This was the child she carried for nine months, her own flesh and blood. God only knew what Jane had promised him to get him so ready to plot against her.
But this time, they were in for a disappointment.
She had no intention of ying along with their ns.
Jane was watching Reese stare at Robbie, her face calm and unreadable—not a trace of happiness or sadness. The uncertainty made Jane uneasy, a bad feeling creeping up her spine.
Worried that Reese would suddenly change her mind, Jane jumped in. "Reese, if you''re trying for another baby, you really need to take care of yourself.
"You''ve lost so much weighttely. Why don''t you quit your job and move back to the family house for a while? I''ll ask the kitchen to make you some nourishing soups. It''ll do you good."
Reese raised an eyebrow.
She''d guessed it. Jane was so eager to get her out of ckOak-no doubt Leslie was behind it.
"I''m not quitting. Not right now."
She caught the quick sh of disappointment on Jane''s face and couldn''t help but let a teasing smile tug at her lips.
"Even if I do need to focus on having a baby, I have to wrap up my work first. I can''t just leave everything hanging. Give me a few days."
"And about moving back-I''m good. I already have a ce to stay."
Jane''s smile stiffened for a second, but she quickly smoothed it over, pretending not to care. "Alright, alright, whatever you say. Stay wherever you like."
As long as Reese agreed to have another baby, Jane figured she''d have enough time to make all those documents Reese was holding ontopletely useless.
Once Reese left ckOak, Jane could finally answer to Leslie.
Reese didn''t miss the scheming glint in Jane''s eyes. The air in the hospital room felt thick and suffocating, making her stomach turn. She wasn''t going to waste another minute here.
She nced at Robbie, her voice cool. "Take care. Call me if you need anything."
The moment Reese left, Jane grabbed Sebastian''s arm, anxious. "What does she mean? Did she agree or not?"
Sebastian hesitated, then said, "She''ll probably have another baby."
But if they wanted her to suddenly forget about the divorce, that was a whole different story.
Aplicated look shed in his eyes. After thinking for a moment, he pulled out his phone and texted Brady.
"Make sure the bank cuts off Ramos Corporation''s credit line. No leaks. And get someone to put more pressure on them."
He wanted Reese to see that whatever Matthew could do, he could do better.
He''d show her his strength and sincerity. He''d prove he was the one she shoulde back to.
Eventually, he was sure she would.
Reese stepped out of the hospital and sucked in a deep breath, letting the cool air wash away some of the tension inside her.
She nced back at the hospital building, eyes icy, then turned and headed for her car, driving back to ckOak.
Half an hourter, Reese walked into the R&D team''s office. She spotted Matthew at his desk, focused on the numbers on his screen. For some reason seeing him there softened something inside her, and all the exhaustion she''d been fighting off suddenly caught up with her.
Matthew heard here in and turned around. The tired look in Reese''s eyes and her pale face made his heart clench. He quickly got up went to the water dispenser, and poured her a cup of warm water.
"Here, drink this. You don''t look so good. Did something go wrong with Ramos Corporation?"
Reese took the cup, her fingers brushing against his. The gentle warmth made her heart skip. She lowered her head and took a sip. nothing. I was just at the hospital too long. It gets stuffy in there."
The word "hospital" made Matthew even more worried. He noticed the pink flush
on her ears and reached out to check her forehead, thenpared it to his own.
"No fever..."
So why were her ears so red?
"Why were you at the hospital? Are you feeling sick?"
"I''m fine."
Reese felt her face get even hotter. She shook her head. "Not me. Robbie''s the one in the hospital."
Thinking of what happened there, her expression turned serious as she looked at Matthew.
"Matt, I need to talk to you about something."
