After the meeting broke up, Zach called his assistant over. "Dig up every shred of dirt on the Ramos family from the past few years. Also, have someone tail Tara. I want to know everywhere she goes and everyone she talks to. Don''t leave anything out. Report it all to me."
"Yes, sir."
After the assistant left, Zach lit a cigarette and leaned back, exhaling a slow stream of smoke toward the ceiling. Whatever Tara thought she knew, he wasn''t about to let this slide.
He kept reying what Tara had said at the hospital. Sitting up straighter, he grabbed his phone and tried calling Reese. The call wouldn''t go through; she''d already blocked him.
A bitter smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. Was it really over between him and Reese?
Sebastian sat in his office, scrolling through financial news on his tablet. The headlines were everywhere: "Major Twist-Ramos Corporation Clears Its Name, Tara used of Orchestrating Scandal" and "Iron Financial Reverses Ban on Ramos Corp." Photos of Reese outside the Ramos Corporation building were all over social media. She looked calm and collected, answering reporters without even a hint of panic.
A knock sounded at the door. Brady walked in.
"Boss, the Meyer family just pulled out of the acquisition. Sge not only stabilized thepany''s stock price, but also managed to kick Dylon''s people out."
"She kicked them out?" Sebastian drummed his fingers on the desk. "Where did she get the cash?"
Brady hesitated. "She... managed to secure new investment."
Sebastian scoffed. "She''s got more tricks than I thought." He felt a wave of irritation he couldn''t quite name. He''d expected Reese toe begging once her funding dried up. Instead, she''d flipped the whole situation and found new backers.
But so what?
"Stick to the n. Tell the bank to suspend Ramos Corporation''s credit line. Push the suppliers for payment."
Brady looked uneasy. "But sir, the financial regtors just started investigating ''bigpanies interfering with small business financing.'' If we move now—"
"What''s the problem?" Sebastian cut him off, his eyes cold. "I''m only asking the bank to ''reevaluate the risk it''s all by the book. As for suppliers, they''ll go where the money is. Ratcliff Global can offer
what Ramos can''t."
He wanted Reese to have no choice but toe to him and admit defeat.
Brady didn''t dare say more and slipped out the door. Sebastian''s phone lit up with
a message from Jane-a photo of Robbie, cheeks flushed with fever.
[Sebastian, Reese isn''t answering my calls. You have to get her toe see Robbie at the hospital!]
Sebastian''s frown deepened. He strode out of his office. "Get the car. We''re going
to Central Hospital. Tell Reese to meet us there."
By the time Sebastian reached the
hospital, Jane was waiting in the hallway, eyes red from crying. "Sebastian thank goodness you''re here. Please, get Reese toe see Robbie. He''s been asking for his mom. I showed him a photo of her and he just broke down."
Sebastian looked over at the hospital bed. Robbie was lying there, small and pale, with a cooling patch stuck to his forehead. He heard footsteps and slowly opened
his eyes. When he saw Sebastian, he whispered, "Daddy."
"How do you feel?" Sebastian sat beside the bed, gently touching Robbie''s forehead. He was still warm.
"I feel really bad..." Robbie''s voice shook. He sneaked a look at Jane, and when she nodded, he started to cry. "Daddy, am I going to die?"
"The doctor said I have a weird sickness. I need special stem cells to get better..."
Jane wiped her eyes. “Sebastian, he''s so young. It''s just not fair."
“Talk to Reese. Ask her to stop the divorce. If she''ll have another baby, it could save Robbie''s life."
"If she agrees, we''ll let the past go. And when ites to Ramos Corporation... you could help her out."
Sebastian stayed silent, drumming his fingers lightly on the bed frame.
Meanwhile, after wrapping things up at Ramos Corporation, Reese was already on her way to the hospital No matter what Jane was scheming, Reese knew she had to visit Robbie. If she didn''t, who knew what Jane might try behind her back?
