Rosie''s face drained of color. She pressed herself against the wall, barely managing to stay on her feet. Her mind was spinning out of control.
What now?
What was she supposed to do?
Lost and panicked, she nced at Tara, silently begging her to have a n.
Tara sat up straighter on the hospital bed, thinking for a second before saying, "Mom, don''t freak out for now. Call Leslie. Get her here."
"Do you really think that''ll help?" Rosie''s voice shook. “Sebastian cares so much about Leslie. If he finds out what happened, he might let Leslie off the hook ande after us instead.
"If that happens, we''ll have to deal with Zach and Sebastian''s anger at the same time. The Ramos family would be finished."
Tara thought back to herst call with Leslie. "Trust me, as soon as Leslie hears about this, she''ll get involved. She won''t just sit back.
"If she really believed Sebastian loved her, she wouldn''t have risked trying to kill Mr. Ratcliff, and then tried to pin it all on Reese.
"I bet she wants Sebastian to hate Reese, push her into a divorce, and then take her ce.
"Right now, she has more reason than any of us to keep the old man unconscious -she''s the one who tried to kill him."
Rosie nodded, almost feverishly. "You''re right. She''ll have to do something."
When Leslie got the call, she''d just finished reporting to her overseas contact about the de project''s core data.
The second Rosie told her that the nurse had spilled everything about cutting the oxygen line, Leslie was so furious she almost couldn''t breathe. In her head, she cursed the nurse for being so weak and useless.
Then she heard the military medical team was arriving soon and Mr. Ratcliff might wake up, and Leslie''s nerves kicked into overdrive.
Sebastian could never find out she was the one behind it.
She forced herself to sound calm and steady. "Understood. Send the nurse to Constance Hospital. I''ll have someone pick her up and make sure she''s safe."
The moment she hung up, her calm melted away. A cold, ruthless look shed in her eyes.
Constance Hospital looked like a fancy private clinic backed by international investors. In reality, it belonged to her spy organization. Once the nurse ser foot inside, Lesire had plenty of ways to make sure she disappeared, and Sebastian would never find her.
As for Sebastian...
Leslie sank onto the sofa, drumming her fingers on the armrest.
Robbie was too young to handle
anything, Jane had been sent abroad by Sebastian. If she could just get sebastian out of the way when Mr. Ratcliff woke up and stick to her story, she might actually get away with everything.
Even if Sebastian got suspiciouster, as long as he had no real proof, and considering she''d saved his life before, he probably wouldn''t do anything to her.
The next morning, Reese woke up to a call from the hospital. The military doctors had arrived and were already meeting with the staff.
She rushed through her morning routine and drove straight to the hospital She thought she''d see Matthew, but when she got to the
doors, only Sebastian was there.
She hurried down the hall, and Sebastian looked up, catching the sh of disappointment in her eyes. He gave her a cold, mocking smile.
"Looking for Matthew? Sorry, he''s not here. Must be a letdown.
"You''re so determined to divorce me. Is it just so you can run off with him?
"Was Zach not enough? Now you''re after Matthew too? Reese, are you really that desperate for a man?"
Reese took a long breath, trying to keep calm. "Sebastian, I want a divorce
because I''ve lost all faith in you. It has nothing to do with anyone else.
"And you? You''ve always had plenty of women around. You''re thest person who should judge me."
Sebastianughed, but his eyes were ice cold.
"Funny. I never realized you were this much of a whore. Guess all those years of ying the good wife were just an act."
A sharp pain shot through Reese''s chest. She let out a bitterugh.
So, after everything she''d done for the Ratcliff family, this was all she got from Sebastian. He tossed her loyalty aside like it meant nothing.
As they stood there, tense and silent, the ICU doors opened. A military doctor stepped out, looking serious.
