Chapter 263

No one ever expected things to end up like this. Just because of this one thing, Tara had lost her chance to ever be a mom.

Her knees buckled and she fell straight back. Dylon caught her just in time, his heart in his throat.

If Tara couldn''t have children anymore, would Zach still want to marry her?

"How could this happen? Are you sure you know what you''re doing?" he snapped at the doctors.

"Mr. Ramos, we really did everything we could," the doctor said, sighing heavily.

Wendy staggered, her voice trembling. "She can''t have kids anymore... How could Reese be so cruel? How could she do this?"

She suddenly red at Zach, eyes wet with anger. "Zach, do you see what''s happened? Reese didn''t just make Tara lose her baby-she ruined her whole life! She can''t just walk away from this. She has to pay for what she''s done."

Zach stood there, stunned, his mind going nk for a second.

The doctor''s words kept echoing in his head, each one hitting him like a hammer.

    She can''t have kids...

He remembered Tara''s smile the first time they heard the baby''s heartbeat, remembered her touching her belly and whispering about how their baby would grow up healthy. Then he thought of Reese''spletely heartless face, and all the anger he''d been stuffing down finally exploded.

    "Reese..."

He gritted his teeth, his eyes colder than ever. "Alright. Fine."

He yanked out his phone, his fingers shaking with rage as he called his assistant. His voice was icy.

"Let everyone know—from now on, anypany working with Wiles Financial will be banned from investing in Ramos Corporation or anything connected to Reese. I don''t care what project she''s running or what she''s after. If anyone helps her, they''re going against me."

The assistant hesitated for a split second, then quickly answered, "Yes, Mr. Wiles. I''ll take care of it."

When Tara finally woke up, it was almost evening. Her hand went straight to her stomach before she''d even opened her eyes. She stared up at the ceiling as tears slid quietly down her face.

    Her baby was gone.

"You''re awake," Zach said, stepping over to her bedside as soon as he saw her open her eyes.

She noticed the guilt in his face and managed a weak smile.

Looks like her n had worked after all.

The Ramos family was safe, and now she could finally marry Zach, just like she wanted.

As for the baby... she could always try again someday.

But then Tara turned her head and saw Rosie sitting in the chair nearby, tears streaming down her face. Suddenly, Tara felt a wave of dread.

    "Mom, what''s wrong?"

    Had something else happened?

"Tara, you have to stay strong," Rosie said, her eyes red and swollen as she squeezed Tara''s hand tight. "You just focus on getting bett okay? Don''t think about anything else."

"Reese took your baby, she hurt you, but Zach will make things right."

“And about having another baby..." Rosie hesitated, her voice trembling, "With all the medical advances now. you and Zach can always go abroad for surrogacy..."

Tara stared at her, confused. She and Zach could just clear things up and have a

baby themselves, so why would they need surrogacy?

She looked at Zach, but he avoided her eyes and turned to Dylon instead.

"Dad, I''m stepping out for a smoke."

Tara''s heart sank. She gripped Rosie''s hand even tighter. "Mom, please. What''s going on? What did the doctor say?"

"Tara, the doctor said... your uterus was badly damaged. You... you won''t be able

to have children anymore," Rosie said, bursting into tears again.

    Never have children again?

    My uterus is damaged?

Rosie''s words kept reying in Tara''s mind, squeezing her heart until she could barely breathe.

How could this happen... How could this really be happening?

Tears kepting, soaking her pillow. Tara thought of the little life she''d never get to meet, realized she''d never get to be a mom, and her broken sobs filled the quiet room

as grief washed over her, wave after wave.
