Chapter 1144

Faye bit her lip hard. She headed to a restroom topose herself. Just as she entered a stall, she heard colleagues from the officee in.

"Did you see the news about Yeaton Holdings? I heard the Yeatons are going bankrupt."

"There was so much bad press about the Yeatons back then. I''m surprised they even managed to go public."

"It''s more than just bankruptcy. The news said it might involve serious financial crimes. Someone could even go to jail."

"Faye won''t be able to hold on to her ''rich heiress'' title for much longer. Look how smug she used to be."

"She used to be such a high-and-mighty princess. Now... tsk. She''ll be lucky if she''s not saddled with debt."

In the stall, Faye struggled to control her emotions. These people used to envy and tter her, but now they were kicking her while she was down. She didn''t even have the courage to go out and confront them.

Once Faye was back in her car, she called Vanessa. Although she hated Vanessa for taking a stake in thepany, now that it was on the verge of bankruptcy, Vanessa''s shares were worthless paper. She still hoped Vanessa could save thepany.

"What is it?" Vanessa''s mocking voice came from the other end.

    "Let''s meet," Faye said.

Vanessa didn''t refuse. They agreed to meet at a café near Vanessa''s ce. Seeing Faye''s state, Vanessa got straight to the point. "Well? What do you want?"

"Can you please go beg Mr. Goodwin again? Ask him to save Dad''spany. After all, you own thirteen percent of the shares," Faye pleaded.

Vanessa sneered. "You only think of me when you need something. Faye, you''re too naive."

"Please. You and Mr. Goodwin are so close. Bailing out Yeaton Holdings is nothing for him," Faye pleaded, her eyes full of entreaty. Ian''s position in the business world was unshakable, and there was nopany he couldn''t save.

A sh of intense self-mockery crossed Vanessa''s eyes. If her blood was still useful, if she were still the only donor for Gina Quinn, then Jan would surely help the Yeatons Bat

now, she herself had been cast

    aside.

Besides, she didn''t dare tell the Yeatons that the bankruptcy of theirpany wasn''s doing.

"I can''t save it. From now on, I''m done with the Yeatons'' affairs." Vanessa picked up her bag, ready to leave.

Faye rushed over and grabbed her hand. "Sister, I was wrong! Please, just ask Mr. Goodwin! I''m begging you!"

Vanessa shook her off. "Faye, you''re the proper Yeaton heiress. I''m just an illegitimate daughter who can''t even show her face in public isn''t that what you and your mother""" always said? Now, what does the fate of the Yeatons have to do with me?"

Faye watched Vanessa storm off, her mind nk for a few seconds. Herst sliver of hope had been extinguished.

Vanessa was a dead end. Was she just going to stand by and watch the Yeatons fall?

    No!

A crazy idea formed in her mind—she would go begn herself. Even if there was only a one-in-ten-thousand chance, she had to try.

She headed straight for Goodwin & Co. headquarters. Standing there beneath the towering skyscraper, exhausted from days without sleep, Faye felt a sudden wave of

dizziness, and for a moment she feltpletely small and lost.

She took a deep breath, smoothed her dress, and walked to the reception desk.

"Hello, I''m here to see Mr. Ian Goodwin," Faye said directly.

The receptionist maintained a professional smile. "Do you have an appointment?"

"No, but I have something extremely important to discuss. Please, I must see him." Faye maintained her usual assertive demeanor.

"I''m sorry, but we can''t let you go up without an appointment." The receptionist''s tone was polite but firm and non-negotiable.
