"And after everything you did, if I didn''t step in, there''s no way I could face the board," Sebastian said, leaning forward, his tone strained.
Reese let out a low, bitterugh. In the silence of the office, it sounded almost cruel. She straightened, leaning in so their eyes met, her gaze sharp enough to cut through steel. "Sebastian, are you really ying the victim here? Do you expect me to feel sorry for you? Ratcliff Global believed Tara''s lies and went after Ramos Corporation first. They cut off our loans and sent the suppliers after us. What was I supposed to do, just sit here and watch you run mypany into the ground?"
First, Ratcliff Global targeted Ramos Corporation. Then Sebastian himself dragged them through the mud with the environmental scandal. Everything she''d done was just to protect what was hers. How did he even have the nerve to stand here and throw usations at her?
"Reese, I know how much Ramos Corporation means to you. I''d never let it go under," Sebastian said, sighing like he was the one suffering.
Reese actuallyughed, sharp and loud. "Really? Because everything you''ve done has pushed us right to the edge of bankruptcy."
If Matthew hadn''t stepped in with the money and helped smooth things over, who knew what would have happened to thepany by now?
Sebastian looked taken aback. For a second, he had nothing to say. Then he collected himself and his voice turned cold. "It''s pointless to argue about this now. I can make the board back off Ramos Corporation. I can make the environmental investigation disappear."
"And?" Reese cut him off, her tone calm, like she''d seen thising a mile away.
"In return, you''ll post a statement online. Say you were wrong about me guaranteeing Leslie''s loan, that you acted without checking the facts, and publicly apologize to Ratcliff Global." He watched her with total confidence, like he couldn''t imagine her saying no.
Reese shook her head, a bitter smile ying at her lips. "Not a chance."
"Reese!" Sebastian''s voice dropped, warning clear as day. He shot to his feet, hands braced on the coffee table feaning in close Wêre "We''re
married. If Ratcliff Global goo
down, what good does that do you? And Robbie''s still waiting for us to
have another kid, to save his life."
At that, whatever was left of Reese''s humor disappeared. Her eyes turned icy as she looked up at him. Her voice was calm, but there was no warmth in it at all.
"Married? Have another kid to save Robbie? Sebastian, after everything that''s happened, do you honestly think I''d agree to that?"
The truth was, she''d never agreed to IVF to save Robbie. She''d only done it to figure out what Jane and Leslie were plotting, to draw Leslie out. Now that Leslie had been caught Jane was tangled up in the mess, and Reese had what she wanted, there was no reason to keep ying along. And as for Robbie-she knew the truth. He was never sick. God knows what Jane had promised him to convince him to fake it, just to force Reese into another pregnancy.
"Sebastian, I''m not having another child with you. And we''re getting a divorce. There''s nothing left to talk about."
"What did you just say?" Sebastian''s
body went rigid. He stared at her like
he couldn''t believe his ears. "Reese are you out of your mind? Robbie''s still in the hospital waiting for you to save hint How can you say something like that?"
"He''s waiting for me to save him?" Reese shook her head, her eyes full of scorn. "Sure, you and he both carry the gene for the disease. But has Robbie ever even gotten sick?"
Her words hit Sebastian like a p, leaving him stunned and speechless.
