Sebastian pressed his lips together. "Grandpa, Reese didn''t drug me back then. Why didn''t you ever tell me?"
"You already know?" His grandfather let Sebastian help him into the police station.
"I do." Sebastian nced at the interrogation room. "I heard she even called the police that year, but you covered it up, didn''t you? And her marrying me was your arrangement too, right? Why did you keep quiet all these years?"
"Sebastian, does knowing the real story really change anything for you?"
Just then, the door to the interrogation room swung open and Reese walked out, flexing her wrist.
Sebastian opened his mouth. He wanted to say it did matter, that if he''d known the truth, he wouldn''t have hated her, wouldn''t have let her go through all that pain. But when he met her eyes-cold, mocking, so distant-every word died in his throat.
"Reese, I''m sorry," Mr. Ratcliff said, brushing off Sebastian''s hand and moving toward her, eyes drifting to her belly. "Come back to the house with me. Don''t bother with this foolish boy. Tomorrow, I''ll take you to the hospital myself and make sure the baby is alright."
Sebastian looked down. "I''ll make time to go with you tomorrow."
Reese stared at the two of them, suddenly feeling like the whole thing was a joke.
They never cared about her. All they cared about was the child she was carrying.
If she was really that baby''s mother, maybe she''d feel lucky. But this child had nothing to do with her at all.
If they found out she''d gotten rid of it weeks ago, what would their faces look like then?
Just two more weeks. That was all she needed.
"No, Grandpa. I''m fine," Reese said, stepping back to avoid Mr. Ratcliff''s hand. She looked straight at Sebastian.
"Sebastian, let''s get a divorce."
She''d had enough. She couldn''t take one more day of this.
Even if she didn''t have all the evidence to prove Sebastian was just using her as
a surrogate, just exposing what she knew would be enough to ruin him.
"You can''t get divorced!"
Right then, Dylon and Rosie came rushing in, having just gotten out of their car. They exchanged a quick, worried look.
"Reese, don''t do anything rash!" Rosie hurried over. "Every couple has fights. Don''t talk about divorce so easily. Your uncle and me are
alway
ys here for you. Let''s just talk it out, okay?"
She reached for Reese''s arm, dropping her voice. "Reese, think about the family business. Think about how much the Ratcliffs have helped us. You can''t just walk away from this."
Reese ignored her, stepping aside and turning her sharp gaze on Dylon. "Ramos Corporation is already bankrupt. You still need the Ratcliffs'' help?"
"Haven''t you leeched enough off me all these years? Can''t you even leave me thest thing my mom left behind?"
Dylon started to sweat. "Reese, I didn''t have a choice. In Bridger Lake, if Mr. Ratcliff wants something, he gets it."
And honestly, he needed Sebastian''s help tond the east side project. If
Sebastian wanted the house, he could have it.
Catching Mr. Ratcliff''s icy re, Dylon quickly changed his tone. "Reese, I''m your uncle. I raised you all these years. You know how important that project is to me..."
"So what? Me, my mom, Grandpa, even Ramos Corporation-we''re all worth less than some real estate deal to you?"
Reese let out a coldugh. "I''m not letting you off the hook for what you did to Ramos Corporation."
"Reese, wait!" Dylon tried to chase after her as she marched out of the station.
"Let her go," Rosie snapped, her face souring as she watched Reese leave. "That house is already sold. Let''s see what she can do now."
She shot Dylon a re. "I told you from the start, we never should''ve taken her in. We should''ve sent her
back to the Meyers in Brookfield. But кто
no, you had to keep her, and now
look-this is the girl we raised."
"Brookfield?" Sebastian stepped out just in time to catch their conversation, his brows knitting in confusion. What did Reese have to do with the Meyers in Brookfield?
"Well." Rosie forced a smile. "Bailey Meyer is her father. You married Reese, so
the Ratcliffs are basically connected to the Meyers now."
"Reese is Bailey''s daughter?" Disbelief shed in Sebastian''s eyes.
So... Sofia was actually her half-sister.
