Eleanor scrolled up. Ian had first asked if she needed a ride, then decided toe over anyway. He was about to arrive.
Eleanor replied, [Don''t worry about it, I''ll drive myself.]
She waited a moment, but when he didn''t reply, she grabbed her bag and headed out.
Just as she stepped out of theb''s main lobby, a tall figure silhouetted by the setting sun appeared outside.
Who else could it be butn?
The receptionist hurried over to greet him. "Mr. Goodwin, wee."
"I''m here to pick up Dr. Sutton,?n replied pleasantly, his eyes fixed on Eleanor as
he asked with concern, "Are you finished with your work?"
"Yes, just finished." Eleanor nodded, adding apologetically, "Sorry, I lost track of time."
As soon as the two of them left, the reception area erupted in excited chatter.
"Oh my god! Are they getting back together? Did you see the way Mr. Goodwin looked at Dr. Sutton? It was so tender!"
"I''m telling you, with a brilliant and beautiful ex-wife like Dr. Sutton, Mr. Goodwin won''t be interested in anyone else!"
"But Dr. Sutton and Dr. Kingsley were a good match too! I was totally shipping them!"
"But Mr. Goodwin probably has a better chance since they have a daughter together."
At that moment, Eleanor was too tired to drive and got inton''s car. She assumed he was taking her directly to the hotel, but half an hourter, the car pulled up in front of a formalwear boutique.
Eleanor frowned. "Why are we here?"
"Go pick out a gown. There''s still time,"n said in a low voice.
Eleanor wanted to refuse, feeling it was too much trouble, but they were already here andn was insistent. Besides, it was his grandmother''s birthday celebration, and dressing formally was a sign of respect.
"Alright, wait for me," Eleanor relented, epting his arrangement.
The boutique manager personally greeted her at the door and led her directly to the VIP room.
"Miss Sutton, these have been selected ording to your tastes and
measurements. Please take a look." The manager gestured for an assistant to
present a rack of ten evening gowns.
Eleanor nced at them. Without exception, they were all high-end gowns of superior quality and exquisite design.
Deciding she should wear
something more festive for the
asion, she chose a
champagne-colored silk gown. The
style was simple, but the tailoring
was superb and the color.
gentle yet dignified, perfect for family dinner.
After making her choice, Eleanor didn''t waste any time. She changed into the gown and came out for makeup. A stylist''s skilled hands applied a look thatplemented the dress on her beautiful face.
In the mirror, her skin looked wless and hershes were perfectly curled. Her long hair was styled into soft waves, shedding her usual stern and cool demeanor and making her appear more gentle and elegant.
"Miss Sutton, are you satisfied?" the stylist asked.
Eleanor looked at her reflection and nodded in satisfaction. "Thank you, you''ve done a wonderful job."
The stylist thought to herself that it was mainly because the client was naturally beautiful; the makeup was just an enhancement. She followed the gossip columns, so of course, she knew who Eleanor was conce the wife of the wealthiest man, now a genius researcher.
Eleanor descended the stairs, carrying her purse. The hem of her dress swayed with every step, catching the light in a way that made her look effortlessly elegant.
His gaze froze on the figure descending the staircase. He had always known Eleanor was beautiful, but when she was dressed up, she was even more stunning. Right now, she was so beautiful he could hardly look away.
"Let''s go," Eleanor said to him.
Eleanor, holding her purse, instinctively reached down to lift the long hem of her gown as they walked out, afraid she might trip.
