Chapter 1430

That night, Eleanory in bed with her daughter. Evelyn was sleeping soundly in her arms, but Eleanor couldn''t fall asleep. She put in her earbuds, took out her phone, and scrolled through social media for thetest updates.

Since very little had been released, there wasn''t much news about the fire. Eleanor put her phone down and closed her eyes to rest.

The next morning, Serena came to pick up Evelyn at eight o''clock. Since Eleanor had to work and it was summer vacation, the Goodwin family had offered to take care of Evelyn.

Watching her daughter happily take Serena''s hand to leave, Eleanor said, "Serena, thank you."

Serena paused, then smiled. "Ellie, don''t be silly. You don''t need to thank me for this."

With that, she led Evelyn away.

At seven that evening, Eleanor arrived at Goodwin Manor for dinner after leaving theb. As she sat on the sofa, her phone buzzed with a notification. She picked it up and saw it was a message fromn.

    [What are you up to?]

Eleanor typed back a reply. [How are things over there? Is everything okay?]

A secondter, her phone rang. Ian was calling her directly.

Eleanor took the call and walked out of the living room into the garden. "Hello?"

"The preliminary investigation indicates it was arson. They found the three missing workers. None of them made it. There are twelve injured patients being treated at the hospital. We''re currently in talks with the local government aboutpensation and next steps."

Eleanor''s heart clenched, her fingers tightening around her phone. Three workers had died? This was no longer just property damage; it was a major industrial ident that had surely caused social unrest in the area.

"Arson? Have they caught anyone?" Eleanor asked.

"They''ve narrowed it down to a few former employees who were fired for operational vitions. The local police are investigating,"n''s voice sounded tired and heavy. "The biggest problem now isn''t thepensation, but the fact that some local factions are trying to use this as leverage to pressure the government into shutting down our nt. It could affect our future industrialyout in Cliffmoor."

Eleanor could hear theplexity and danger in the situation. This went beyond a simple ident; it involved a deeper conflict of interests, possibly involving foreign powers.

"You—" Eleanor bit her lip, finally saying the words that had been swirling in her mind. "You have to be careful. Please, stay safe."

On the other end of the line, she heard his breath catch. He responded in a low voice, "Yeah, I know. I will. Don''t worry."

Eleanor wasn''t sure what else to say. She knewn was very capable of handling problems.

"Don''t worry about Evelyn. We''ll take good care of her," Eleanor said.

"Tell her Daddy will be back soon,"n''s voice softened.

"You should get some rest. Contact me after you''ve handled things." Eleanor could hear the exhaustion in his voice. He had probably been dealing with this nonstop since he arrived.

"Alright. Call me anytime if you need anything,"n said, a hint of

reluctance in his tone. "I''lle back as soon as this is resolved. As for the renovations, I''ve got someone handling it. He''ll show you the ns as soon as they''re ready."

    "Okay," Eleanor replied.

Just then, Serena came over to call Eleanor for dinner. Seeing she was on the phone, she didn''t interrupt.

When Eleanor hung up, Serena couldn''t help but ask curiously, "Ellie, was that my brother?"
