"When all this is over, I''ll give you a long break. Take some time for your family, and maybe we''ll get away somewhere overseas, just to clear our heads."
"Okay. Thanks, Reese."
After she ended the call, Reese passed Vivian''s message to Matthew. There was a spark of hope in her eyes.
"Matthew, we finally have a lead. If we can get our hands on that key file, all the answers will be right in front of us."
Seeing the light in her gaze, Matthew felt something gentle settle in his heart. He reached out, brushing his hand softly through her hair, his voice warm and certain.
"You''re right. What matters now is getting that file as soon as possible, and finding out where the candidate is. We can''t let Nathaniel or Bailey get another chance."
"I already talked to Hank," Reese replied. "We''re meeting tonight at eight, at a coffee shop near the old house. We''ll exchange information."
"I''ming with you," Matthew said without hesitation. His tone left no room for argument.
"I can''t let you take this risk alone."
"Alright." Reese didn''t try to argue. She nodded, resting against his chest. "But promise me you won''t overdo it. Take care of yourself, okay?"
"For you, I will," Matthew whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. The moment was sweet, but there was a fierce determination in his eyes.
By seven-thirty that night, Matthew and Reese were on their way to the coffee shop.
The car glided through the city, neon lights flickering outside the windows.
Matthew traced soft circles on the back of Reese''s hand, his touch gentle and steady. His voice was quiet.
"There''s no need to be nervous. I''m right here. Nothing''s going to happen. Hank has woken up to the truth. He wants the same things we do. We can trust him for now, but we still need to be cautious."
Reese nced up at him, her lips curling into a small smile.
"I''m not nervous. As long as you''re here, I''m not afraid of anything. And I''ll be careful with Hank."
She knew Matthew never trusted people easily and always thought things through. That was one of the things she admired most about him.
At exactly eight, their car stopped in front of the coffee shop.
A few bodyguards were already waiting. They stepped forward as Reese and Matthew got out, speaking in lowered voices.
"Mr. Wiles, Ms. Meyer, everything''s set. Nothing suspicious here. Our team is covering the cafe and the perimeter. You''re safe."
Matthew gave a nod. He took Reese''s hand and led her inside.
The coffee shop had an old-fashioned charm, with the faint scent of coffee in the air. It was quiet, and the handful of customers spoke in soft voices, keeping the atmosphere calm.
Hank was waiting in a private booth, a steaming cup of coffee in front of him. He wore a dark suit and looked worn out, his eyes ringed with red.
As soon as he saw them, Hank stood up quickly, a hint of nervousness in his eyes. "Reese..."
Reese didn''t say anything. She just nodded and sat down across from him with Matthew at her side, her expressionposed and unreadable.
Matthew spoke first.
"Mr. Meyer, let''s get straight to it. We don''t have much time. What did you find out about the overseas partnership from twenty years ago?"
Hank took a steadying breath, then pulled a stack of documents from his briefcase and set them on the table. The pages were creased from being handled so much.
"This is everything I found. Twenty years ago, the Meyer family worked with an overseaspany called Apex on something called the Voyager Project. The real owner of thatpany was Nathaniel.
"The project involved a huge amount of money, mostly import and export business. But suddenly, the project was shut down, and all the records were sealed. The official story was that the market crashed and the losses were too much.
"But what I discovered is that not long after the project ended, Nathaniel vanished. At the same
time, the Meyer Group suddenhet
received a massive sum of money that helped them survive a financial crisis. I think that money was the illegal profit from the Voyager Project. And I believe my mother was killed because she found out the truth."
