Alyssa couldn''t help worrying about Yuliana''s situation within the royal family. "If that''s really the case... Yuliana will be in an extremely difficult position going forward. This would be a huge scandal for the royal family, so there''s no way they would admit it publicly.
"The king might quietly send her away, or... No matter what happens, her future could turn bleak.
"That said, she is still the queen''s biological daughter, and the queen has powerful backing from her family. She should be able to protect Princess Yuliana, right?"
Jonah nodded, his expression grim. "I hope so. Liam is quite taken with her. Despite all the introductions he''s had, he hasn''t met a single one. That just shows he still hasn''t forgotten that sweet young woman."
Alyssa waved her hand decisively, confidence shing in her eyes. "If the royal family gives Yuliana a hard time, we''ll take her in and have her marry into our family. Let''s see who would darey a finger on her then."
Meanwhile, after having lunch with Newton at Crescent Bay, Jasper was summoned to the study.
"Jasper, I''ve been feeling like my health has been decliningtely. Who knows how many days I have left?" Newton said with a faint smile.
There wasn''t a trace of sadness in his tone. He seemedpletely at peace.
Jasper''s throat tightened. "Don''t say that, Grandpa. I''m sure you''ll live a long life."
"I hope so." Newton studied Jasper''s striking features, his eyes misting slightly. "I''ve reached a point where I''ve made peace with everything and let go of my burdens The only thing I still worry about is you and Alyssa. You brat... when are you going to win her back?"
His voice rang out loud and clear, as if he still had decades ahead of him.
"Can you give me a little more time, Grandpa?" Jasper asked, his voice low but steady, his gaze firm.
Newton rolled his eyes. "Who did
you even take after? Why are you so indecisive? Your father may be a Scoundrel, but at least he was decisive when he asked to marry. your mother!"
A faint, bitter smile touched Jasper''s lips. It wasn''t indecision. He knew exactly how deeply he loved Alyssa. It was just that the timing wasn''t right yet.
Still, he couldn''t say that outright. At Newton''s age, stress like that might be too much for him.
Newton didn''t press further. Instead, he instructed Ben to retrieve two documents from a safe hidden behind a painting in the study.
He then handed them to Jasper.
"Grandpa, what are these?"
Jasper had no idea what could be so important that Newton had kept them hidden for so many yearspletely secret, even from him.
