Chapter 1004

Once inside Oakridge Heights, Ron waspletely awake. Clinging to Remington''s shoulder, he looked around curiously with wide eyes. Even though it was an unfamiliar environment, and Liz had worried the child might cry and fuss, he seemed quite happy. Liz asked Remington, "Did you use to visit the child often at the West family''s house? He seems very familiar with you." Remington certainly didn''t want her to have such a misunderstanding, so he quickly replied, "Not at all. While you were away from Zion City, I never went to the West residence once. Ste West did call a few times iming Ron was sick, and I went to see him twice, but both times were at the hospital. I had Cedric with me each time, and we left right after checking on the child. You can ask Cedric." Liz had only asked casually, simply surprised by Ron''s reaction. She hadn''t expected Remington to exin so thoroughly, as if terrified she would get angry or misunderstand. He used to be as tight-lipped as a m, but now he had be a master of rambling. Liz shot him a half-smiling nce. "Cedric is your spokesperson. Do you really think I''d believe that?" The man frowned slightly, wondering how to make her believe him, when he caught the teasing glint in the woman''s eyes. Realizing this wicked girl was deliberately provoking him, he felt both helpless and amused. cing Ron on the sofa, he said, "But one time at the hospital, Ste West did... never mind, let''s not talk about it. You y with Ron for a bit, I''ll go get you a ss of water." Before finishing his sentence, he turned toward the dining room. He had barely taken a step when he felt a tug on the hem of his shirt. Turning around, Remington saw the woman''s small hand firmly gripping his clothes. An uncontroble smile formed on his lips. Pressing down the corners of his mouth, he turned fully, looking down at Liz with feigned confusion. "What''s wrong?" A brief sh of feigned indifference crossed Liz''s face. She let go of Remington''s shirt, casually grabbed a throw pillow to y peek-a-boo with Ron, and asked seemingly unintentionally, "Why didn''t you finish what you were saying just now?" Remington didn''t answer. Liz waited for a moment, and when she got no response, she instinctively looked up. Meeting the man''s deeply teasing gaze, her cheeks warmed, realizing instantly that she had fallen for it. Damn it, boyfriends were indeed the least cute creatures most of the time. Not cute at all. "Liz, you look quite pretty when you''re jealous." Remington chuckled softly. Grinding her teeth, Liz couldn''t take it anymore and threw the pillow at him. "Do you find it fun teasing me?" Catching the pillow smoothly, Remingtonughed and tossed it back. "What could possibly happen between me and Ste West? Ever since I carefully studied the books on male virtue that my grandfather gave me, I''vepletely ignored her. Even when I had to meet her, Cedric was always by my side. Why are you so nervous?" Catching the pillow, Liz felt a bit of embarrassed anger at his increasingly teasing demeanor. She threw the pillow back and said, "You have the nerve to bring that up. Grandfather said before that giving those books to you was a waste. If he had known you were a bastard who would hurt me and our child, he should have asked for them back and burned them. You didn''t deserve them as a wee gift at all." Catching the pillow again, Remington looked slightly wronged. "Why don''t I deserve them? Have Grandfathere to Zion City and assess me again. This time, I''ll definitely make him satisfied." Saying that, Remington tossed the pillow back to Liz, but before she could catch it, Ron, who was lying on the sofa, started looking back and forth. The child obviously thought Liz and Remington were ying some sort of game. He suddenly began kicking his short little legs, giggling so hard that his chin was covered in drool. The little guy''s innocentughter instantly captured the full attention of the two adults. Stopping their bickering, Liz picked up the pillow, leaned over next to Ron, and poked his chubby cheek. "Is it really that funny? That man is a big bad guy. You need to grow up quickly and help Auntie teach him a lesson, okay, baby Ron?" "Ah! Ya!" Waving his arms and legs, Ron babbled in response, as if he had actually understood Liz''s words. Highly amused, Liz held Ron''s little hand and brought it to her lips for a kiss. Ronughed even louder. For a moment, the usually cold Oakridge Heights felt lively and full of warmth. Remington stood there with one hand in his pocket, watching Liz and Ron interact and y. The hand in his pocket clenched tightly, a storm of emotions brewing in his eyes.
