Chapter 908: Chapter 908: What Can You Guarantee

"If Senior Brother Dales hadn’t spent money to buy me as this modity,’ I would have been bought by an old man. I don’t know if Senior Brother Dales might bring me any trouble by doing this, but without him, I would be in trouble now."
"Young Master Saxon, speaking of trouble, haven’t you brought me more trouble?"
"If your mom finds out you came to Fort City to find me, will she think I’m seducing you again, and decide I’m no good? Where will she try to sell me off to next time?"
Her words were relentless, like she was interrogating him, yet mocking him simultaneously.
Maxwell Saxon’s face turned pale from her stinging words: "Scarlett, it won’t happen again. Never again. I promise you this will never happen again."
He spoke decisively, solemnly giving her his promise.
After moving out of Saxon Mansion, May Denton went to see him.
Initially, mother and son argued, faces tense, over Scarlett Yates, but the night he moved out, May called him.
Though it wasn’t an apology, she admitted she shouldn’t have done those things to Scarlett Yates and promised that she wouldn’t interfere in his romantic matters in the future.
"Promise? What do you have to guarantee?" Her reaction to his promise was cold.
She still didn’t believe him.
But Maxwell Saxon understood.
After all that happened, she must be scared and angry, unwilling to easily trust him again, and understandably so.
He pursed his lips and stayed silent for a moment, then solemnly repeated, "Scarlett, mom won’t interfere with my love life anymore. I’ve made it clear to her that if she everys hands on you, she’ll lose me."
He spoke slowly, each word deliberate: "She knows I always keep my promises. She might not care about your life, but she won’t disregard me."
Maxwell Saxon had issued many threats before, but he never imagined he’d take such a hard line with May Denton.
He was fearful of losing her.
So afraid of it that he was willing to use himself as leverage to threaten his closest kin.
He was truly terrified that this kind of situation might happen again.
As he said, she was lucky this time, but what about next time? Would she have good luck then?
Scarlett Yates initially intended to dismiss whatever he said as a joke, to hear but not truly believe.
But hearing those words from Maxwell Saxon’s mouth still made her pause.
She showed slight surprise on her face, freezing for a few seconds. Once she suppressed her initial shock, she frowned and spoke in a still cold tone, "For Young Master Saxon to say that, perhaps next time she’ll directly want my life. For a filial son like Young Master to defy and threaten her for a woman, that woman indeed deserves death."
"It won’t happen, Scarlett." Maxwell Saxon promised once again, "She won’t touch you anymore. I know you won’t believe anything I say now, but you will eventually."
Scarlett Yates appeared uninterested in his words, her expression listless, frowning slightly: "We’ll leave future matters for the future. Maxwell Saxon, you said you’d tell me about Matthew Saxon. Are you true to your word? If you just tricked me into having a meal with you, I have no reason to stay."
She was direct.
She was willing to sit here with him only because he imed to have news about Matthew Saxon.
Otherwise, she would get up and leave without hesitation.
