The news that someone had been caught smugglingpany data left her feeling weak all over.
But from the way Sebastian was talking, it sounded like that person hadn''t given her up. Instead, the me had been pushed onto Ratcliff Global.
She finally let out a shaky breath, relieved.
"What kind of data did he take? Was it that important?"
Leslie''s face was tight with worry. "Is this really the work of someone high up at Ratcliff Global, or is it just foreignpetition trying to frame them and drag their name through the mud?"
Sebastian studied Leslie, his eyes narrowing.
Her face gave nothing away, and what she said actually made sense.
They''d known each other for years. Everything he knew about her told him she wasn''t the type to get mixed up in something like this. But he couldn''t rx. People could always surprise you.
His phone buzzed. Sebastian nced at the screen and his expression changed as he read his assistant''s message.
Reese pushed Tara, and that caused her miscarriage?
Ramos Corporation was under pressure from Iron Financial, and now the Meyer family was circling, trying to snatch it up?
He knew Reese. She loved kids. There was no way she would hurt Tara''s baby.
But why was she involved with Tara and Zach again?
Just thinking about Reese''s past with Zach made his chest feel tight, like there was a rock sitting on his heart.
Did she still have feelings for Zach?
"Sebastian."
Leslie noticed he was lost in thought, staring at his phone, and assumed he''d gotten more news about the data leak.
Her heart dropped. Her face went pale, and her voice came out rushed. "Those people from headquarters are just here for a routine inspection, really. I had nothing to do with him trying to smuggle data out of the country. You have to believe me."
Sebastian looked up, his gaze cold and distant. "You''d better hope that''s true." "Leslie, I don''t ever want to see you betray your own people.
"And another thing I haven''t forgotten what I promised you. But don''t forget who you are now. Don''t do anything reckless. Don''t make me choose."
He stood up and grabbed his coat, ncing at Leslie. "I have things to take care of. Watch yourself. Don''t do anything stupid, or I won''t be able to protect you."
He was desperate to find out what had really happened at the conference, what was going on between Reese and Zach.
But more than anything, he wanted to help Reese. He needed her to know that as long as they were still married, she could always count on him.
He had no interest or patience for Leslie''s drama right now. "Sebastian-"
He ignored her and walked off without looking back.
Leslie red at his retreating figure, teeth clenched.
"Are you kidding? Did you forget it was you who vouched for Big X and ckOak and brought us all
yel
together? We''re all in this together. If go down, you''reing with me.
"And don''t forget, I got that data through your mother, Jane."
Her eyes narrowed as she realized something.
How did headquarters know to intercept at the airport? That USB was specially
made to block all signals. Unless the data itself was tampered with.
Did Jane tip off Reese, or did Reese figure it out and mess with the files herself?
Rage shed in Leslie''s eyes.
She grabbed her phone and dialed Jane.
"Jane, I have proof of all the shady things you''ve done.
"You really think you and Reese can team up and set me up? Aren''t you afraid I''ll
tell everyone what you''ve been up to?"
Jane was out in the garden watering
her flowers when the call came
through, c
< clie''s
confused by
usation. "What are you
talking about? How did I set you up?"
All week, Jane had been wracking her brain trying to figure out how to convince
Reese to have a baby. She hadn''t thought about Leslie at all.
But Leslie didn''t care. "I''m warning you-if you don''t want everyone to know what you''ve done you''d better find a way to get Reese out of her job.don''t care how you do it. Just make it happen."
