260/262: Sirens
Althea hesitated for a moment, unsure whether she should tell Gavriel what she had been seeing. But given the circumstances, it felt like a sign that she needed to tell him everything.
“Angels,” she continued softly. “I can see who has angels around them and who doesn’t. When I woke up, I lost the ability to hear or read minds, but I started seeing angels… and unclean spirits too. Things that aren’t visible to everyone.”
She offered him a small, reassuring smile. “I have a powerful angel with me right now, so you don’t need to worry. Aurus will take care of me.”
“Aurus?” Gavriel repeated sharply. “A male angel?”
“They’re genderless,” she replied with a small pout.
Before he could say anything else, the loud horn of the ship suddenly red, sounding like a distress signal.
Gavriel immediately grabbed his sword. He leaned down, kissed Althea on the lips, and said firmly, “Stay here. Rudy, Ben, and Trudis will be outside the cabin to protect you.”
Althea nodded, watching as Gavriel hurried out of the cabin.
She nced toward the hiddenpartment behind the shelf but chose not to go inside.
Instead, she turned to the presence beside her.
The angel appeared as a winged lion, yet he could speak, and his voice sounded male. “You said we’ll win this battle, right?” she asked quietly.
Aurus nodded. “The Almighty God is with the King of Lunaris as long as he continues to have faith in Him and walks in His ways. All his enemies will be destroyed, because God will fight alongside him.”
“You should continue your rest. I will guard and protect you,” Aurus added.
Althea smiled, grateful. For some reason, she crawled back onto the bed instead. She truly felt safe, and not to mention, exhaustion was still weighing heavily on her body.
With a peaceful heart, she closed her eyes, confident that she was well protected and that her husband would ovee whatever battle awaited him outside the cabin. Perhaps it was the overflowing faith within her, but she knew that no matter what happened, she was safe.

Outside, Gavriel saw sirens in their deformed humanoid forms climbing onto the ship while his men fought them off. Steel shed, and bodies fell into the sea. Some sirens that managed to get aboard suddenly took flight, unching themselves into the air.
Gavriel locked eyes with Osman just as a siren lunged toward him. He moved instantly, slicing the creature in
half.
“Your Majesty!” one of his men shouted from behind.
Gavriel turned just in time to see another siren leaping at him with a spear. But before it could reach him, the

creature was suddenly split cleanly in two, as if cut by an invisible de crackling with lightning.
Gavriel froze for a fraction of a second, staring at the empty space where the siren had been. Then two more lunged straight toward him.
Before either could reach him, the same thing happened again. One was cleaved cleanly in half. The other suddenly burst into mes, its scream cut short as it burned to ash.
Gavriel’s breath hitched. It was as if invisible forces were fighting around him, intercepting every threat before it could evene close.
His brows furrowed as Althea’s words echoed in his mind. ‘You have angels around you.’
Then Elior’s voice surfaced in his thoughts as well. ‘As long as you do not waver in your faith and continue serving the one true God, you and your kingdom will prosper… and all your enemies will be destroyed.’
Gavriel tightened his grip on his sword. Perhaps… he was never truly alone in this battle.
With renewed determination, Gavriel surged forward alongside his men, cutting down every monster that attempted to board the ship.
His gaze snapped toward Althea’s cabin. He saw Rudy, and Trudis holding their positions, efficiently eliminating any threats that drew too close to where Althea was.
Relief barely had time to settle before his eyes darted to the side of the cabin where a small veranda was located. It was empty. Rudy was forced away from his post as he fought them off.
His heart mmed violently against his chest.
“Rudy, the balcony!” Gavriel shouted as he sprinted toward the upper deck.
Rudy reacted instantly, but at the same time, numerous sirens, most of them male, began climbing toward the same spot, surrounding him. More sirens flooded in,pletely blocking his path.
Panic surged through Gavriel’s veins.
He forced his way forward, striking down every creature that blocked his path, his de shing as bodies fell around him.
Rudy managed to stop most of the creatures from going near Althea’s ce. But one slipped through.
Gavriel burst into the cabin, chest heaving, ready to cut the intruder down before it could get anywhere near Althea.
Instead, he froze.
The creature had already been reduced to ashes. His eyes flew around the room. Then he saw her. Althea was lyingfortably on the bed, fast asleep.
He rushed to her side. “Althea… are you alright?” he whispered urgently, scanning her from head to toe.
She stirred slightly but did not open her eyes. “I’m fine. Go back and finish things outside. Aurus will take care of me. I’m really sleepy… He said I can sleep more…”

Gavriel’s lips parted. He did not know whether tough or scold her as he stared at his peacefully sleeping wife. But beneath it all, he felt nothing but relief that she was safe.
Then the deep st of the horn echoed across the ship, signaling that the battle had ended.
They had won. Gavriel released a heavy sigh of relief.
“Your Majesty, we captured a few who are still alive. What should we do with them?” Rudy reported as he stepped to Gavriel’s side.
Gavriel turned and headed out onto the deck, where several sirens were forced to their knees, restrained and bleeding.
“Sirens are demonic creatures,” Gavriel said coldly. “They bring nothing but chaos into this world. Eliminate them all.”
One of the sirens lifted its head, eyes glowing faintly. “King of Lunaris, be careful with your choice. If I were you, I would form a pact with our king, or you will suffer the consequences of going against us. Hand over your woman, and you and your kingdom will enjoy peaceful and prosperous journeys across the seas. But if you ignore our king’s message, then you-”
The siren’s head hit the deck as Gavriel swiftly decapitated it with his sword.
“Kill all of them and throw their bodies back into the ocean,” Gavriel growled.
Then he turned to his men and added with authority, “We have only one covenant, and that is to trust and serve the one true God who created heaven and earth. Hemands that all darkness be destroyed. Any creature thates from, or worships, demons or the devil must be eliminated without hesitation.”
His words rang with absolute conviction.
“You are making a mistake! You will regret this!” one of the sirens shouted.
But Gavriel had already turned away.
He was not making a mistake. He was firm in his decision and in the path he had chosen to walk ever since Althea woke up.
