"Otherwise... you know exactly what''ll happen."
Jane squeezed the little ck box in her hand, her face tight and pale as she watched Leslie walk away down the hall.
The next morning, Reese was on her way to ckOak when her phone rang. It was the front desk.
"Reese, Mrs. Ratcliff just arrived. She says it''s urgent. Should I send her up?"
Reese frowned. The court date was tomorrow. Just one more day and she''d finally be free from Sebastian. Why was Jane showing up now? Was it about the shares, or something else?
She paused for a second, then said quietly, "Okay. I''ll be right there."
Half an hourter, Reese pushed open the door to the research team''s office. Jane was sitting stiffly on the couch, clutching a folder.
Jane managed a strained smile. "Reese. Morning."
Reese''s eyesnded on the folder. Her voice was cool. "What do you want?"
Jane handed over the documents. "I know you want to divorce Sebastian. If you sign this agreement, I''ll convince him to go through with it. After that, you''ll never have to deal with us again."
Reese took the folder and skimmed through it. The first use jumped out; she wasn''t allowed to transfer her shares to anyone else. Reese let out a coldugh.
Then she saw the second use: only Robbie could inherit the shares. Her patience snapped.
"I''m not signing this. Those shares were left to me. I''ll decide what to do with them."
Jane''s face fell. She was only here because Leslie told her toe, and this agreement was just a way to test Reese''s reaction. She wanted to make sure Reese wouldn''t ever team up with Matthew, but she hadn''t expected Reese to be so direct.
Jane stepped forward and grabbed Reese''s arm as she turned to leave.
"Reese, I just want to make sure the Ratcliff Global shares stay in the
family. If you sign this you will get your divorce. Isn''t that what you want?"
Reese shifted away, but Jane took the chance to slip the little ck box into Reese''s coat pocket.
As soon as she felt it was in ce, Jane let herself breathe again, then put on a show of anger.
"Reese, don''t be so stubborn. I''ll give you a fan more days to think
it. If you don''t agree, I''ll never abou
Sebastian divorce your Conten
With that, she stormed out of the office.
Reese watched her leave, one eyebrow raised. She reached into her pocket and
felt something small and unfamiliar.
She pulled out the ck box, eyed it for a second, and smirked. Nice try.
Someone had really gone to some trouble for this.
But if Leslie thought this little gadget would get her into de''s data, she was dreaming.
Jane had no idea Reese had already found the device. She walked out of ckOak, pulled out her phone, and sent Leslie a message.
[It''s done. The device is in Reese''s coat pocket.]
Across town, Leslie read the message and smiled. She walked over to her office bookshelf, slid one of the books aside and the shelf moved revealing a hidden room packed with equipment.
Inside, a man was waiting.
"It''s done. The transmitter is in Reese''s pocket. The next part is up to you."
The man grinned. "Perfect. Once I get de''s core data, you can leave this country."
A slow, satisfied smile spread across Leslie''s lips.
He was out of prison now. As soon as she got her visa, she''d finally leave the country—and leave that man behind, for good.
