Chapter 230

Reese stared at the grandmother and grandson, who were putting on their little show, and couldn''t help but feel the whole thing was painfully ironic.

Kids really do turn out just like the people who raise them, she thought. With Jane''s influence, Robbie was already a pro at putting his own interests above everything else.

All thesest-minute apologies and promises were just because of the shares her grandfather left her. She wasn''t stupid.

"Do you two even hear yourselves?" Reese''s voice was cool and sharp. “Isn''t it ridiculous?"

She stared Jane straight in the eye, each word steady and clear. "I''m divorcing Sebastian. I''m leaving the Ratcliff family. Nothing you say will change my mind."

She didn''t bother ncing at their miserable faces. She just turned and walked away.

The elevator doors slid open, then closed.

Sebastian came rushing down the hallway, catching sight of Reese''s icy expression and his stunned family behind her. He narrowed his eyes, reaching out to grab her wrist.

    "Where are you going? Grandpa..."

Before he could finish, Reese yanked her arm free. Her eyes were cold, like she didn''t even know him.

"Where I go has nothing to do with you. Your grandfather''s gone. If you hurry, maybe you''ll get to see him onest time."

Two text alerts chimed at the same time. Sebastian ignored his phone, just staring at Reese, anxiety twisting in his chest.

Grandpa was dead? What did that mean for him and Reese?

Reese nced at her phone. After checking the messages a couple of times, a small, satisfied smile yed on her lips.

It was a court notice. Their divorce hearing was set for three days from now.

She looked up at Sebastian, the smile lingering. "Check your phone. We''ll see each other in court in three days."

Sebastian''s eyes went wide. The air around him seemed to freeze.

He wanted to ask her if she really meant it, if they had to end like this, but Reese didn''t give him the chance. She turned and headed for the elevator, leaving nothing but her determination behind.

Jane watched everything, her hope that Sebastian might convince Reese to stay disappearing as quickly as it came. Her face turned even paler.

She hurried over to Sebastian, voice urgent. "Sebastian, did you hear her?

"Reese isn''t bluffing. She''s serious about the divorce. You have to do something!"

Sebastian shot her a cold look, his voice low. "What did Grandpa say before he died?"

Jane remembered the old man''sst words. "He said... it wasn''t Reese''s. We were wrong about her all along..."

"I know she didn''t hurt Grandpa." Sebastian nced at the closed elevator doors. Jane froze. He''d known all along?

Did he know Leslie was the one who hurt grandfather? Jane remembered how, before the wedding Sebastian

    had fought with his

    grandfather just

so he could be with Leslie instead of Reese.

    A chill ran through her.

Leslie had killed Mr. Ratcliff and made Jane me Reese. Now everything had spiraled, Reese was ready to leave with her shares, and the Ratcliff family was about to lose her for good.

Jane wanted to tear Leslie apart, but if she told Sebastian now, would he still believe her?

She swallowed the rest of her words and forced herself to calm down.

    "What else did Grandpa say?"

Sebastian''s eyes were dark, still fixed on the hospital room.

Jane pressed her lips together, hesitated, then shook her head. "Nothing else. He

    just left Reese some shares."

Looks like she''d have to handle Leslie herself.

    Sebastian just nodded.
