Cyrus scoffed. "That piece of shit who approached you is a coward. Quite the
opportunist too-choosing the exact moment my family is in chaos to take a cheap shot at us!"
Hatred burned in his eyes. He wished he could tear the mastermind limb from limb. Unfortunately, he was aw enforcement officer. All he could do was grit his teeth and restrain himself.
"As an officer, you''re familiar with thew, aren''t you?
"Even if you were hired to carry out the hit, it doesn''t change the fact that it was attempted murder. Enjoy rotting in prison for the rest of your life."
It was painfully obvious who had bribed the man. If it wasn''t Justin, then it had to be his right-hand woman, Sheryl.
Nevertheless, Cyrus had no concrete evidence. The station captain would never authorize an overt investigation into Beckett Group without proof. And as a lone officer, he was in no position to go head-to-head with Justin.
Hatred boiled in his veins. Even so, he had not lost his sanity—not yet. He had to stay calm so he could keep the hitman alive on Alyssa''s behalf.
Even if he couldn''t deal Justin the final blow, the man could still serve as a crucial piece in bringing him down.
The hitman was escorted away and locked up.
Cyrus remained alone in the corridor. Tall and broad-shouldered, he leaned against the icy wall before slowly sliding down it, utterly drained.
Sitting on the floor, he lowered his head and buried his face between his knees.
It took everything in him to hold back his tears.
Winston had lost his memories, and Mandy was still in critical condition. Not only that, Alyssa had fallen ill too. If not for his burning desire for revenge, he would already be on the brink of copse.
Just then, his phone rang.
After taking a deep breath, he answered it. "Hello?"
"Mr. Cyrus, it''s me, Jasper."
Cyrus snapped his head up. "Jasper?"
"I know you''re going through a difficult time, especially with Madam Mandy still in a critical condition after the car ident. But I need your help with something. You have to pull yourself together."
Cyrus scrubbed his face hard. "What is it? Just tell me."
Jasper''s deep voice turned grave. "I need your help destroying Justin''s drug experimentation base and getting Amber out."
Cyrus shot upright as if injected with adrenaline. The gloom in his eyes vanished, reced by zing determination.
"Where is it? I swear I''ll blow that whole damn ce to the ground!"
Jasper''s voice remained steady, grounding him. "It''s on Domere Mountain. I''ll send you the exact coordinates shortly.
"This is a major operation. There are victims being held there, but also employees and high-level executives. Altogether, there are approximately 200 people inside.
"You''ll need approval from your superiors to deploy Special Forces. There''s a strong possibility they have firearms and explosives. If a shootout breaks out, it could turn deadly."
Cyrus no longer had the luxury to wallow in sorrow. His heart pounded as he said, "Damn it! We''ve finally found that bastard''sir! Don''t I''ll make sure everything is meticulously nned. But Jasper have to ask how
worry.
ve
you get such
detailed information?"
"It was Damien-your fifth brother-who told me."
"Damien..." Cyrus choked on the name, his voice nearly breaking.
Sensing his emotions, Jasper spoke gently, yet firmly. "Right now, I don''t know whether he''s helping us because he regained his memories.
"But regardless of whether he''s acting as Remy or Damien, having him willingly on our side is the best oue we could hope for."
"Yeah, you''re right..." Cyrus rubbed his bloodshot eyes. "By the way, have you informed Axel?"
"I''ll tell him first thing tomorrow morning."
Though Jasper sounded calm, there was unmistakable emotion beneath his words. "He hasn''t had a single proper night''s sleep since Amber disappeared. Let him rest tonight."
It wasn''t until the following evening that Alyssa finally opened her eyes, her mind foggy.
The first thing she did was reach out to the side of the bed, searching for Jasper''s presence.
"Jasper... Jasper?"
Suddenly, she jolted awake, her eyes flying open. She shot upright in panic, her oversized hospital gown soaked in sweat.
"Lyse, calm down!" Jonah urged, gripping her trembling shoulders, his eyes filled with concern.
Ever since Jasper left, Jonah had stayed by Alyssa''s side the entire time without sleeping.
"Jonah, where''s Jasper?" Alyssa''s voice quivered.
"He... He had something important to take care of. He had to leave for now," Jonah replied, his chest tightening.
He looked at her tenderly, forcibly suppressing his own emotions.
Tears welled in Alyssa''s eyes before finally spilling over. "Didn''t he
he''d stay with me? Didn''t he promise I''d see him when woke u up? Why did he lie to me? Why did he do that?"
Her heart ached unbearably. If she had known it would end like this, she would
rather he hadn''te at all-hadn''t held her, hadn''t kissed her...
"Lyse, calm down and listen to me!"
Jonah hadn''t nned to tell her the truth. He didn''t want to burden her while she
was still recovering. But seeing how devastated she was, he couldn''t keep it from
her.
"It''s not that Jasper lied or that he
didn''t want to stay. He left because something more important came up. Today He, Cyros and Axetare
breaking into Justin''sboratory base to rescue Amber."
