Chapter 88

    Chapter 88

She grinned widely as I called her name.

“I was beginning to think that you would never recognize me.”

I shook my head as I furrowed my brows. “But how?”

She smiled and I could detect a hint of sadness in the smile.

“It’s nice to finally meet you, Amara.”

She stretched her arm out for a handshake and I nced at it. She nodded, a smile still etched on her face as she urged me to have a handshake with her.

I hesitantly took her hand and she sat down on the chair in the room.

It was then that I had the chance to nce around the room. It was small and had intricate designs and carvings on the wall.

“I’ve been looking all over for you.”

    “How?” I scrunch my face.

I didn’t know that she practiced witchcraft or whatever craft that made her change faces multiple times.

    She smiled.

“How am I sure that this is you?”

“Oh, easy. I can take people’s faces but not their memories. Ask me anything only I–Selene would know.”

I eyed her suspiciously. “You might be lying about that fact too.”

“You’ve been lied to, a lot.”

“Yes,” I affirmed and she sighed.

“Let me show you something.” She transformed into Rielle and grabbed the lit candle by the table, using it to burn her skin.

I scrunched my face and she winced as the skin became red. She suddenly transformed back to being Selene.

    “I can’t withstand pain in someone’s body.”

“Fine, let’s say I believe you. But how can you do all that? How did you find me?”

She chuckled. “It’s a long story.”

I shook my head. “I want to hear it. I have time.”

It was she I was looking for after all. Now that I had seen her, all that was left would be to strategize but for some reason, seeing her scared me. She didn’t seem like the innocent, gentle, sweet Selene from 8 years ago.

Not that I would me her. Nine years was a long time and considering what happened to her, I wouldn’t me her for having changed.

Everyone had changed. Even I wasn’t the same meek, foolish woman I was when I had first met Lucien.

She chuckled again and I realized that she had the habit of chuckling. I wanted to ask her about her children but thought against it.

    “You’re sure about that?”

    “Absolutely!”

She shifted in her chair and then in a serious tone. “You do have time, that’s good. But your children do not.”

I frowned and then sighed heavily. She knew a lot about me, it wasn’t a surprise that she knew about my children. She must’ve known that they were abducted.

“What do you mean by that?” I demanded, realizing that she had said they did not have enough time. I wanted to

know if she knew about Kai.

Greyson had told me that the artifact was missing which meant that Kai was at their mercy.

    “You tell me.‘

“Oh. You must not have heard,” she chuckled as her eyes twinkled with mischief.

    “The crone is dead-”

My jaw literally fell as my mouth opened and I mped my mouth shut quickly.

I was struggling to process that piece of information when she dropped another.

“And Kai isn’t with them anymore-”

I didn’t know where I got the strength from, but I stood up quickly.

    “What!”

“Where is my son? Where is Kai?” I rushed to her, grabbing her dress.

    “Easy–easy. He’s safe.”

I refused to sit and she kept nudging me to go back to the bed.

“We have a lot to talk about, you and I”

I swallowed hard as my eyes down my face.

    O

darted around the room in a bid to fight back the tears that threatened to stream

“Now, I could tell you all about how I got my powers but that would

your time as well as mine.”

“What—what do you want?” I blinked back the tears and she smiled.

    “Now we’re talking.”

“You and I basically want the same thing,” our gaze met and I swallowed the painful lump in my throat as I had a vague idea of what she wanted.

    “Lucien,” she smiled.

“I don’t care about bing Luna anymore. I never cared about that. I just wanted Lucien–I really loved him.”

I swallowed hard, wondering what exactly she needed my help for. I didn’t think Lucien cared about me

anymore and I sure as hell was not about to go through any of this again. I just wanted to take my children and get out of Silverpine forever.

“So, here’s what I want your help with. I want to go back to Silverpine–as you-,” She was still talking when I interrupted her.

I didn’t understand what she meant by going to Silverpine as me.

    “What-”

She raised her hand to stop me. “Let me finish.”

I nodded. “I will take your face, but doing that alone isn’t enough. Lucien will know that it isn’t you—he won’t feel the bond. So I need that bond and in order to do that, we’ll swap bodies–”

I didn’t let her finish as I shook my head rapidly. I should’ve trusted my guts that were screaming at me to move away from her.

    “No–no, no, no,” I disagreed.

I knew that a magic so strong like that woulde with repercussions and there was something off about her. She had changed and for all I knew, she was even worse than Rielle.

Would only be for some days–weeks maybe but I assure

“Don’t worry, you won’t be hurt. I assure you that and it you that I will give you back your body,” she promised and I scoffed.

    “How can I trust you?”

“Don’t. I said it before. Don’t trust anybody. Just risk it, after all, I’ll help you protect your other child in Silverpine and I’ll tell you where Kai is after we swap.”

I thought about it for a while. I would have my children, but my face would be gone, reced with hers. I would be able to move about freely as much as I wanted without fear of being seen.

It was a risk I was willing to take, after all I had nothing else to lose.
