Chapter 241

Robbie was seriously starting to wish he hadn''t tagged along with Sebastian to apologize to Reese.

That whole scene just now clearly stung Sebastian; it left Robbie feeling off, too. He couldn''t stop thinking about how his mom used to smile at him-gentle and warm, a smile meant just for him. Even around his dad, she always seemed a little distant.

But when was thest time she smiled at him like that?

Sebastian kept staring after Reese, like he was trying to burn a hole through the door she''d just walked out of. For the first time, he realized how genuinely kind her smile could be. Gone was the guardedness she wore around the Ratcliffs and the icy indifference she showed him. It''s just real, easy happiness.

The thought made Sebastian tug at his cor, restless. He slid behind the wheel and started the car.

Let her be happy or not he didn''t care. She was already his wife, and no matter what she thought, he wasn''t ever letting her go. Divorce? Not happening.

The ck Bentley slipped away as quietly as it hade.

Sebastian drove like a man possessed, so fast that Robbie had to hold on tight to his seatbelt in the back, his face turning ghostly pale.

By the time they got back to the old manor, both of them looked like they''d just walked through a thunderstorm. Jane stood up from the sofa as soon as she saw them.

"Where have you two been? Do you realize howte it is? Did you even eat dinner?"

Sebastian didn''t say a word. He shrugged off his jacket and handed it to a maid, shot Jane a look colder than ice, and headed straight upstairs.

The re made Jane flinch, and she instinctively turned to Robbie.

"Where did your dad take you?"

"We went to see Mom," Robbie mumbled.

Jane''s heart dropped. She nced up the staircase, then back at Robbie, who lookedpletely defeated.

"What did your mom say? Is she still going through with the divorce?"

"We didn''t really get a chance to talk," Robbie said, shaking his head. Thinking about Reese''s smile just made him feel even more mixed up. "Grandma... honestly, I think it might be better if Dad and Mom get divorced."

Dad obviously still had feelings for Mom. Even if they split, Robbie doubted his dad would get remarried anytime soon. And if his parents weren''t together, maybe his dad wouldn''t be so angry all the time, taking it out on him.

Jane let out a long sigh. If it weren''t for the shares Reese held in Ratcliff Global, she probably would''ve wanted the divorce too. But Reese was so close to Matthew and his daughter, and if those two got together, thepany would be in chaos.

"Ma''am, Aiden''s here. He said he has something for you."

The butler''s voice snapped Jane out of her thoughts. She smoothed her clothes and gently pulled Robbie to sit with her.

    "Let him in."

Aiden stepped into the living room and handed Jane a will with a gold-embossed cover.

"Ma''am, this is the will Mr. Ratcliff left before he passed. There''s a copy at the notary and one with thewyer. This one''s for you. Mr. Ratcliff wanted it brought out after Ms. Meyer and Mr. Ratcliff''s divorce."

Jane epted it without much interest and Hipped through the pages. She''d known about the will ever since thewyer caffe to the hospital after Mr. Ratcliff died. Reese getting a share of Ratcliff Global was already set in stone.

Then her eyesnded on one line.

He hadn''t just left Reesepany shares; he''d officially made her his god- granddaughter?

So if Reese and Sebastian divorced, she''d be Sebastian and Matthew''s god-sister.

Jane''s hands trembled as the truth hit her. With that rtionship in ce, there was no way Reese could ever marry Matthew.

    This was perfect.

Even if Reese left the Ratcliffs with her shares, she''d never be a threat to Sebastian.
