Eleanor got into her car, her knuckles white from gripping the steering wheel. She started the engine and floored the elerator. The high-performance Bentley shot forward like an arrow, heading straight for the Goodwin & Co. headquarters.
She had only one thought in her mind: findn and get answers.
All the way there, Eleanor''s mind was in chaos. The project was meant to awaken people from deepas or vegetative states. So, the person they were trying to save wasn''t the former Vice President, asn had led her to believe, but very likely a severely injured, atose Mansfield. The terrible thought spun in her head.
The man who had shielded her from a knife without a moment''s hesitation, the man with the bright smile who carried the weight of his country on his shoulders... how could this have happened?
Arriving at Goodwin & Co. Tower, Eleanor drove her car right up to the main entrance. A security guard was about to approach and ask her to move, but then he recognized the boss''s ex-wife getting out of the car and stopped.
Besides, from the look on her face, it seemed she was here to have a serious talk with the big boss.
"Miss Sutton, your car-" the guard tried to say.
"Give me ten minutes. I''ll move it soon," Eleanor told the guard before striding into the lobby.
The receptionist quickly approached her. "Miss Sutton, are you here to see Mr. Goodwin? Do you have an appointment?"
"I have one. I''m going straight up to see him." Eleanor didn''t meet the receptionist''s eyes; her emotions had made her own eyes red.
The receptionists sensed the intensitying from Eleanor. Even if they wanted to stop her, they couldn''t. Besides, she was a shareholder of Goodwin & Co.; there was no reason to stop her.
One of the receptionists even stepped forward to swipe her inton''s private elevator.
In the elevator, Eleanor wiped a tear from the corner of her eye. The receptionist asked with concern, "Miss Sutton, are you alright?"
"I''m fine," Eleanor replied. The elevator doors opened. As she stepped out, Gavin, who was talking with a subordinate, saw her and came over immediately, surprised. "Miss Sutton, what are you doing here?"
"Gavin, where isn? Please take me to him," Eleanor said anxiously.
"Mr. Goodwin is in a meeting right now."
"Take me to him." Her eyes were red and her breathing was rapid. It was clear she was there for something urgent.
Gavin immediately gestured. "Alright. Mr. Goodwin is in Conference Room Three."
Before Gavin could lead the way, Eleanor was already jogging ahead. Gavin quickly sped up to catch her.
When Eleanor reached the conference room door, she took a deep breath and shoved the heavy double doors open.
A loud bang shattered the serious atmosphere in the room.
.n
At the massive circr conference table, the senior executives of Goodwin & Co. and several clients all stared in shock at the uninvited guest who had just burst in
The man at the head of the table frowned at the sound and looked up. When he saw the woman standing at the door-pale with red immed eyes staring at him-his annoyance was instantly reced by shock.
Seeing her expression, he knew why she was there.
n! Pleasee out. I need to ask you something," Eleanor said, suppressing her emotions.
Then he strode toward Eleanor, grabbed her wrist, and whispered, "This isn''t the ce to talk. Come with me."
Eleanor let him lead her by the wrist toward his office without struggling.
Oncen had led her into his office

and the door was closed, her
emotions finally broke. With a suppressed choked voice, she demanded, n, what happened to Mansfield? Is he in trouble? Tell me, what happened to him?"
