteps from behind caught their attention.

Lizetta instinctively turned around and locked eyes with Remington.

Surprised, why isn’t he keeping vigil outside the OR with Evelina still in surgery? What’s he doing

    following them?
