"Justin, what''s going on with your Uncle Zachary''s death? Why are the police investigating you?" Javier demanded. Dark circles hung beneath his eyes, clear evidence that he hadn''t slept at all.
Justin crossed his legs nonchntly, an unperturbed smile spreading across his face. "Dad, I know what you''re afraid of. But what''s there to fear? No matter how terrifying or perverse Uncle Zachary was, he''s already dead."
Javier flew into a rage. "Me? Afraid of him? The police are after you because of his death! Cyrus Taylor took you away in front of everyone at yesterday''s board meeting. The news has spread across Sna City; it''s even trending online!
"Beckett Group''s share price plunged into the red first thing this morning. Do you even realize how much trouble you''ve caused the corporation?"
Justin merely shrugged. "So what? The contract for Project A5 has already been signed, and the project is underway. Besides, we have government-backed projects supporting us. These fluctuations are only temporary."
Javier stared straight into Justin''s dark, unfathomable eyes. The man before him was his son, known for his gentleness, elegance, andposure. Yet now, Justin felt like a stranger.
"Be honest with me-did you have anything to do with Zachary''s release from prison? Did you pull strings to get him out? Otherwise, how could a death-row inmate from a fallen family pull something like this off without outside help?" Justin looked at Javier as though he were a fool. Even now, Javier remainedpletely oblivious to Zachary''s true capabilities. He was truly an idiot.
Even if Justin had orchestrated everything himself, there was no way he would admit it. He would never hand over such a damning piece of evidence.
Javier''s anger only deepened at Justin''s silence. In a cold voice, he dered, "Given the controversy surrounding you and the impact it''s having on thepany, I want you to lie low for now.
"Starting tomorrow, you don''t need toe to Beckett Group. Jasper will handle the daily operations in your ce."
"Excuse me?" A surge of rage burst from Justin''s chest, sending a sharp pain through his body. Bitterness rose in his throat as he forced out, "Jasper is no longer the president of Beckett Group. What right does he have to take my ce?"
"Even if Jasper isn''t the current president, he used to be. In terms of experience, he far surpasses you." Javier sped his hands behind his back and paced before Justin, his expression dark. "You''re the center of public attention right now. It''s inappropriate for you to appear at such a sensitive time. Just stay out of sight for the time being.
"Besides, I''m not suspending you. I''m only asking Jasper to handle matters temporarily. You can take this opportunity to rest."
"Have you forgotten why Jasper was dismissed in the first ce?" A cold, dangerous glint shed in Justin''s eyes. "He copsed during a major meeting because he took illegal medication containg narcotics And now you''re sidelining me and putting a drug addict in charge? Don''t you see how absurd that is?"
"That woman from the Taylor family has already cleared Jasper''s name! He wasn''t using drugs. It was your subordinate who framed him!"
The thought enraged Javier. If he had known the truth earlier, he would never have allowed Justin—his chronically ill firstborn with limited experience—to rece the far more capable Jasper.
The more he thought about it, the more he regretted his decision.
"By the way, where''s Dr. Gillis, the female doctor working for you? Where has she
beentely? She''s responsible for what happened to Jasper."
At the mention of Sheryl, Justin''s gaze dimmed, but he said nothing.
Eden nced briefly at Justin before stepping forward. "Mr. Javier, I don''t think suspending Mr. Justin right now is appropriate. He was only asked to assist the police with their investigation. He isn''t a suspect.
"If you bar him from thepany, wouldn''t that only confirm the rumors? The
situation is already difficult enough as it is. We shouldn''t add fuel to the fire."
Javier shot Eden a cold, grim look, his lips pressed so tightly that they turned white, as if he were holding something back.
Justin caught that look immediately.
In that instant, everything became clear. Of course Javier had
considered everything Eden had said. He simply needed a justifiable excuse to sideline Justin to clip His
wings.
At that thought, Justin''s eyes turned icy, concealing the flicker of murderous intent within.
Suddenly, everyone''s phones began ringing almost at the same time.
